Bill Poling
William W. “Bill” Poling, 81, of Madison, passed away Monday, September 12th, 2011, at 3:01 p.m. at the Robley Rex Veterans Medical Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
He was born on March 17th, 1930 in Cross Plains, the son of the late Roy Francis and Naomi A. Bliton Poling. He was raised near Cross Plains and attended Central High School, receiving his GED in the United States Navy. Bill was inducted into the United States Army on July 3, 1946 during World War II and was honorably discharged on March 20th, 1947. He was inducted into the United States Navy on June 30th, 1947, in Indianapolis. He rose to the rank of Aviation Maintenance Third Class serving on the US Boxer and the US Bairoko, he was honorably discharged on July 2nd, 1951, in Memphis, Tennessee, receiving the China Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He reenlisted on July 3rd, 1951, and rose to the rank of Aviation Mechanic Electrician Second Class serving the Air Transport Squadron Seven. He was honorably discharged on July 16th, 1956, in Memphis, Tennessee, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He reenlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 17th, 1956, and rose to the rank of Aviation Maintenance Electrician First Class during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on May 28th, 1962, from the Fighter Squadron 142 at the NAS Miramar, California, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He reenlisted on May 29th, 1962, during the Vietnam War serving the U.S. Naval Station at Treasure Island, San Francisco. He retired and was honorably discharged on November 10th, 1966, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, fifth award, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal.
He resided in Lakeland, Florida for eight years and attended the Carpenters Home Church in Lakeland, Florida. He returned to the Madison community and was a member of the Hanover Baptist Church. He worked after his military career as a farmer, welder and truck driver and had operated the Gulf Service Station on Clifty Drive in Madison. His truck driving career had been with Grote Industries and Robus Leather for over 20 years. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, woodworker, furniture maker, building and remodeling homes, raising flowers, and listening to music. He was a devoted husband, dad and grandpa. He enjoyed the Poling Family Breakfast at the Canaan Restaurant and all of the family get togethers and playing euchre.
He was first united in marriage to Rosemary Combs and this union was blessed with one son, Ronnie Lee. Bill was united in marriage on April 16th, 1957, in Odessa, Mississippi to Opal Marilyn “Kitty” Burch. This union was blessed with four daughters.
Survivors include his wife Opal Marilyn “Kitty” Burch Poling of Madison; his daughters, Cathy Daugherty and husband Doug of Madison, Carolyn Crum and husband Richard of Louisville and Sheila Thompson of Madison; his son, Ronnie Lee Poling and wife Helen of Michigan City, Indiana; his brothers, Joe Poling and wife, Debby of Nabb, Indiana, Jim Poling and wife, Carol Jean of Canaan, Max Poling and wife Joyce of Canaan and Doug Poling of Jeffersonville; his sister, Kay Smith of Bennington; his sisters-in-law, Carolyn Poling of Butlerville, Gladys Pipes of Summerville, Tennessee, Vera Gum of Orlando, Florida, Glenda and Bob Dempsey of Orlando, Florida and Becky and Joe Gerber of Lemon Grove, California; his brothers-in-law, Jack Baugh of Versailles and David Burch of Jackson, Florida; his grandchildren, Stacey and husband Chris, Allison and husband Keith, Amanda and husband Tyler, Chenoweth and wife Melynda, Sam and Jarrod; his great- grandchildren, McKenna, Waylen, Lennon, Claire, Keeton, Jack, Logan and Alexander; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Francis Poling on January 11th, 1974; his mother, Naomi A. Bliton Poling on August 10th, 1986; his daughter, Joy Lynn Poling on January 26th, 2005; his sisters, Nyla Jean Harlow in 1982, Audrey Baugh on April 16th, 2005, Verna Mae Schwagmeier on December 13th, 2010, and an infant sister on November 26th, 1946; his brothers, Darrell Richard “Dick” Poling on May 16th, 2006 and Donald Poling in 1946, his sister-in-law, Donna Adams.
Funeral services will be conducted today (Thursday, September 15th) at 2 p.m., by Reverend J.D. Traylor at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Cemetery with full military honors conducted at the graveside by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion and the U.S. Naval Ceremonial Unit. Leo Lock
Leonard Wayne “Leo” Lock, 62, of Madison, formerly of Vevay, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Friday, September 9th, 2011, at Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover.
He was born June 4th, 1949, in Jefferson County, the son of the late Leonard and Nona Virginia (Darbro) Lock. He was raised in Switzerland County and was a 1967 graduate of Vevay High School. He attended Bacone College in Oklahoma to study music and later received his business degree from Ottawa University.
He was united in marriage to Jennifer Forbes in 1974.
He was a member of Fredonia Baptist Church on Tapps Ridge in Switzerland County. He had worked as a bartender and entertainer at the Ogle Haus Inn in Vevay for several years. He later worked at the Key West Shrimp House in Madison and for Belterra Casino and Resort. He had resided in Brandon, Florida and worked as the manager at McDonald’s in Brandon for eight years. He had enjoyed visiting Madison and Switzerland County, staying in touch with friends and family. He recently moved to Madison on July 22nd to be near his family due to ill health. He enjoyed playing the piano and listening to music and was an avid collector.
Survivors include his sister, Darlene Kay Smith and her husband Jerry of Madison; his brother, Terry Lee Lock of Vevay; his nephews, Keith Smith, Kevin Smith and wife Valerie, Joshua Lock and wife Juanita, and Jacob Lock; his nieces, Terina Herald, Sondra Rush and husband Chris, Lisa Wilks and husband Anthony; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Trisha, Sam, Ben, Keith, Caleb, Olivia, Megan, Taylor, Bentley, Bradley, Drew, Landon and Carter; his uncle and aunt, John Lock and wife Nina of Vevay; his great-aunt, Flossie Lock of Columbus; several cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William and Floy Tapp Darbro; and his paternal grandparents, Tad and Ethel Lock.

Geneva Romans
Geneva Cynthia (Minks) Romans, 88, of Rising Sun, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, September 7th, 2011, at Shady Nook Care Center in Lawrenceburg.
She was born March 1st, 1923, in Ohio County, the daughter of John Wesley and Elizabeth May (Blue) Minks, who both preceded her in death. She was raised in Ohio County where she attended school.
She was united in marriage on March 10th, 1939, in Greendale, Indiana, to Stanley Nelson Romans. Unto this union two sons arrived to bless their home. They enjoyed over 64 years of marriage together until his death on March 24th, 2003.
She was employed in Social Services for the Division of Family and Children in Ohio and Switzerland counties, retiring in 1986, after 21 years of service. She was a member of Rising Sun Church of Christ and attended Holmes Hill Church of Christ near Rising Sun. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She will be remembered for her love of visiting and socializing with friends and family.
Survivors include her sons, Leon Nelson Romans and wife Patty of Aurora and Douglas Lynn Romans and wife Donna of Aurora; her grandchildren, Debbie Romans, Greg Romans and wife Lisa, Brian Romans and wife Mary, Shelly Plyman and husband Kevin, Jamey Romans and wife Christina, Kelley Hanshe and husband Gary, Hayes and Mary Banschbach, Joshua Banschbach, Endea Sizemore and husband Gary, and Sara Bedel and husband Rick; her great-grandchildren, Curtis, Rachel, Morgan, Brett Michael, Kelsey, Casey, Cassidy, Sofie and Shelby Romans; Olivia Sizemore, Taylor and Austin Bedel, Emily and Garrett Hansche; and Mallery Banschbach; one cousin; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Lola Iva Lee Minks; her brother, Harry Harland Minks; her grandson, Adam Banschbach; her daughter-in-law, Diane Sue Romans; and her cousin, Wendell Minks.
Funeral services were conducted by Brothers Tommy Johnson and Don Thomason Saturday, September 10th, at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Rising Sun New Cemetery. Patricia Bevis
Patricia Ann Bevis, 66, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Rising Sun, passed away Thursday, September 8th, at Mt. Washington Care Center in Cincinnati.
She was born in Lawrenceburg, on March 17th, 1945, the daughter of the late Margaret (Kinnett) Mathews and Clarence Clark. She attended Rising Sun High School. She worked in the linen department of Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati and was also a homemaker. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
She was the widow of the late Robert Lee Bevis, Sr., who died in 1988.
Survivors include her daughter, Teresa C. Lowe of Cincinnati; her sons, Robert L. Bevis, Jr., (Stephanie) of Cincinnati, Irvin W. Bevis, III of Evansville, David E. Bevis (Alice) of Burlington, Kentucky and Jeffery A. Bevis (Pamela) of Cincinnati; six brothers; two sisters; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services were conducted by Reverend Chris Robinson Tuesday, September 13th, at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Interment was in Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation (for rheumatoid research).
Jimmie Godsey
Jimmie Roger Godsey, 76, of Bennington, passed away at 8:23 p.m. Wednesday, September 7th, 2011, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.
He was born January 29th, 1935, in Hazard, Kentucky, the son of Sherman and Laura (Barnett) Godsey, who both preceded him in death. He was raised in Hazard where he attended school. He was inducted into the U.S. Air Force in 1952, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant, serving during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from the Air Force in 1993 after 40 years of service. He had resided on the family farm near Bennington since 1977, where he enjoyed tinkering on t he farm.
He was united in marriage on February 2nd, 1957, in Newport, Kentucky, to Alma D. Leach. Unto this union three sons and a daughter arrived to bless their home.
He was a former employee of the Mason Coleman Bell Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, for several years. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. He will be remembered for his love of trains and his collection of model trains.
Survivors include his sons, Edward G. Godsey of Bennington, Steven R. Godsey of Cincinnati, Ohio, and George A. Godsey of Norwood, Ohio; his daughter, Elana Lynn Godsey of Norwood, Ohio; his grandchildren, Griffin, Clea, Stephanie and Whitney; his great-grandchildren, Armando, Alexis and Noah; his sisters, Blanch Gillis of Cross Plains, Jesse Haney of Vevay, Betty Young of Vevay, Hazel Chilton of Louisville, Kentucky, Jan Schwallie of Cincinnati, and Mary Kroft of Morning View, Kentucky; his brothers, Sherman B. Godsey of Moorefield and Bill Godsey of Columbus; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Reda Bush, Jean Godsey and Marie Shoemaker.
Funeral services were conducted by Reverend Ron Lee Monday, September 12th, at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Interment will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison with military rites conducted by the Honor Guard at the graveside by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion. Jessica King
Jessica Dawn (Voris) King, 21, of Worthville, Kentucky, formerly of Vevay, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, September 7th, 2011, at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, Kentucky.
She was born January 2nd, 1990, in Corbin, Indiana, the daughter of Peggy Kay (Voris) White. She was raised in Switzerland County and was a 2009 graduate of Switzerland County High School, where she participated in the flag corps, band and French club.
She was united in marriage on July 8th, 2011, in Carrollton, to Donnie Lee King, Jr.
She was currently enrolled in First Steps Certified Nursing Program in Louisville, Kentucky. She was employed as a CNA at Swiss Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Vevay for two years. She was a former employee of Belterra Casino & Resort for three years and was formerly employed at Dorman’s in Warsaw, Kentucky. She was baptized at the Versailles Church of Christ and attended the Florence Church of Christ. She will be remembered for her love of arts, crafts, quilting, needlepoint, and most of all, her animals.
Survivors include her husband, Donnie Lee King, Jr., of Worthville; her mother, Peggy White of Worthville; her brother, Mike White of Versailles; her grandparents, Terry Voris and wife Beverly of Madison and Ron Lewis of Vevay; her uncle, Bill Lewis of Vevay; her father-in-law and stepmother-in-law, Donnie King, Sr., and wife Lillian of Warsaw; her sisters-in-law, Laura Willhoite of Warsaw, Kentucky, Donna King of Warsaw, Annette Robinson of Louisville, and April Robinson of Henry County, Kentucky; her brothers-in-law, Marty King of Louisville, Billy King and Steven Robinson, both of Glencoe, Kentucky; several great-uncles, great-aunts and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Betty Lewis and Evelyn Pickett.

Victor McPeek
Victor McPeek, 56, of Aurora, passed away Thursday, September 8th, 2011, in Aurora.
He was born Sunday, August 21st, 1955, in Middletown, Ohio, the son of Erma Jean Crider Schuman and the late Ronald Lee McPeek.
Victor was the third generation Owner/Operator of Crider Moving & Storage, the family business owned since 1926. He took over the family business from his Uncle Keith Crider in 1994. Prior to that he worked for 22 years at AEP in Lawrenceburg. He enjoyed restoring old classic cars and loved his Corvette. He loved music and had a vast music collection. He always enjoyed talking with people and never missed an opportunity to share a good story or joke. His first love was Emma and his family.
Surviving are his wife, Emma (VanTyle) McPeek of Aurora; his daughter, Carrie (Jon) Harris of Louisville, Kentucky; his son, Jared McPeek of Aurora; his mother, Erma Jean Crider Schuman of Cincinnati, Ohio; his sister, Valerie McPeek of Amelia, Ohio; his brother, Troy (Carolyn) Helmers of Cincinnati, Ohio; several aunts, uncles, nephews, one niece and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home in Aurora, Thursday, September 15th, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Aurora.

Betty Dickerson
Betty June (Hampton) Dickerson, 74, of near Moorefield, passed away at 12:31 p.m. Monday, September 12th, 2011, at her home.
She was born January 29th, 1937, in Trosper, Kentucky, the daughter of Ernest and Edna (Lewellyn) Hampton, who both preceded her in death. She was a 1956 graduate of Rising Sun High School.
She was united in marriage on September 24th, 1961, in Kentucky, to James T. Dickerson. They enjoyed 26 years of marriage together until his death on December 22nd, 1987.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her family and was a member of the Plum Creek Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her love of visiting with friends, family and shopping.
Survivors include her daughter, Oneva Beach and husband Gary of near Moorefield; her grandchildren, Kevin Beach and fiancee Cindy of Carrollton, Kentucky and Nicholas Beach and wife Norma of Bennington; her great-grandchildren, Christopher, Blaine and Danielle; her sister, Joyce Klusman Swinney of Versailles; her nephew, Mark Dale Klusman; her stepmother, Ruby Hampton of Richmond, Indiana.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Danny Dickerson; and her brother, Charles Glenn Hampton.
