Pacer boys win one,

fall in soccer semis

The Switzerland County boys varsity soccer team participated in its Sectional tournament last week at Jac-Cen-Del — winning its opening game before falling in the semifinals.

  • In the first contest, Switzerland County defeated South Ripley by a 2-1 count behind the outstanding play in goal by freshman Aiden Furnish.

After a scoreless first half, the Pacers got on the board first when Zach Nead scored with 15:25 to play in the contest.

The second Switzerland County goal came just moments later, as Ben Hicks scored with 14:09 left to push the lead to 2-0.

South Ripley dented the scoreboard with 3:39 left to play on a penalty kick, but Furnish fended off the Raider offense the rest of the way, leading to the 2-1 victory.

  • In the semifinal, Switzerland County faced Southwestern, and fell by a final score of 3-1.

The lone Pacer goal in the semifinal came from Hicks, who scored with 15:47 to play — but it wasn’t enough as the Switzerland County season came to a close.
