Rita E. Johnson
Rita E. (Scudder) Johnson, 62, of Florence, passed away Friday, September 19th, at The Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison.
She was born February 3rd, 1946, on Beatty Ridge, in Switzerland County, the daughter of Gerald Raymond and Mary Frances (McNeely) Scudder, who both preceded her in death. She had resided in Switzerland County most of her life.
She was united in marriage on September 23rd, 1995, in Vevay, by Reverend Ronald Sandidge to Michael A. Johnson, who survives.
She was employed as an electrician for 22 years with the IBW of Electrical Workers Local #369 in Louisville, Kentucky, retiring in 2001. She loved to travel after her retirement and enjoyed working in her flowers and gardening. She will be remembered for her love of birds, her dogs and her days of playing softball.
Other survivors include her daughter, Rene Perry of Hanover; her son, Damon Callis and wife Angie of Vevay; her grandchildren, Gage, Cara and Mandy; her great-granddaughter, Kate; her sisters, Geraldine Bladen of Madison, Karen Griffin of Madison and Vanessa Reagan of Milton, Kentucky; her brothers, Raymond L. Scudder, Maurice M. Scudder and Barry T. Scudder, all of Florence; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Timothy Madison on July 4th, 1987; her brothers, Dennis Wayne Scudder on July 29th, 1970 and Mark A. Scudder on November 13th, 1995; and her nephew, Daniel A. Bladen on October 27th, 1994.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, September 24th, by Reverend Ronald Sandidge at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery. Don Monroe
Don Roy Monroe, 78, of Hartford Pike, near Dillsboro, passed away Friday, September 19th, in a tractor accident at his home.
He was born July 28th, 1930, in Lawrenceburg, the son of John Roy and Alta (Smiley) Monroe. He attended grade school at Cass Union and was a graduate of Rising Sun High School Class of 1948 where he served as class president. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, rising to the rank of Private First Class. He was a farmer and self-employed livestock hauler. He also worked at the Sunman Canning factory and Aurora Casket Company. He was past president of the board of S & O Insurance Company and was a former director of Farm Bureau. He enjoyed tractor pulling and pony pulling. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ.
On July 19th, 1952, he married Helen Thies, who survives.
Other survivors include his sons, David Monroe, Daniel Monroe and wife Vickie and Mark Monroe, all of Ohio County; his grandchildren, Matthew, Stephanie, Melissa, Douglas, Andrew, Amy and Chrissy Monoe and Mindy Smith; and his great-grandson, Brennan Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter-in-law, Cindy Monroe.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, September 22nd, by Brother Don Campbell at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Burial was in Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cass Union Scholarship, Ohio County Rescue Unit or Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ.
