Pacer baseball team continues outstanding year

The Switzerland County High School baseball team is continuing to have an outstanding season.

– Last Monday, April 25th, the Pacers defeated conference rival Southwestern by a final score of 12-2.

Zach Whitaker was outstanding on the mound, going 6 1/3-innings, striking out seven and allowing seven hits and two earned runs. Austin South finished up on the mound, gaining a strikeout.

Offensively, Casper Stow was 2-for-3 with three RBI, and he also scored two runs. Matt Roland was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring a run and knocking in two more; and Dalton Roark was 1-for-5 with a pair of RBI. Whitaker also collected a hit and an RBI.

Kollin Hayes had two hits including a double, and he also scored a run; while Tyler Konkle was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Caleb Furnish had a hit and scored two runs; while Justin Johnson scored two runs; and Kenyon Bledsoe, Kyle Whitham, and Trystan Kielbasa each scored a run.

– On Thursday, April 28th, the Pacers fell to Rising Sun by a final score of 9-6.

Hayes led the offense against the Shiners, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored; while Konkle was 2-for-3 at the plate. Johnson was 1-for-2 with two runs scored; and Stow was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Whitaker also scored a run in the contest; and Furnish added a hit and an RBI.

Roland suffered the loss on the hill, going 3 1/3-innings allowing six earned runs and hit hits while striking out just one. South pitched the final 3 2/3-innings striking out four and allowing two hits and just one earned run.

– On Monday the Pacers returned to action against the Shawe Hilltoppers, and got back on the winning path with an 11-1 victory, which last just five innings due to the 10-run Mercy Rule.

Whitaker again was stellar on the mound, going the distance and striking out seven while allowing three hits and one earned run.

He also had a big night at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI; and Roland was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI. Konkle was also 1-for-2 with a run scored and two knocked in.

Stow was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored; Furnish was 2-for-3 with three runs scored; Hayes was 1-for-3 with a run scored; and Johnson was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Roark scored two runs; and Whitham and Justin Chatham also scored a run each.

– The junior varsity team also played Shawe on Monday night, winning by a score of 6-4.

Kaleb Harrell was 1-for-1 with two RBI; Coby Blanton was 1-for-2 with an RBI; and Konkle was 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

South was 2-for-3 with two runs scored; Cade Rider was 1-for-3 with a run scored; Chatham had a hit in one official plate appearance; and Whitham scored a run.

Chatham started on the mound and went 2 1/3-innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out four. He allowed just three hits. Whitham earned the win in relief, going 2 2/3-innings and striking out four while allowing no hit and no earned runs.
