Arthur Green

Arthur “Buddy” Green, 86, of Vevay, passed away Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011, in Madison.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. A full obituary will be printed in next week’s edition of this newspaper.

Naomi Pettit

Naomi Blanche (Brown) Pettit, 74, of Vevay, passed away at 10:05 a.m. Sunday, August 21st, 2011, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

She entered this life as a premature birth on December 19th, 1936, at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, the daughter of John Stanley and Ruth Helen (Haggerman) Brown, who both preceded her in death. She was raised on Red Hog Pike near East Enterprise and was a 1954 graduate of Vevay High School. Her family moved to Vevay in 1968.

She was united in marriage on February 12th, 1978, at the Switzerland Baptist Church to Alford Grant Pettit.

She was employed as a secretary for Bakes Insurance and later for Cole-Bakes Insurance in Vevay, retiring in 1998, after 38 years of service. She was one of the first volunteer EMT’s for the Switzerland County Emergency Unit in Vevay. She was a member of TOPS and the Vevay Homemakers Club. She was raised in the New Liberty Baptist Church and later was a faithful member of the Switzerland Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her love of gardening, cooking, crocheting and her kitty cats.

Survivors include her husband, Alford G. Pettit of Vevay; her foster daughter, Martha Guffy of Cincinnati, Ohio; her cousins, Juanita Richards of Vevay and Gordon Brown of St. Louis, Missouri.

Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Lenny Thorpe at 10 a.m. today (Thursday, August 25th) at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in New Liberty Cemetery near East Enterprise. Memorial contributions may be made to Switzerland County EMS. Cindy Bladen

Cynthia Druann “Cindy” (Sprague) Bladen, 66, of Vevay, passed away at 11:57 a.m. Saturday, August 20th, 2011, at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg.

She was born July 24th, 1945, in LaPorte, Indiana, the daughter of Peter Elzia and Marjorie (McIntosh) Sprague, who both preceded her in death. She was raised in Kingsford Heights, Indiana, and was a 1963 graduate of the Union Township High School in LaPorte. She had resided in Vevay the past six years and had resided in Buckhorn, Kentucky, for several years.

She was united in marriage on April 14th, 2006, in Buckhorn, to James V. “Jim” Bladen. They enjoyed the past five years of marriage together.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing, gardening, sewing, crocheting, puzzles and working in her flowers. She was a member of the Buckhorn Lake Area Church, Vevay America Legion Post 185 Ladies Auxiliary and Vevay VFW Post 5396 Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, James V. “Jim” Bladen of Vevay; her sons, Ty Smith and Bret Smith, both of Mill Creek, and Peter Smith and wife Sandra of LaPorte; her grandchildren, Nichole, Joshua, Amber, Hailey, Dustin, Danyel and DeAnna; her great-granddaughter, Alayna Gakle; her brother, Earl Beagley of Bainbridge, Georgia; her sister, Maude Portinga of Bainbridge; her niece, Becky Pharr; and her nephew, Richard Harris.

She was also preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Jada Woodruff.

Funeral services were conducted Tueday, August 23rd, by Reverend Ronald Sandidge at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery. Katie Alonso-Peralta

Katie Mae (McFarland) Alonso-Peralta, 30, of Palmyra, Indiana, formerly of Vevay, passed away at 2 a.m. Monday, August 22nd, 2011, in Palmyra.

She was born October 9th, 1980, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the daughter of Robert Wayne McFarland and Cindy Ann Blackburn. She was raised in Switzerland County and was a graduate of Switzerland County High School. She was a devoted mother and homemaker to her family. She was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church and attended Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church in Vevay. She had resided in Palmyra since May, 2009. She will be remembered for her love of music and her animals, especially her dogs.

Survivors include her sons, Alexandro Martinez of Madison, Antonio Martinez, Adalaido Alonso-Peralta, and Woodrow McFarland, all of Palmyra; her father, Robert Wayne McFarland of Palmyra; her sisters, Regina McFarland of Campbellsburg, Indiana and Vanda McFarland of Bennington; her grandmother, Ruby Blackburn of Greenwood, Indiana; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Cindy Ann Blackburn on March 3rd, 2000; her brother, Joshua Bleu McFarland; and her grandparents, Woodrow Blackburn, Harvey McFarland and Beulah (Webster) McFarland Alexander.

A memorial service will be conducted by Reverend Tammy Moore at 1 p.m. Friday, August 26th, at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Chris McAlister

Christopher Lynn “Chris” McAlister, 37, of Vevay, passed away Sunday, March 14th, 2010, in the Ohio River, at Ludlow, Kentucky, while working as a deckhand for Aquarius Marina in Ludlow.

He was born July 5th, 1972, in Madison, the son of Charles Edward and Debra Lee (McAlister) Hite. He was raised in Switzerland County and was a graduate of Switzerland County High School.

He was united in marriage on August 5th, 1988, in Aberdeen, to Tammie Mae McKinley. Unto this union a son arrived to bless their home.

He was employed as a deckhand for Aquarius Marina in Ludlow for several years. It was while working as a deckhand that he lost his life, while helping to save the lives of others. He will be remembered for his love of golfing and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Tammie (McKinley) McAlister of Vevay; his son, Christopher Lynn “C.J.” McAlister, Jr., of Vevay; his grandson, Noah McAlister of Vevay; his mother, Debra Hite of Vevay; his brothers, Jamie Hite and Josh Hite, both of Vevay; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Edward Hite; his brother, Charles David “Charlie” Hite on July 15th, 2001; his grandparents, Chester and Mavis (Reed) McAlister, and James Earl and Catherine Lee (Dixon) Hite; and his nephew, Daulton O’Daniel Hite.

Graveside services will be conducted by Reverend Mike Jones at 5 p.m. today (Thursday, August 25th) with burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery on State Road 56 near Aberdeen. Junior McCarty

Junior Elisha McCarty, 74, of Vevay, passed away at 1:16 a.m. Monday, August 22nd, 2011, at Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.

He was born November 3rd, 1936, in Magoffin County, Kentucky, the son of Marcus and Effie Margaret (Burton) McCarty, who both preceded him in death. He was raised in Magoffin County and Madison and had resided in Vevay since 1960.

He was united in marriage on April 16th, 1960, in Switzerland County, to Louella LaVerne Peters. Unto this union a son and three daughters arrived to bless their home.

He was employed as a grinder for Williamson Heating in Madison, retiring in 1998, after 36 years of service. He was also a former employee of the old glue factory in Madison for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Louella LaVerne (Peters) McCarty of Vevay; his son, Mike McCarty and wife Connie of Vevay; his daughters, Pamela Johnson and husband Kenny of Vevay, Christy Watterson and husband Donnie of Hanover, and Cathy Wells of Austin; his grandchildren, Megan, Bethany, Jessica, Blake, Joey and Jean Ann; his brothers, Luke McCarty of Milton, Kentucky, Jerry McCarty of Madison and Roland McCarty of Madison; his sisters, Loretha Baker of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Wanda Banks of Bedford, Kentucky, Verna Walters of Elktory, Maryland, Athalene Stewart of Madison and Rita Wise of Madison; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mozella McCarty; and his brothers, Glen, Thurman, Delmer, Kenneth and Abner G. McCarty.

Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Ron Lee at 2 p.m. today (Thursday, August 25th) at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery.
