The Switzerland County High School golf team started its season last week with two away meets.
Last Tuesday night we traveled to Hoosier Links in Milan for the South Ripley Invitational. It was a 5 way meet. The course was very wet and that made conditions rough for all players. The Pacers took second place in the meet, only losing by seven strokes. Nick Braun tied for second place as an individual. The team scores and our individual scores are as follows:
Rising Sun won the meet with a team score of 191; followed by Switzerland County with a score of 198. Milan was third with a score of 211; and Jac-Cen-Del finished fourth with a score of 237. South Ripley had three players participate, so the Raiders did not have enough golfers to record a team score.
Individually for the Pacers, Nick Braun had a 45; Hunter Hayes finished with a 47; Josh Tice shot a 51; Nate Braun had a 55; and Garrett Demaree also had a score of 55.
Last Thursday night Switzerland County played at The Links at Rising Star in a three-way meet against Rising Star and Jac-Cen-Del. Again Switzerland County finished second behind Rising Sun.
“We were excited to already cut some strokes off of our team score from Tuesday,” Coach Natalie Wheeler said. “Nate Braun was the low man for our team with a 44. Hunter Hayes had a 47. Brent Turner, from Rising Sun, was medalist for the meet with a 38.”
Team scores saw Rising Sun with a total of 164; Switzerland Count finished with a 193; and Jac-Cen-Del recorded a 205.
Along with Nate Braun and Hayes; Tice shot a 50; Demaree had a 52; and Nick Braun finished with a 53.
Switzerland County’s next meet will be on Wednesday, April 24th, when they will again play at Rising Star.
