Lillian White

Lillian Mae “Lil” (Greene) White, 67, of Vevay, passed away at 1:47 p.m. Saturday, June 13th, 2009, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

She was born March 27th, 1942, in Switzerland County, the daughter of Alonzo “Lonnie” and Martha Mae (Covington) Greene, who both preceded her in death. She was raised on Lost Fork and was a 1959 graduate of Central High School.

She was united in marriage on March 28th, 1960, in Switzerland County, to Elmer L. White. Unto this union a son and a daughter arrived to bless their home.

She was employed at Conn Organ in Madison for several years where she worked on the assembly line. She was employed at Osborn’s Clothing stores in Vevay and Madison as a sales clerk for several years. She always enjoyed helping people and was a wonderful caregiver to the elderly. She was a member of Vevay VFW Post 5396 Ladies Auxiliary and attended New Life Fellowship Church in Vevay. She will be remembered for her love of her dog, camping, shopping and music.

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Turner Dixon of Vevay; her granddaughter, Loni Amber Lynn Turner of Daytona Beach, Florida; her grandson, Codey Daniel Turner of Vevay; her stepsons, Bobby T. Sampson, Jr., and wife Linda of Hanover and Richard “Rick” Sampson and wife Pam of Madison; her stepdaughters, Paula Judy of Madison and Rhonda Singer and husband Charles of Madison; her step-grandchildren, Charity, Seth, Matt, Clint, Wyatt, Richard Shane, Jonathan and Sarah; her sisters, Patsy Adams of Brooksburg, Betty Waldon of Madison and Jo Scotti of Vevay; her brothers, Anthony Wayne Greene of Madison and Richard W. Greene of Madison; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her companion, Robert T. “Bob” Sampson, Sr., on October 22nd, 2008; her son, Richard L. “Dickie” White on March 28th, 1997; her sisters, Pauline “Polly” Yengich, Jean Greene, Emma Lee Greene and an infant sister; and her brothers, Robert T. Greene and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be conducted by Brother Larry Spoores at 11 a.m. today (Thursday, June 18th) at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery. Vevay VFW Post 5396 Ladies Auxiliary services were held at the funeral home Wednesday evening. Carroll D. Smith

Carroll D. Smith, 80, of San Bernardino, California, passed away Tuesday, June 9th, 2009, in San Bernardino.

He was born June 19th, 1928, in East Enterprise, the son of Harry and Dora Smith. He earned a Master of Science degree in education from Northern Illinois University. He taught 14 years in Illinois and 31 years in California, the last 30 years with Chaffey Joint Union High School District. He was a member of San Bernardino Church of the Nazarene, having served on the church board for many years. He also served on the Valley Christian School Board for 20 years.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 17th, at Bobbitts Memorial Chapel in San Bernardino. Interment followed at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the L.L. Marner Compassionate Ministry at The Master’s Plan Church of t he Nazarene, 1605 N. Sierra Way, San Bernardino, CA 92405. Doris M. Howlett

Doris M. Howlett, 66, of Rising Sun, passed away Sunday, June 14th, 2009.

She was born in Guilford, Indiana, the daughter of the late Warren and Flora Belle (Kidwell) Craig. She was a member of the Switzerland County EMS and a Switzerland County 4-H Leader. She retired from Thatcher Glass.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Fred Howlett; her son, Ben Howlett and wife Angel; her daughter, Aimee Ballard and husband Don; her sisters, Gloria Hall and Carolyn Fuchs; and her grandchildren, Justin A. Howlett, Aaron M. Ballard, Justin W. Ballard, Allee J. Howlett, Cloe M. Ballard, Noah A. Howlett, and Zachary M. Howlett.

Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Tim Russell at 11 a.m. today (Thursday, June 18th) at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg. Interment will follow in Greendale Cemetery.
