Pacer soccer second in Rising Sun tourney

The Switzerland County Middle School soccer team finished second in dramatic fashion this past weekend in a tournament held at Rising Sun.

In the first round, the Pacers defeated Jac-Cen-Del by a score of 2-1 in a penalty kick shoot out.

The Pacers drew first blood in the first half of play when Bre Ricketts scored on an assisted cross from Lensi Parham. The Eagles found the back of the net in the second half to notch things up at 1-1, which is where the score remained at the end of regulation.

In the sudden death penalty kick, Chris Morris struck pay dirt on the Pacers’ first attempt, and that’s all the Pacers needed with Alex Curren in goal, as he blocked all five penalty shot attempts by the Eagles.

Once again the Pacers were led by the outstanding defense of Chris Morris, Mackenzie Anderson, Lauren Haskell, Nicole Leap, Josie Giglio, and Alex Curren.

The Pacers were soundly defeated by Madison Shawe in the championship game; but coach Tully Anderson said that to get to the title game was a great feat for his team.
