Mary Lou Konkle

Mary Lou (Dickason) Konkle, 76, of Vevay, passed away at 8:16 p.m. Friday, July 1st, 2011, at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Indiana.

She was born May 30th, 1935, in Vevay, the daughter of Joseph L. and Mildred I. (Newkirk) Dickason. She was raised in Vevay and was a 1953 graduate of Vevay High School where she was a cheerleader. She attended business college in Indianapolis.

On June 7th, 1955, she was united in marriage at her parents’ home to William Lee “Bill” Konkle by the Reverend Donald Konkle. This union was blessed with a son and two daughters.

She was employed as a machine operator at the old U.S. Shoe Corporation in Vevay from 1954-1974. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and adoring grandmother. She was a faithful member of Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church in Vevay. She enjoyed working puzzles, playing bunco, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, traveling and camping.

Survivors include her husband, William Lee “Bill” Konkle of Vevay; her daughters, Diana Lynn Pruett and husband Bob of Corydon, Indiana and Kathy Lee Brown and husband Dennis of Lebanon, Kentucky; her grandchildren, Josh, Kevin and Amy; her sister, Roberta Lamson and husband Bob of Indianapolis; her brother, Harold Dickason and wife Mary Ann of Indianapolis; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lewis and Lucille Konkle of Vevay; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eddie and Jo Konkle of Vevay; her niece and nephews, Lee Ann, Mike, Billy, Eddie, Steven and Alan; several great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred I. (Newkirk) Dickason on July 17th, 1982; her father, Joseph L. Dickason on March 8th, 1991; and her son, Danny Lee Konkle on December 26th, 1956.

Funeral services were conducted by Pastor Tammy Roberts Wednesday, July 6th, at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery. Ken Brown

Raymond Kenneth “Ken” Brown, 87, of Columbus, passed away at 11:20 p.m. Monday, July 4th, 2011, at Davis Elderly Care in Hanover.

He was born May 12th, 1924, in Vevay, the son of Clarence and Bernice (McKenzie) Brown, who both preceded him in death. He was raised in Switzerland County and had resided in Columbus since 1972.

He was united in marriage on April 4th, 1943, in Madison, to Cora Francis Rucker. Unto this union two sons and two daughters arrived to bless their home.

He was employed from 1945-1970 in sales at the Barber Grocery in Madison. He was later employed in marketing and promotions for the Indiana Gas Company in Columbus from 1970-1986. He was a member of the Union Lodge No. 2 F&AM, Columbus Elk’s Lodge, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and the Murat Shrine in Indianapolis. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Hope, Indiana. He will be remembered for his love of golf, reading westerns, woodworking, fishing, hunting and gardening.

Survivors include his daughters, Pauline Francis Bruther and husband Kenny of Hanover and Mandy Messina and husband Dale of Hope; her sons, Kenny Brown and wife Ruth of Lafayette and Jeff Brown and wife Stacy of Columbus; his grandchildren, Kim, Tony, Kristi, Kendra, Amber, Aubrie, Kassie, Cody, Tyler, John and Jennifer; his great-grandchildren, Kori, Joseph, Levi, Jessica, Taelyr, Maycie, Mattie, Jada, Landon, Reese, Kyla, Claire, Stryker, Jay, Hayden, Evan, Charlie, Traevin and Memphis; his great-great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Gabbie, Kadence and Braxton; his sisters, Janice Ramsey of Vevay, Betty Callahan of Westport, Sandy Lanham of Rexville, and Loleta Bolden of Tallahassee, Florida; his brothers, Jack Brown of Westport, Darrell Brown of Vevay and Keith Brown of Seattle, Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Cora Francis (Rucker) Brown; his brothers, Charles Everett Brown, Robert L. “Bobby” Brown and Clarence Brown, Jr.; and his sisters, Virginia Bladen Burton and Mary Magness.

Graveside services will be conducted by Reverend Ronald Sandidge at 11 a.m. Friday, July 8th, with burial in Vevay Cemetery. Private family visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice or Alzheimer’s Association. Minnie Hill

Minnie M. (Davis) Hill, 61, of Rising Sun, passed away at 11:12 p.m. Friday, July 1st, 2011, at Woodland Hills Care Center in Lawrenceburg.

She was born September 30th, 1949, in Vevay, the daughter of John Frederick and Eathel (Buchheit) Davis, who both preceded her in death. She was raised in Vevay and resided in Dearborn County most of her adult life. She was formerly employed in the housekeeping department at Grand Victoria Casino in Rising Sun until she became disabled with cancer. She was also a former employee of Argosy Casino in Lawrenceburg. She will be remembered for her love of gambling, collecting apples, dancing and singing.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandy Farrell and husband Marty of Rising Sun; her sons, Paul A. Hizer and wife Bobbi of Lawrenceburg and Robert F. Hizer of Rising Sun; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her sisters, Martha Cookson of Gretna, Louisiana and Clara Dickason of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Clyde F. and John R. Davis and her sisters, Melissa Oliver and Mildred Disbro.

Funeral services will be conducted by Chaplain Debby Allen at 11 a.m. today (Thursday, July 7th) at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery. Susan Kiser

Susan Juanita (Lucas) Kiser, 81, of Madison, passed away at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 3rd, 2011, at her home.

She was born April 7th, 1930, in Letcher County, Kentucky, the daughter of Millard and Fannie (Goins) Lucas, who both preceded her in death. She was raised near Whitesburg, Kentucky and attended school there.

On January 22nd, 1948, she was united in marriage in Pikeville, Kentucky, to Hobert Kiser, who passed away July 15th, 2010. This union was blessed with four daughters and two sons.

She moved to Jefferson County in 1963 and was employed with Grote Industries for 23 years. She then began private housekeeping for many years. She loved to cook, garden, raise flowers and spent time caring for her grandchildren. She w as a faithful member of the Solid Rock Community Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Brenda Wolf of Madison, Debbie Higgins and husband Joey of Canaan and Shannon Hamilton and husband Kevin of Deputy; her sons, Kenneth R. Kiser of Madison and Keith Kiser and wife Rebecca of Madison; her brother, Millard Kiser of Whitesburg; her grandchildren, Jerry, Joe, Susan, Chris, Heather, Jacqui, Cody, Ethan and Daniel; her great-grandchildren, Casey, Alyssa, Randy, Cassidy, Sunshine, Camdon, Madelyn and Coleman; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Van Kiser in 1954; her great-granddaughter, Ashton Leigh Lawson on June 5th, 2003; her brothers, Delmer, Bennett and Walter Lucas; and her sisters, Lillie Jude, Martha Phillips, Verna Hall and Frona Cook.

Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Mike Shuler at 11 a.m. Friday, July 8th, at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today (Thursday, July 7th) and Friday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Solid Rock Community Church.
