Faye Napier
Faye (Curlin) Roberts Napier, 63, of Florence, passed away at 3:08 a.m. Thursday, May 31st, 2012, at her home.
She was born October 17th, 1948, in Milan, the daughter of Blanton Curlin and Virginia (Cobb) McCormick, who both preceded her in death. She was raised in Aurora and attended Aurora High School.
She was united in marriage on September 27th, 2003, in East Enterprise to Dennis Napier. They resided in Switzerland County the past 20 years. She owned and operated the Dillsboro Diner in Dillsboro from March, 1999-2001. For the past 20 years she was employed in marketing and sales for K.C. Advertising in Lawrenceburg. She will be remembered for her love of crocheting.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis Napier of Florence; her daughters, Sonia Agapie and husband Greg of Sunman, Carrie Dick and husband Jeff of Milan and Brandy Roberts of Brookville; her son, Phillip Cornelius of Brookville; her grandchildren, Tiffany, Cory, Tyler, Adriana, Shelby, Brittany, Dalton, Dustin, Taylor, Ashley, Calip, Brooke Ann and Nicolae; her great-grandchildren, Destiny, Jane, and Aiden; her stepdaughters, Denise Ann Napier and Robin Erin Napier, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; three step-grandchildren; her brothers, Eugene Curlin of Moores Hill, Gilbert Curlin of North Vernon and Ernie Curlin of Vevay; her half brothers, Billy McCormick of Dillsboro, David Curlin of Vevay, Billy Curlin of Aurora and Charles “Chuckie” Curlin of Dalton, Georgia; her half sister, Shirley Ann Davis of Carrollton, Kentucky; her stepsister, Missy Ricketts of Moorefield; her step-brothers, Lee Young of Mulberry, Florida, Paul Young of Milan, James Young of Indianapolis and Bryan Young of Hanover.
She was also preceded in death by her half brother, Steven Curlin; and her stepbother, Alan Young.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 5th, by Reverend Darrell Napier at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Fedonia Cemetery near Vevay. Vernon LaVelle
Vernon Howard “Sonny” LaVelle, 87, of Patriot, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 29th, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
He was born May 14th, 1925, in Rising Sun, the son of James Howard and Lily B. (White) LaVelle, who both preceded him in death. He was raised in Patriot where he resided most all of his life. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy on October 5th, 1943, in Louisville, Kentucky, rising to the rank of Machinist’s Mate Third Class, serving in the South Pacific and Guam in the 89th Naval Construction Battalion Company B and in the Transportation Department in the 103rd Naval Construction Battalion, during World War II. He also served at the NTS Great Lakes, Illinois; the NCTC, Camp Peary, Virginia; NCTC Davisville, Rhode Island (CBT); the 31 Special N.C.B.; the NCTC Davisville, Rhode Island (Trainees); the 30 N.C.B.; the CBMU 619. For his service to his country he received the Point System, the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with 1 Star; the American Area Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. He was honorably discharged on April 15th, 1946, at Great Lakes, Illinois.
He was a retired truck driver and mechanic for Schenley Distillery and Seagram’s Distillery in Lawrenceburg. He was a former truck driver and heavy equipment operator for the Switzerland County Highway Department in the 50s and from 1978 to 1981. He was a farmer at heart and had farmed all of his life, raising tobacco and cattle. He will be remembered for his love of gardening, music, tinkering and he could always fix anything.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (McCord) LaVelle of Patriot; his daughters, Anita LaVelle of Vevay and Patricia Walton of Florida; his son, Kenny LaVelle and wife Lila of Patriot; his grandchildren, Harry Walton III, Joseph Walton, James Hess, and Ray Hess; two great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Lauretta LaVelle of Rising Sun; his nephew, Gary LaVelle; and his nieces, Diana White, Donna White and Linda Thomas.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Walter Louis LaVelle.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 2nd, by Reverend Ronald Sandidge at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Vevay Cemetey with military rites conducted at the graveside by the honor guard of the Rising Sun American Legion Post 59. Colleen Cole
Colleen E. Cole, 86, of Aurora, passed away Sunday, May 27th, 2012, in Lawrenceburg.
She was born Sunday, April 4th, 1926, in Switzerland County, the daughter of the late Thomas Bennett and the late Eleanor Bromwell Bennett. She worked as a Line Captain for Schenley Distillery, retiring after over 41 years of service.
Surviving are her daughter, Faye (Larry) Caplinger of Rising Sun; her sisters, Rita (Jack) Deye of Colerain, Ohio and Geneva Brown of Decatur; her grandchildren, Jonathan (Jilliene) Caplinger and Christina (Dave) Foltz, all of Hebron, Kentucky; her great-grandchildren, Jace, Jenna and Jared Foltz and Chase, Eva and Kate Caplinger.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Cole; and four brothers; and two sisters.

Danny Singer
Danny L. Singer, 50, of Bedford, Kentucky, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Friday, June 1st, 2012, at his home.
He was born March 10th, 1962, the loving son of the late Arthur Leroy and Pauline Asher Singer. He was raised in Jefferson County and attended Southwestern High School. He was employed as a tree trimmer and a farmer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, joking around and being with his children and grandchildrebn.
He was united in marriage to Deanna Handlon on August 6th, 1996, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Survivors include his wife, Deanna Handlon Singer of Bedford; his sons, Steven Singer of Madison and Noah Singer of Bedford; his daughters, Michelle Hertz and husband Kyle of Madison, Alisha Howell and husband Brian of Kokomo, Sara Bowling and husband Matt of Bennington, Grace Singer and fiance´e Chelsey Hudson of Bedford, and Megan Singer of Bedford; 14 grandchildren; his brother, Donnie Singer and wife Vickie of Madison; his sisters, Shirley Cutshall and husband Kenny of Madison and Kathy Bower of Madison; his father-in-law, Virgil Handlon, Sr., of Bedford; his mother-in-law, Rebecca Coghill Wood of Bedford; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was also preceded in death by his twin sisters, Linda and Brenda Singer; and his grandparents, Jack and Katie Connell Singer.

John Richardson, Jr.
John A. Richardson, Jr., 86, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, June 1st, 2012, at 4:08 p.m. in Hospice Inpatient Facility in Columbus.
He was born September 27th, 1925, in Shelbyville, the son of John A. and Verniecy (Kinnaman) Richardson. He was a 1944 graduate of Shelbyville High School. He was a member of Lewis Creek Baptist Church where he served as life deacon and in other church leadership positions. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #28 F&AM. He was a gold card member of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local #4.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a union bricklayer and worked for several area companies for many years, retiring in 1990. He was a fireman with the Shelbyville Fire Department for seven years, retiring in 1960. He enjoyed reading, fishing, shooting, sports, singing in the choir and being active in the church.
On August 29th, 1948, he married Lora Jane Richardson of Shelbyville.
Survivors include his wife, Lora Jane Richardson of Shelbyville; his sons, Stephen (Jane) Richardson of Shelbyvile and Tom (Michelle) Richardson of Manilla; his daughters, Beverly (Kevin) Carson of Needham, Margaret (Scott) Newkirk of Shelbyville and Mary Lou (Jay) Hildebrand of Waldron; his sister, Helen Amos of Fountaintown; his grandchildsren, Michael (Tara) Richardson, Carrie (Roger) Johnson, Jill (Keith) Coen, Christa (Jeremy) Weaver, Whitney Carson, Andrew Newkirk, Sarah Newkirk of Vevay, Jacob Richardson, Adam Richardson and Bradley Hildebrand; his grreat-grandchildren, Craig Reed, Grace Richardson, Sarah and Knox Doen and Ella Weaver.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sons; and his sister, Helen Amos of Fountaintown.
Funeral services were conducted by Reverend Steven Wilson at Lewis Creek Baptist Church in Shelby County. Burial will be in Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by a local veterans organization. Masonic services were held at the funeral home Tuesday evening.
Jonathan Smith
Jonathan Willliam Smith, 37, of Greensburg, formerly of Versailles, passed away at 7 a.m. Friday, June 1st, 2012, at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville.
He ws born January 27th, 1975, in Madison, the son of David A. and Carolyn (Warner) Smith. He was raised in Versailles where he attended school. He was a former mechanic for Terry Elgin in Versailles. He also owned and operated Smith’s Tree Service in Versailles. He will be remembered for his love of racing at the Osgood and Lawrenceburg speedways and spending time with his children.
Survivors include his mother, Carolyn (Warner) Smith Rutter of Osgood; his grandmother, Rosalie Warner of Columbia City; Indiana; his daughters, Chauncellette Schilson and Patty Jo Roark, both of Versailles; his sons, Jonathan Lou James Smith, Joziah William Smith, Jonas Jediah Smith and Gary Thomas Smith, all of Versailles; his granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Schilson of Versailles; his sepdaughters, Carol Jo Holman and Amanda Roark, both of Versailles; his stepsons, Jamie Holman and Billy Holman, both of Versailles; six step-grandchildren; his sister, Marilee Smith of Greensburg; his brothers, David A. Smith, Jr., of Louisville, Kentucky and Ryan Smith of Versailles; his uncles, Wilford Coy of South Whitley, Indiana, Chuck Noel Warner of Arcola, Indiana and Tom Warner of Bennington; his aunts, Barbara Scudder of Vevay, Joetta Drobek of Leo, Indiana, Becky Ross of Columbia City, Greta Connell of Valencia, California, and Harriette Hathaway of North Manchester, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, David A. Smith; his sisters, Conswelia R. Smith and Sabina Ann Clark; his grandparents, Charles Warner and James and Mayme Smith; and his aunts, Marilyn Sue Coy and Juanita Smither.

Rosamond Schoening
Rosamond Lee Wilson Schoening, 73, of Madison, passed away Friday, June 1st, 2012, at her home.
She was born August 1st, 1938, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Bernard Louis and Esther McCartney Wilson. She was a 1956 graduate of Madison High School. She was a county clerk in West Virginia, a paralegal for Pacific Gas & Electric in San Fancisco, California, and an employee of the admissions office at Hanover College. She was a member of Faith Alliance Church in Madison and attended the Jehovah Witness. She was also a member of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, Bible study, reading and playing the pisno.
She is survived by her sons, William Wray III of Madison, Kevin Lynch of Annandale, Virginia, and Kirk Lynch of New Castle; her stepdaughter, Kyra M. Sellers of Union City, California; her stepsons, Darryl A. Schoening of Atascadero, California, and Clark K. Schoening of Livermore, California; her sisters, Betty Collins of Madison and Anne Harper and Sharon Beach, both of Columbus; five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allan C. Schoening, who died December 10th, 2005; and her parents.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 5th, at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial was in the Chapel of the Chimes Cemetery in Hayward, California. Psi Iota Xi Sorority held a special service prior to the funeral Tuesday. Kloie Dawn Garcia, 2, of Bedford, Kentucky, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, May 31st, 2012, at her home in Bedford, from injuries sustained from being struck by a car.
She was born July 30th, 2009, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, the loving daughter of Jeremy Garcia and Jessica Lynn Medeiros Sachleben She was excited to know she was starting preschool soon. She loved her books, Elmo, The Chipmunks, her swing set and swimming. She was full of life and was a very happy little girl.
Survivors incude her mother, Jessica Lynn Medeiros Sachleben and husband Jason of Bedford; her father, Jeremy Garcia of Madison; her big sister, Hailey Marie Medeiros of Bedford; her big brother, Blayden Steven-Perry Booker of Bedford; her grandparents, Karleen and Larry Richmond of Bedford, Barry and Debbie Medeiros of Gardner, Kansas, Tracey Medeiros of New Bedford, Massachusetts, and Carol Sachleben of Milton, Kentucky; her great-grandpa, Stephen Mello of Vevay; her great-grandmother, Karen Mello of New Bedford; her uncle and aunt, Jason Medeiros and wife Rachael of Madison; her great-uncle, Leonard Mello of Vevay; several cousins and other relatives.
