Pacer baseball draws Austin in Sectional

Coach Chad Combs at the Switzerland County Pacer varsity baseball team is not only preparing to enter Sectional play – they are also preparing to host the event.

The Indiana High School Athletic Association has released its pairings for the upcoming Sectional tournaments, which will be played beginning on Wednesday, May 25th and run through Monday, May 30th.

Switzerland County will host Sectional #45 in Class 2A, and the games will kick off on Wednesday, May 25th, when North Decatur plays South Ripley in the first game at 5 p.m. The second game, which is tentatively set to start at 7 p.m., will pit the host Pacers against Austin.

The second round will be played on Thursday, May 26th, when the winner of the North Decatur/South Ripley game versus the winner of the Switzerland County/Austin game, and that will see its first pitch at 5 p.m. The second game on Thursday will see Milan take on Southwestern, with an expected start time of 7 p.m.

The two winners from the Thursday games will then battle for the Sectional title, and that game will be held here on Monday, May 30th, and will begin at 6 p.m.

The winner of the Switzerland County Sectional will then move on to Regional #12, which will be held at Providence High School near New Albany. The Switzerland County winner will play the Clarksville Sectional winner in the first game on Saturday, June 4th; followed by the Speedway Sectional winner playing the North Putnam Sectional winner. The championship game will then be played later that evening.

From there, the Regional winner will move on to the Semistate, which will be held at either Jasper or Plainfield on Saturday, June 11th; with the State Championship games being played at Victory Field in Indianapolis on Friday and Saturday, June 17th-18th.
