Mildred Jester
Mildred Gray Jester, 92, of Vevay, passed away Monday, June 25th, at Swiss Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.
She was born February 14th, 1915, in Ghent, Kentucky, the daughter of James Arthur and Ada Marie (Taylor) Gray, who both preceded her in death. She resided all of her life in Switzerland County, moving to Vevay in 1982.
She was united in marriage April 3rd, 1944, to Welby James Jester, Sr. They shared 42 years of marriage together until his death July 28th, 1986.
She was employed as a packer for Schenley Distillery in Lawrenceburg for several years. She had also owned and operated a restaurant in Vevay on the corner of Main and Ferry streets for several years. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include her sons, Larry Jester and wife, Cathy of Harrison, Ohio, and Rick Jester of Vevay; her daughters, Mary Jane Lamb of Patriot, Mildred Hobbs of Addison, Ohio, and Mary Jo Robinson of Florence, Kentucky; her stepson, Welby Jester, Jr., and wife Leo of Vevay; her stepdaughter, Audrey Harmon of Vevay; her sisters, Dorothy Browning of Bennington, Betty Spears of Lawrenceburg, and Katherine Carlton of Aurora; her brother, Luther Gray of Carrollton, Kentucky; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Betty Jean Gibbons, Alice Cornett, and Rose Marie Walston; her stepson, Billy Jester; her sisters, Naomi McFarland, Aliene Buck and Judy Carlton; her brothers, Murt and James Gray; and her step-grandson, Jimmy Jester.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today (Thursday) by Reverend Ronald Sandidge at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time today (Thursday). Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity. Helen Barnes
Helen Marie Jump Barnes, 86, of Madison, passed away Wednesday, June 20th, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
She was born August 14th, 1920, in Vevay, the daughter of John and Emma Sigmon Jump, who both preceded her in death.
She was raised in Switzerland County and was a 1938 graduate of Vevay High School. She attended business school and was united in marriage October 24th, 1945, in Madison, to Glenn E. Barnes. Unto this union one son and two daughters arrived to bless their home.
She was a devoted farm wife and helped wherever needed on the farm. She was a devoted other, grandmother and fiend. She enjoyed gardening, decorating and was a noted seamstress. She was a faithful member of the Macedonia Baptist Church and was a member of the Missionary Circle. She was a 4-H leader for Jefferson County for many years.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 23rd, by Pastor Mike Barnes at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Burial was in Brooksburg Cemetery. Floyd Lichlyter
Floyd Warren “Bub” Lichlyter, 68, of Milton, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, June 16th, at Baptist North East Hospital in La Grange, Kentucky.
He was born August 13th, 1938, in Jefferson County, the son of Nathan and Irene Richter Lichlyter, who both preceded him in death.
He was a 1955 graduate of Madison High School and served in the Indiana National Guard. He was a salesman and maintenance man for L & L Mobile Homes for 18 years. He worked for three years at the Lumber Mill Antique Mall. He also worked for Lichlyter Building Supply in downtown Madison for several years. He was retired after seven years of services with the North Madison Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty L. Burkhardt Lichlyter of Milton, Kentucky; his daughters, Tracy Smith of Richmond, Virginia, Jennifer McMahan of Madison and Gretchen Pyles of Madison; her sons, Steve Lichlyter of Alvin, Illinois and Todd Lichlyter of Madison; his stepdaughter, Tanya Nix of Milton, Kentucky; his stepsons, Tony Gossom of Carrollton, Kentucky and Reggie Gossom of Bedford, Kentucky; his sister, SueEllen Voris of Madison; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; four nephews; four nieces; several great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives; his uncle and aunt, Dwight and Marie Lichlyter of Madison.
He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Freida Lichlyter; his son, Jeffrey Lichlyter; his brothers, Lloyd Lichlyter and Leonard Lichlyter and wife Betty.
Funeral services will be conducted by Brother Bob Hicks Friday, June 29th, at 11 a.m. at North Madison Christian Church, 1400 E. S.R. 62, Madison. Interment will be in Springdale Cemetery in Madison. James Uhlmansiek
James Leonard Uhlmansiek, 69, of Rising Sun, passed away Friday, June 22nd, at his home.
He was born February 21st, 1938, in Rising Sun, the son of Leonard and Amelia (Kammeyer) Uhlmansiek. He was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1956. He worked for Seagram’s Distillery in Lawrenceburg from 1966-1996, when he retired. He also worked for the Aurora NAPA Store from 1959-1966. He was a member of the Rising Sun American Legion, Ohio County Election Board, Jury Commissioner, Sheriff’s Merit Board, Rising Sun First and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a great woodworker.
On November 21st, 1959, he married Arlene Thomas, who survives.
Other survivors include his sons, Chris Uhlmansiek and wife Marti of Indianapolis and Lee Uhlmansiek of Fort Wright, Kentucky; his brother, Wayne Uhlmansiek and wife Donna of Cincinnati; his sister, Mary Ann Forsha of Cincinnati; his grandchildren, Haley Uhlmansiek, Ann Marie Uhlmansiek, and Ben Uhlmansiek; and his cousin, Janet Daugherty and husband Wayne of Vevay.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, June 25th, by Father Chris Craig at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora. Burial was in Rising Sun New-German Cemetery in Rising Sun. Memorial contributions may be made to Dearborn County Hospice. Markland Funeral Home of Rising Sun was in charge of arrangements.
Glenda Herrell
Glenda Sue “Susie” Courtney Herrell, 52, of Madison, passed away Monday, June 25th, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.
She was born April 23rd, 1955, in Louisville, the daughter of Tony E. and Bernice (Gray) Courtney. She resided a brief time of her life in Milton, Kentucky, but spent the majority of her life in Madison, except for the years that her husband was in the service.
On January 5th, 1990, she was united in marriage to Joseph Bay “Skip” Herrell, II, in Madison. He brought to this union three daughters to bless their home.
While living in Virginia she was a clerk for Burger King and after moving back to Madison in 1996 she had worked for the Madison Wal-Mart. She enjoyed the computer, crocheting, needle point, collecting dolls and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Rhonda “Ron” Edwards and husband Lowell of Madison, Candace Eldridge and husband Michael of Ft. Benning, Georgia, Kimberly Herrell-Stone and husband Robert Stone, Jr., of Hanover, Brandi Herrell of Alaska; her son, Ralph O’Neal Smith, Jr., and wife Amy of Hanover; her mother, Bernice Gray Courtney of Madison; her sister, Carol Munson and husband Steve of Madison; her brothers, Tony Courtney and wife Rita of Bedford, Kentucky, Dennis Courtney and wife Shelby of Springfield, Louisiana, Donnie Courtney and wife Tammy of Ozark, Alabama, and Jim Courtney of Indianapolis; her grandchildren, Nikki, Anthony, Bryton, Faith, Haley, Sabrina, Trenton, Pyper, Justice and Bryce; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father, Tony E. Courtney on April 15th, 1999; her sister, Anna Jean “Jeanie” Garriott on March 29th, 2001; her grandparents, Ernest Howard and Hattie Hulett Courtney and James and Flossie Gray.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) by Evangelist Bill D. Kendall at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison. Jessica Harden
Jessica May “Jessie” Woods Flood Harden, 28, of Cross Plains, passed away Wednesday, June 20th, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.
She was born March 13th, 1979, in Madison, the daughter of William Robert Flood and Barbara Woods Hoevener. She grew up in the Hanover and Vevay communities and resided near Cross Plains the past several years.
She was united in marriage January 23rd, 1996, in Bedford, Kentucky, to Robert Dale Harden, Jr. Unto this union three sons and two daughters arrived to bless their home. She loved to play bingo and raising her family. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Dale Harden, Jr., of Cross Plains; her sons, Cody Robert Harden, Robert Dale Harden, III, and Gaig Bryant Harden, all at home; her daughters, Ashley Page Harden and Jazzman Moria Harden, both at home; her father and stepmother, William Robert and Heather Flood of Versailles; her mother and stepfather, Barbara and Gregory Hoevener of Madison; her brother, Kevin William Flood of Madison; her sister, Mandy Flood of Hanover; her grandparents, Ruth Starker of Vevay and Leon and Loretta Hoevener of Brownstown; her step brothers, Andy Hoevener of Columbus, Shane Hoevener of Plainfield, Sean Hoevener of Madison, Seth Hoevener of Plainfield and Dylan Flood of Versailles; her step-sisters, Rachel Flood of Pensacola, Florida, Rachel Hoevener of Indianapolis, Sophia Hoevener of Madison, Emily Hoevener of Plainfield, and Emily Flood of Versailles; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her brother, William Robert Flood, Jr.; and her grandparents, Paul and Betty Wood and Robert Flood.

Larry Hizer
Larry Edward Hizer, 58, of Glencoe, Kentucky, formerly of Switzerland County, passed away Monday, June 18th, at the Gallatin Health Care in Warsaw, Kentucky.
He was the son of the late Cecil Edward Hizer (of Vevay) and Louise Hizer, who survives.
Other survivors include his sons, Larry Hizer, Jr., Benjamin Hizer and Timothy Hizer, all of Hamilton, Ohio; his daughter, Antionette Marcoux of Doar, Michigan; his sister, Diane Wagner and husband James Wagner, Jr.; five grandchildren; and his nephew, Ethan Patton of Glencoe.
There will be no services held. Garnett-New-McDonald Funeral Home of Warsaw was in charge of arrangements.
