Pacer linksters close season with Sectional

The season of the Switzerland County boys varsity golf team came to a close on Monday afternoon with participation the Sectional match.

The event was held at Sunrise Golf Course in Madison, and the Pacers finished with a team total of 379.

Senior Clint Swanson saw an outstanding day come to a disappointing end, as he finished his 18-hole round with a score of 81, which tied him with Brett Kasteler of Rock Creek High School for the third slot to advance individually.

In Sectional play, the top three teams advance as well as the top three individuals who aren’t on an advancing team.

The tie meant that the two had to play in a sudden death playoff, and after an outstanding day, Clint Swanson couldn’t put things together and fell in the playoff, missing the final regional slot.

As a team, Switzerland County finished seventh in the 12-team field. Madison won the Sectional with a team score of 293 to defeat second place Jennings County by a whopping 25 strokes. Scottsburg also advanced as a team with a score of 331.

Rising Sun, coming off an outstanding year and a conference championship, saw its chance to advance come just short, as the Shiners finished fourth with a score of 335 – just four strokes back. Shiners Brady Murray and Bryce Murray did both advance as individuals, finishing with scores of 76.

Along with Clint Swanson’s 81 (43-38); individual Switzerland County scores included: Dustin Tice 97 (49-48); Logan Todd 98 (49-49); Mikhail Cole 103 (55-48); and Drew Hewitt 131 (58-73).
