Dennis Knox

Dennis Ray Knox, 55, of near Moorefield, passed away at 8:40 a.m. Saturday, January 29th, 2011, at his home.

He was born September 12th, 1955, in Madison, the son of Albert Bennie and Norma Jean (Burnett) Knox, who both preceded him in death. He resided near Moorefield and was a 1973 graduate of Switzerland County High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Air Force in 1973 and served during the Vietnam War era and was honorably discharged.

He was united in marriage on June 18th, 1983, in Vevay, to Helen Yvette Emmich. Unto this union one daughter arrived to bless their home.

He was a farmer and worked construction most of his life. He was formerly employed at the Kentucky Utilities in Ghent, Kentucky, Grand Victoria Casino in Rising Sun and the Ogle Haus Inn. He completed his degree in gardening and landscaping from Stratford Career Institute in 2007. He was a member of Switzerland Lodge #122 F&AM, Vevay American Legion Post 185, Vevay VFW Post 5396 and Long run Baptist Church. He will be remembered as an avid hunter, fisherman and winning the Southern Indiana Archery Competition.

Survivors include his daughter, Yvette Renee Knox of Madison; his grandson, Nicholas Ray Knox of Madison; and his brother, Michael Knox of Indianapolis.

Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Ronald Sandidge at 6 p.m. today (Thursday, February 3rd) at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until service time today (Thursday) at the funeral home. Masonic services will be conducted by Switzerland Lodge #122 F&AM at 6 p.m. today (Thursday). Military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Vevay American Legion Post 185 and Vevay VFW Post 5396 Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Vevay American Legion Relief Fund and Vevay VFW Relief Fund. A pitch-in dinner (sides and desserts) will be held at Moorefield Market, sponsored by the market and Terry Hall. Bill Furnish

Wendell Paul “Bill” Furnish, 66, of Markland, passed away at 3 p.m. Thursday, January 27th, 2011, at his home.

He was born March 30th, 1944, in Switzerland County, the son of Charles Russell and Essie Leola (Jacobs) Furnish, who both preceded him in death. He was raised in Switzerland County and attended Vevay High School.

He was united in marriage on January 27th, 1963, in Vevay, to Linda Downing. Unto this union three sons arrived to bless their home.

He was employed with Swifty Oil for 32 years and worked in the field of maintenance and construction most of his life. He was a huge fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Reds. He enjoyed watching the games on television and often attended the games with his sons. He enjoyed gardening, farming, fishing, hunting and most of all, a good game of cards with family and friends.

Survivors include his sons, Paul Wesley Furnish and wife Sondra of Florence, James Russell Furnish and wife Debby of Greensburg, and Michael Dean Furnish and wife Mickie Lynn of East Enterprise; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brothers, Charles Wayne “Chuck” Furnish of Vevay and Carroll Edward Furnish of Italy; his sisters, Karen Lee Taylor of Madison, Mary Jane “Janey” Peelman of Vevay, Patricia Faye Morgan of Milton, Kentucky, and Juanita Faye “Dutch” Scholl of Vevay; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Loren Dale “Nick” Furnish, Charles Furnish and an infant brother; and his sisters, Lovena Mae Jacobs and Myra Gail Furnish.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 31st, by Reverend Ronald Sandidge at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery. Charlene Dunning

Charlene Kay Dunning, 72, of Rising Sun, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Monday, January 31st, at her residence.

She was born in Switzerland County, on December 19th, 1938, the daughter of the late Bernice (Ricketts) and Lloyd McCreary. She attended Rising Sun High School. She worked as a deputy clerk in Ohio County for 10 years. She was a former Ohio County 4-H leader and a member of Rising Sun Church of Christ.

On May 16th, 2004, she married Robert Dunning, who survives.

Other survivors include her daughters, Janice (Gary) Lay of Cleves, Ohio, and Amy Chase of Rising Sun; her son, Rick (Amy) Chase of Franklin, Indiana; her grandchildren, Phillip Chase of Burlington, Kentucky, Valerie Roberts (Casey) of Lawrenceburg and Miranda Lay of Cincinnati, Ohio; her step-grandchildren, Nicholas McKeehan of New York, New York, Michael McKeehan of Indianapolis, and Michelle McKeehan of Athens, Georgia; her great-grandchildren, Mason and Andrew Roberts and Brandon Chase; and her sister, Eloise Gridley of Rising Sun.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond and Kirby McCreary; and her husbands, James Chase and George Perry.

Funeral services will be conducted by Brother Greg Matthew and Eldon Fancher at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 5th, at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, February 4th, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Rising Sun Church of Christ.

Charles Johnson

Charles Allen Johnson, 84, of Madison, passed away at 2:06 p.m. Monday, January 31st, 2011, at The Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison.

He was born November 9th, 1926, in Clark County, Kentucky, the son of Millard Clifton “Cliff” and Mamie (Goolman) Johnson. He resided in Switzerland County for several years.

He was united in marriage to Ramona Boyd on March 6th, 1952. This union was blessed with one son, Dennis. He was united in marriage on June 14th, 1968, in Carrollton, Kentucky, to Virginia R. Andrew. They enjoyed 38 years of marriage together until her death on July 1st, 2006.

He was a self-employed carpenter and co-owned Johnson Brothers Builders from 1956-1999. He enjoyed building residential homes and buildings. He had resided in Jefferson County since 1965. He enjoyed quail hunting with his son and grandson until his health no longer permitted him to do so.

Survivors include his son, Dennis Johnson and wife Linda of Madison; his grandchildren, Devin Johnson and Kyla Johnson; his brothers, Millard Johnson and wife Mary Frances of Winchester, Kentucky and Leon Johnson and wife Pauline of Vevay; his sister, Annie Brookshire of Winchester; his step-grandchildren, Jim, Monne, Jason, Robin, Rodney, Regin and Troy; 23 step-great-grandchildren; six step-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Elwood, David and Clarence Johnson; his sisters, Mabel Johnson, Cora Haggard and Gladys Shelton; his stepdaughters, Sue Hale, Vicky L. Edrington and Shirley Wingham; and his step-grandsons, Robbie Neal Edrington and Ryan D. Lockridge.

Funeral services will be conducted by Brother Bob Hicks Saturday, February 5th, at 2 p.m. at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, February 4th, and Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Raymond Rose

Raymond Rose, 76, of Vevay, passed away at 9:25 a.m. Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

Micah Saunders

Micah Joseph Saunders, stillborn infant son of David and Cheryl (HeHe) Saunders of Vevay, passed away at 3:01 a.m. Friday, January 28th, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Jennifer Burnham

Jennifer Ann Massie Burnham, 46, of Deputy, passed away suddenly from a brain aneurysm stroke Sunday, January 30th, 2011, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

She was born September 22nd, 1964, in Madison, the daughter of Edward N. “Buddy” and Myrna (Yount) Massie. She was raised in Madison and was a 1984 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School.

She was united in marriage on May 28th, 1983, to her sweetheart, Alan J. Burnham, at Calvary Baptist Church in Madison. This happy union was blessed with three sons, James Edward, David Alan and Brent Michael.

Her husband Alan was serving in the U.S. Air Force and the family traveled many places from 1985-1991. She enjoyed being a devoted wife and other. Her sons were her pride and joy. After they settled back in Jefferson County, she began working at Save-A-Lot and Burger King. She later began a career with the Kroger Company in 1995. This was a job she dearly loved because she loved people. She had recently been promoted to customer service manager. She loved being a grandma to Jubilee Erin and Noah James. She was so excited that she soon would be blessed with two more grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, being with her family, attending Sawyer Brown concerts and helping her husband with the events at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. She was a faithful member of Milton Baptist Church in Milton, Kentucky. She will be remembered for her loving smile and her kind and caring nature with people.

Survivors include her husband, Alan J. Burnham of Deputy; her sons, Senior Airman James Edward Burnham and wife Danielle of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina, David Alan Burnham and wife Cassie of Madison, and Brent Michael Burnham and fiancee Miranda Mosier of Madison; her parents, Edward N. “Buddy” and Myrna Yount Massie of Madison; her mother-in-law, Nell Burnham Cayton of Madison; her grandchildren, Jubilee Erin and Noah James Burnham of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina; her brothers, Gerald Nathan Massie and wife Kim of Milton, Kentucky, and James Michael Massie and wife Loretta of Milton; her sister, Pam McCane and husband Jim of Milton; her brother-in-law, Mark Anthony Moore of Dillsboro; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her loving sister, Beverly Denise Massie on April 2nd, 1989; and her loving grandparents, Virgil and Virginia Yount and Sam and Josephine Massie.

Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Tom Starks of Milton Baptist Church at 11 a.m. today (Thursday, February 3rd) at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will be in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until service time today (Thursday).
