The Switzerland County High School cross country team traveled to Hardy Lake Tuesday evening to run in the Scottsburg Invitational.
Coach Kris Sandline said that a cool evening made for some fast times; and he also noted that three Pacer runners completed their first ever 5-k: Coby Manbeck (open run, 25:35, personal best); Mikailah Peterson (30:47, personal best); and Veronika Synakova (32:23, personal best).
The girls team came away with a ribbon spot in fourth place out of 15 teams represented. Leading the way for the girls was individual champion Leah Anders (20:38). The girls had a pack led by Aleiah Thomas (42nd, 25:39, personal best); Allison Detmer (43rd, 26:10, personal best); Bri Vinup (44th, 26:12, personal best); and Zoe Cole (26:22, returning from illness).
The boys team had two individuals in the race, with Garrett Demaree (20:15, season best) and Nathan Scudder (24:12).
“It was a very good meet for both teams as a whole,” Sandlin said. “We look forward to getting back to work and continuing to improve the rest of the year. The kids are bought in and we have a positive mindset.”
Switzerland County returns to action tonight (Thursday) at Southwestern for the Pre-Conference meet.
