Donald Tague

Donald Edwin Tague, 71, of Rising Sun, passed away at 11:40 a.m. Saturday, April 23rd, 2011, at his home.

He was born in Vevay on February 6th, 1940, the son of Delores (Scudder) Tague of Vevay and the late James Edwin Tague. He was a graduate of Vevay High School, Class of 1958, and attended McKay Engineering and the University of Cincinnati. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force.

On July 10th, 1965, at the First United Church of Christ in Rising Sun, he married Beverly Knigga, who survives him.

He worked as a design engineer at Scott Randall Systems in Batavia, Ohio, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Rising Sun First United Church of Christ. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association and the Lawrenceburg American Legion. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening and being with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Tague of Rising Sun; his mother, Delores Tague of Vevay; his daughter, Tiffany (Tim) McElhany of Vevay; his son, Mark A. (Joy) Tague of East Enterprise; his grandchildren, Kayli, Aliya and Kayman McElhany, and Dustin Tague; his sister, Jeane Scudder of East Enterprise.

He w as preceded in death by his father, James Tague;’ and his brother, Paul Vernon Tague.

Funeral services were conducted by Reverend John Heckman Wednesday, April 27th, at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Interment was in Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Mary Alice Howard

Mary Alice (Furnish) Howard, 92, of Madison, passed away at 1:58 a.m. Saturday, April 23rd, 2011, at her home.

She was born March 30th, 1919, in Vevay, the daughter of the late George Sanford and Martha Richter Furnish. She was raised in Switzerland County and was a 1937 graduate of Vevay High School. She had worked early in life for Gretchen Cole, Attorney, and for Richardson Insurance Agency.

She was united in marriage on October 22nd, 1958, at Switzerland Baptist Church in Vevay to Norris Wayne Howard.

She resided in Jefferson County the past 41 years and was a member of the North Madison Baptist Church. She worked for the U.S. government for 41 years and had retired in 1981. She spent 37 years of her career at the Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison and four years at the Indiana Arsenal in Charlestown and retired as the transportation officer. In her spare time she enjoyed researching family genealogy, reading, and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters.

Survivors include her husband, Norris Wayne Howard of Madison; her daughter, Susan Howard Schafer and husband, Reverend Lawrence Schafer of North Vernon; her son, John N. Howard and his partner, Dr. Fred McCall of San Francisco, California; her stepdaughter, Jane Wakeland and husband Robert of Greenfield; her grandchildren, Jessica E. Schafer of Madison, Rachel M., Lydia E., and Rebecca J. Schafer of North Vernon, Andrea Ticknor of Chicago, Illinois; her stepgrandchhildren, Jera Lee of Elmhurst, Illinois, Angie Lee of Martinsville, Shawn Shepherd of Boise, Idaho, and Steven Shepherd of Detroit, Michigan; her great-grandson, Urijah E. Gabbard of North Vernon; her nieces, Ann Pommerehn and Jean Pommerehn Jones of Madison; her great-niece, Emily Jones of Hamilton, Ohio; and her great-nephew, Adam Jones of Madison.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, George E. Furnish on January 26th, 1971; her sister, Lucille Pommerehn on August 30th, 2001; her mother-in-law, Cullie Cancilla on January 26th, 2001; her nephews, Sanford Furnish on September 27th, 1999 and Thomas Jeffrey Furnish on January 30th, 2010; and her stepdaughter, Ann Shepherd.

Funeral services were conducted by Pastor Frank McGee Wednesday, April 27th, at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday evening at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Madison Baptist Church.
