Leah Buchanan

Leah (Snyder) Buchanan, 94, of Vevay, passed away Friday, August 17th, at her home.
She was born May 29th, 1913, the daughter of Phillip N. and Roxie A. (Bowie) Snyder, who both preceded her in death. She was a 1931 graduate of Rising Sun High School.
She was united in marriage to Howard R. Buchanan October 29th, 1941, in Dupont, Indiana.
She was employed for several years at the Rising Sun State Bank in Rising Sun. She retired from the Vevay Deposit Bani in Vevay after many years of service. She was an honorary member of the active chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority. She was also a member of Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet L. Buchanan of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard R. Buchanan; her sisters, Elaine McMakin and Juanita Tibbets; and her brothers, Marvin and Myron Snyder.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, August 20th, by Reverend Ronald Sandidge at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery. Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority conducted services Sunday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Buchanan Family Memorial Scholarship Fund. Walter LaVelle

Walter Louis “Buster” LaVelle, 77, of Rising Sun, passed away Wednesday, August 15th, at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg.
He was born February 17th, 1930, in Patriot, the son of James Howard and Lily B. (White) LaVelle, who both preceded him in death. He was raised in Switzerland County and was a 1949 graduate of Patriot High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged August 31st, 1959.
He was united in marriage May 7th, 1949, in Vevay, to Lauretta Mae Peters. Unto this union three daughters and a son arrived to bless their home.
He retired as a molder for Plastic Moldings in East Enterprise, from 1987-1997. After retirement he was employed at Wal-Mart in Aurora. Early in life he was employed as a bus driver for Patriot High School and was a truck driver for Switzerland County Highway Department and the Indiana Department of Transportation. He was also employed for several years at Hilltop Basic Resources in Patriot.
He was always a farmer at heart and enjoyed farming in the Patriot community for many years. He enjoyed reading, the Cincinnati Reds, traveling to the Smoky Mountains, but most of all he enjoyed watching his grandchildren particiapte in their many sporting events. He was a member aof the Rising Sun American Legion Post 59 and Rising Sun Church of Christ.
Survivors include hiswife, Lauretta LaVelle of Rising Sun; his daughters, Diana White and husband Wayne of Vevay, Donna White and husband Ed of Rising Sun, and Linda Thomas and husband Mike of Vevay; his son, Gary LaVelle and wife Pat of Rising Sun; his grandchildren, Rhonda, Angie, Sean, Shane, Sallie, Brandon and Jeremiah; his step-grandchildren, Kerry, Bridgette, Holly and Rachael; his great-grandchildren, Byran, Justin, Matthew, Kassandra, R.J., Sebastian, Tazman, Kaysie and Baileigh; his brother, Vernon “Sonny” LaVelle of Patriot; his nieces, Anita LaVelle and Patty Walton; and his nephew, Kenny LaVelle.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, August 18th, by Brother Greg Matthews at Rising Sun Church of Christ. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery with miilitary rites conducted at the graveside by the honor guard of Rising Sun American Legion Post 59. Amanda McGuire

Amanda Joanne “Mandy” McGuire, 23, of near Vevay, and her unborn infant son, Logan Joseph McGuire, passed away Friday, August 17th, after being struck by a vehicle on U.S. 50 in Aurora.
She was born July 31st, 1984, in Gulfport, Mississippi, the daughter of Roy C. and Heidi (Goff) McGuire.
Survivors include her son, Kyle-Nicholas Walls of Vevay; her parents, Roy C. and Heidi (Goff) McGuire of Vevay; her sister, Shane-Leisa McGuire of Vevay; her brother, Elijah Jakob McGuire of Vevay; her paternal grandfather, James McGuire of Pass Christian, Mississippi; her maternal grandparents, Ron and Charlene Goff of Vevay; several uncles, aunts and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Nichole D. McGuire; and her paternal grandmother, Winona McGuire.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, August 22nd, by Reverend Howard Wade at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Union Cemetery in Moores Hill. Dorothy Wiggins

Dorothy (Scott) Wiggins, 77, of Eljay, Georgia, formerly of Switzerland County, passed away Wednesday, August 8th, at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia, following a one-month illness from cancer.
She was born November 7th, 1930, in Florence, Indiana, the daughter of William and Mildred Scott, who both preceded her in death. She was a retired business owner and had resided in Eljay more than 20 years. She was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church in Switzerland County.
Survivors include her brothers, William Earl Scott and wife Katherine of Marietta, Georgia, Edwin “Eddie” Scott and wife Sue of Columbus, and Norman Scott of Vevay; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Donna and Susan Wiggins; her brother, Donald Scott; her sister, Ladora Cook, and her baby sister, Virginia Scott.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 23rd, at 7:30 p.m. at Mount Sterling Baptist Church in Mount Sterling with Reverend Mike Sawalich officiating. Friends may call at the church from 5-8 p.m. Thursday.

Jack Cox

Jack Louis Cox, 64, of Thorntown, Indiana, passed away Sunday, August 19th, at Hospice of St. Vincent’s in Indianapolis.
He was born October 5th, 1942, in Indianapolis, the son of John M. and Mary R. (Reed) Cox. He graduated in 1960 from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis.
He was united in marriage October 18th, 1980, to Teresa Susanne Pospichal in Dover, Pennsylvania.
He was employed at the Ransburg Corporation in Indianapolis as a maintenance supervisor for 20 years. During that time he was responsible for creating several patents as applied to powder coat finishes. He was also employed as a project manager for Ritchie Engineering in Indianapolis from March, 2000, until 2005. He resided in Thorntown the past 23 years where he enjoyed gardening, bee keeping, reading, fishing and hunting in his spare time.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Susanne Cox of Thorntown; his sons, Robert Cox and wife Lynette of Thorntown, David Cox of Florida, Daniel Cox and companion Anna Billingsly of Lebanon, Indiana, and John Cox of Thorntown; his daughters, Kelly Toney and husband Brandon of Zionsville, Laura Cox of Indianapolis, and Shannon Cox of Thorntown; his mother, Mary R. (Reed) Cox of Zionsville; his grandchildren, Brent, Matthew, Robert, Mary, Joey, Nathan, Hannah and Ethan; his brother, John Cox of Pendleton; his sister, Margie Niese of Zionsville; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, John M. Cox.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, August 22nd, by Clarence Blodgett at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Slawson Cemetery in Bennington. Donald Sides

Donald Neal Sides, 63, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, August 8th, at his home.
He was born in Vevay, December 25th, 1942, to James and Edith (Montanye) Sides. He spent his early years in Switzerland County and graduated from Vevay High School in 1962. He was employed at Reliance Electric in Madison for many years. He also worked for Roto Rooter of Nashville, Tennessee, and worked for a construction company in Louisville. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his daughter, Gina Sides of Arlington, Virginia; his brothers, Fred Sides of Huntsville, Alabama and John Sides of Versailles; his sisters, Eleanor Ford of Lebanon, Ohio, Jane Stewart of Commiskey, Indiana, Faye Snyder, Sue Turner, and Mary Sides, all of Vevay; and Ruth Taylor of Marysville, Ohio; 14 nephews and 12 nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Bryan; his sisters, Louise Arnold and Sarah Polk; three nephews; and one niece.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. A private service will be held at a later date. The Cremation Society of Kentucky is in charge of arrangements.

Marvin L. Crawford

Marvin L. Crawford, 72, of Madison, passed away Monday, August 20th, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.
He was born February 18th, 1935, in Rush County, the son of Johnie and Charlotte Agnes Marie (Heaton) Crawford, who both preceded him in death. He was raised in Rush County and was a 1953 graduate of Rushville High School.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army November 17th, 1953, serving during the Korean War. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant First Class and was honorably discharged November 17th, 1957, remaining in the reserves until 1963.
During the 1960s he was employed as a grain salesman for Moorman’s Feed Company. In 1974, he owned and operated Rushville Ford until 1979. In 1978, he moved to Jefferson County. From 1991-1996 he was owner and operator of Crawford Auto Sales in Madison. He was a salesman at heart and from 1959-1996 he had worked in various capacities in sales.
He was united in marriage November 6th, 2002, in Carrollton, Kentucky, to Kimiko “Kim” Ito of Lamb, who survives.
He was a member for several years of Kent Christian Church but was now a member of the Mt. Byrd Christian Church in Trimble County, Kentucky. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf. He enjoyed all types of sports, especially football and basketball.
Other survivors include his daughter, Sarah Haskett and husband Harold of Richmond; his sons, Scott Crawford of Madison and Jason Crawford and wife Angie of Connersville; his grandchildren, Joshua Vanover, Ashley and Matt Elstro; Kelsey and Shayla Crawford; and his great-granddaughter, Ainesleigh Elstro.
He was preceded in death by his father, Johnie Crawford on April 17th, 1990; and his mother, Charlotte Agnes Marie Heaton Crawford on August 7th, 2000.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 23rd, by Brother Aaron Snelling at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Burial will be in Dupont Cemetery with full military honors conducted at the graveside by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Byrd Christian Church. Lucy Pegee

Lucy Mabel Pegee, 92, of Versailles, passed away Monday, August 13th, at The Waters of Dillsboro.
She was born April 20th, 1915, in Rising Sun, the daughter of William A. and Lydia (Hastings) Hamilton. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence Pegee on January 27th, 1968; her brother, John Hamilton; and her sister, Fleda Brock.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Rising Sun Cemetery. Markland Funeral Home of Rising Sun is in charge of arrangements.
