The Switzerland County Pacer boys varsity soccer team was in action Tuesday night against the Shawe Hilltoppers – and came up with a very impressive win, 3-2.
Shawe started the scoring midway into the first half. The Pacers evened the score within five minutes as Trenton Ricketts made a beautiful cross from the right side of the field to Anthony Dasis, who put the ball in the back of the net.
Not content going into halftime with a tie score, the Pacer team went back out on the field to begin the second half hungry for a goal. Trenton Ricketts put the Pacers up by one on a cross from Trey Taylor; but the Hilltoppers came back to score on a shot from 35 yards out to tie the score at 2-2.
Both teams continued to play good soccer with back and forth attacks.
The winning goal came late in the second half, as senior Caleb McClellan fired a rocket of a shot on goal that sent the Shawe goalie sprawling; and Josh Yeary capitalized on the rebound, sinking the ball in the back of the net to put the Pacers up by one, 3-2.
The Hilltoppers had another chance to even the score with a shot from 30 yards out, but Pacer keeper Garrett Schulz came up with a huge one handed diving save to preserve the win.
The Pacers will be in action again on Monday when they host Milan for a 5 p.m. start.
Make plans to come out and support the team.
