Pacer football ready for Sectional play

Coach Ryan Jesop’s Switzerland County Pacer varsity football team will hit the road tomorrow (Friday) night as it enters Sectional play this year.

The Pacers will open play in Class 2A Sectional #39 tomorrow (Friday) at Indianapolis Scecina.

The game will be played at Scecina High School in Indianapolis, and kick off will be at 7 p.m.

The Crusaders are currently ranked #1 in the state in Class 2A, and are #36 overall — so the Pacers will have their work cut out for them.

After last Friday night’s regular season finale loss at Milan still to play, the Pacers enter the Sectional with an overall record of 4-5.

The Pacers are ranked #53 in Class 2A and #296 in Indiana; and Switzerland County has scored 157 points this season (17.4) and has given up 197 points (21.8).

Switzerland County’s offense runs through senior quarterback Matt Davis, who leads the team in rushing at 108 yards per game; and he’s scored four total touchdowns and thrown for two more.

Tyler Hoskins leads the receiving corps with an average of 32.7 yards per game and also has four touchdowns; while Gavin Reese is key in the ground game with an average of 55 yards per contest and has a touchdown.

Keaton Mosley and Gabe Rose lead the defense, with each averaging seven tackles per game.

Scecina sports an overall record of 8-1 and are ranked #36 in Indiana.

The Crusaders have scored a total of 310 points in its eight games (34.4 points per game); while allowing just 88 points to its opponents (9.8 points per game).

Scecina is led by senior Mason Beriault, who plays wide receiver on offense, where he averages 65 yards per game; and plays strong safety on defense, where he leads the team with 10 1/2 tackles per game and had registered two interceptions.

Brandon Fitts-Ramsey leads the Crusaders rushing attack, averaging just over 86 yards per game. He has scored 10 touchdowns this season.

Junior quarterback David Mendez has scored seven touchdowns this season, and also has 11 passing touchdowns.

The winner of the Switzerland County-Indianapolis Scecina game will then move on to play the winner of the Clarksville (4-5) versus Eastern Pekin (1-8) game on Friday, October 28th.

The top half of the Sectional #39 bracket sees Triton Central (7-2) at Christel House at Manual (3-5); and Brownstown Central (5-4) at Brown County (0-9).
