Douglas Eaves

Douglas Eaves, 61, of Madison, formerly of Carrollton, Kentucky, and Vevay, passed away Monday, August 13th, at The Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison.
He was born June 28th, 1946, in Madison, the son of James Carlisle Eaves and Melvlena (Meadows) Eaves Hambrick, who both preceded him in death. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam era. He was honorably discharged March 24th, 1970.
He was a self-employed construction worker until he became disabled. He was a member of the Family Worship Center in Carrollton. He had resided at The Waters of Clifty Falls since 1996, where he enjoyed bingo and the music of Fern & the Gang.
Survivors include his sons, Michael and Jason Eaves, both of Lawrenceburg; his granddaughter, Bailey Eaves; his brothers, David Eaves and wife Joe of Circleville, Ohio, J.W. Eaves and wife Janet of Carrollton, Elden Hambrick of Vevay, and Louis Eaves and wife Peggy of Tampa, Florida; his sisters, Patsy Marsh and husband James of Carrollton, Margie Bell of La Grange, Kentucky, Phyllis Leach of Bedford, Kentucky, Jane Wheeler and husband Danny of Carrollton, and Linda Davis and husband John of Madison; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Max Eaves.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today (Thursday) by Reverend Elisa Owen at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home. Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery with military rites conducted at the graveside by the honor guard of Vevay American Legion Post 185 and Vevay VFW Post 5396. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time today (Thursday). Memorial contributions may be made to The Waters of Clifty Falls. Kenneth Schuler

Kenneth Lee Schuler, 49, of Center Square, passed away Thursday, August 9th, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.
He was born February 22nd, 1958, in Cincinnati, the son of Roy O. and Iva (Keene) Schuler. He was employed as a security guard for Calcrim, Inc., in Cincinnati for three years and was also a security guard and training officer for Grant Victoria Casino in Rising Sun. He was an EMT for Rescue 69 in Versailles for three years. He especially enjoyed being a member of the Sportsman Club of Switzerland County. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a fan of Bluegrass music.
Survivors include his mother, Iva (Keene) Schuler of Center Square; his brothers, Dan Schuler of Center Square and David Schuler and companion Rachel Bladen of Center Square; his aunt, Jewell Hancock of Cleves, Ohio; his uncle, Doug Keene of Cleves; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy O. Schuler.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, August 13th, by Reverend John Scudder at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery. Bernard Johnson, Sr.

Berhard Howard “Bumper” Johnson, Sr., 64, of Madison, passed away Friday, August 10th, at The Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison.
He was born December 31st, 1942, in Madison, the son of William Gobel and Rotha (Cull) Johnson, who both preceded him in death. He resided in Madison all of his life.
He was united in marriage on August 29th, 1964, in Madison, to Delores Aldridge. Unto this union two sons and a daughter arrived to bless their home.
He was employed as a steeple jack all of his life, working in private contracting all over the United States.
He was later united in marriage in 1977, to Mickey Edwards.
He enjoyed socializing with his friends and family, playing cards, shooting pool, watching old westerns and cooking. He was a member of Jefferson Post 9 Sons of the American Legion, the former Eagles Lodge and Madison Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his sons, Bumper Johnson, Jr., and wife Candy of near Moorefield and Keith Johnson and companion Jeannie of Carrollton, Kentucky; his daughter, Jeanette “Jae” Jones and husband Tim of Eminence, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Kevin and Melissa Snell, Michael Snell, Austin Jones, Keith Johnson, Jr., Stirling and Libby Johnson; his sisters, Freda Melton and husband Bird Dog of Madison, Alma Boldery and husband Kenny of Milton, Kentucky, and Wanda Debusk of Hartsville, Indiana; his brother, Bobby Johnson and wife Teresa of Madison; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Albert, Gobel, Tilford, Dewey, Dale and Dicky Johnson; and his sisters, Mona Aulick, Zelda Johnson and Johnnie Davidson.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, August 12th, by Pastor Ernie Lamb at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment was in Springdale Cemetery in Madison. Noah Curry

Noah Mark Selba Curry, 26, of Burlington, Kentucky, formerly of Rising Sun, passed away Tuesday, August 7th, the result of an accident in Bellevue, Kentucky.
He was born November 6th, 1980, in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the son of Mark Curry and Theresa Ann (Ferry) Fancher. He was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1997. He was a server at Argosy Casino in Lawrenceburg.
Survivors include his father, Mark Curry of Rising Sun; his mother, Terri Fancher and husband Linus of Rising Sun; his grandparents, Don and Rose Marie Curry of Rising Sun; his girl friend, Ashley Wurm of Florence, Kentucky; his brother, Salem Fancher of Rising Sun; his sister, Angel Lieland of Patriot; his nephews, Canan, Sawyer, and Nazareth; his niece, Willow; his uncles, David, Vincent, Nick and Rick Ferry, Pat Ferrari, Lynn Chris and Shawn Curry; his aunts, Rita McAllister, Kathy Hodge, Jeannine Barrows and Tammy Brett; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carolyn and David Ferry; his uncle, Ronald Mark Ferry; and his cousin, Ronald Robert Ferry.
Funeral service were conducted Saturday, August 11th, by Brother Greg Matthew at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Burial was in Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Noah Mark Curry Scholarship Fund.

Thomas L. Reed

Thomas L. “Tommy” Reed, 61, of Madison, passed away Tuesday, August 7th, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.
He was born April 16th, 1946, in Jefferson County, the son of Milford and Mabel (Harmon) Reed, who both preceded him in death. He was a lifelong resident of Madison and was a 1964 graduate of Madison High School.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army November 2nd, 1965, in Louisville, rising to the rank of Private First Class, serving Company A 18th Battalion, 2nd Armored Division. He served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged from Fort Knox, Kentucky.
He was united in marriage October 14th, 1967, at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Madison to Donna Gray. Unto this union one daughter arrived to bless their home.
He was employed for seven years with the Madison State Hospital and then worked for Barber Grocery Company until the tornado struck. For the next 11 years he worked for Creesey Company in Louisville. He was a member of Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion, was a former member of Eagles Lodge, International Brotherhood of Teamster’s Local 89, Louisville, Kentucky and Resurrection Lutheran Church.
Earlier in life he had enjoyed playing drums in a local Madison band and had been featured on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour on television. He enjoyed hunting, science fiction, car races, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Indianapolis Colts, playing cards with his family and his Sheltie dog “Sasha.”
Private funeral services were held Thursday, August 9th, at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Private interment was in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison with military honors conducted at the Indiana Veterans’ Memorial Chapel by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion. Hal Bakes

Major Hal Hall Bakes, 92, (Retired, U.S. Air Force), of Browns Mills, New Jersey, passed away Wednesday, August 8th, at his home.
He was a native of Vevay where he graduated from Vevay High School. He attended Oklahoma University as a science major. He joined the Army Air Corps and flew 32 missions in Europe during World War II. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. After World War II, he joined the Air Force Reserves and rose to the rank of Major, then retiring after 23 years of service. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
He was a resident of Browns Mills since 1945. He retired as an electrical engineer for Heinmann Electric, Trenton, after 35 years. He was a member of the Burlington Masonic Lodge #32 F.& A.M. and the Pemberton Township Historic Trust where he contributed many artifacts.
Survivors include his son, Don H. Bakes and wife Andrea of Browns Mills; his daughter, Mary Jo Cogar of Silver Springs, Maryland; five grandchildren, including Erin, Alan and Mara Bakes; and his sisters, Theo Ralston of Madison and Patricia Works of Allensville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite Bakes; and his son, William Bakes.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 15th, at Browns Mills United Methodist Church. Interment with full Air Force honors will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 30th, in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Pemberton Township Historic Trust, 3 Fort Dix Road, Pemberton, New Jersey 08068 or the Browns Mills United Methodist Church, 2 Pemberton-Browns Mills Road, Browns Mills, New Jersey 08015. Professional services were entrusted to the Lankenau Funeral Home, 370 Lakehurst Road, Browns Mills.

Angela Townsley

Angela Frances (Wiesmann) Townsley, 85, of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away at Ft. Hamilton Hospice Unit there Monday, August 13th.
She was born January 13th, 1922, in Hamilton County, Ohio, the daughter of Jacob J. Wiesmann and Marie Focke Wiesmann, who both preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son, Roger Townsley and wife Margaret of Hamilton; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Howard Wiesmann and wife Velma of Bear Branch, Don Wiesmann and wife Charlotte of Burlington, Kentucky, Glenn Wiesmann of Florence, Kentucky, and Ron Wiesmann and wife Eileen of near East Enterprise; and her sisters, Shirley Marshall and husband Allen of Oregon and Pam Allen and husband Rich of Utah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Townsley in 1984; and her brothers, Ken and Jack Wiesmann.
Visitation at Mercy Franciscan at Schroder, 1302 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio, will be held Friday, August 17th, from 9:30 a.m. until time of mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Rising Sun New Cemetery at 1 p.m. Friday, August 17th. www.browndawson.com. Walter LaVelle

Walter LaVelle, age 77, of Rising Sun passed away Wednesday morning, August 15th, at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg.
Funeral arrangements were pending at press time at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. A full obituary will be printed in next week’s edition of this newspaper.
