The Switzerland County wrestling team traveled to Scottsburg for a two-day wrestling tournament on Friday and Saturday, December 4th and 5th.
The team started Friday with a 2-2 record; gaining their first win of the season over Crawford County 54-12; and then dropping a close match to Salem 36-30. The Pacers then took down Paoli by a score of 36-9; and finished the day with a loss to Scottsburg, 60-21.
Day two started with a loss to a tough Seymour team, 69-12; a close loss to Southwestern, 33-30; avenging an early season loss with a win over New Washington 36-30; and then dropping another close match to Jennings County 36-33.
The Pacers finished off the day with a loss to Eastern Pekin, 39-13.
The team finished 3-6 overall.

“We have emphasized the need to gain focus early and initiate our offense rather than waiting to defend against our opponent and this showed today,” Pacer head coach Kristopher Sandlin said. “Being more aggressive and bringing the intensity the whole time on the mat really helped us this weekend. We had a few guys out which could have pushed us to 6-3 on the weekend. We have the pieces of the puzzle there we have to continue to be patient. We are becoming more comfortable on the mat and using moves we know but still have work to do on fully mastering certain moves. The coaching staff likes the direction the program is headed and the culture this team is building.”
The team is back on action this Monday, December 14th, at South Dearborn.
