Gladys Bass

Gladys Ashby Bass, 88, of Madison, passed away suddently Wednesday, December 14th, 2011, at 4:24 p.m. at her home.

She was born June 18th, 1923, in Madison, the daughter of Richard Steven and Frances Adkins Ashby. She was raised her early life in Madison and was a graduate of Aurora High School. She worked for the State of Kentucky in the accounting department in Frankfort, Kentucky. She also taught art classes for Northern Kentucky University. She resided for several years in the Aurora and Rising Sun communities and enjoyed her many friends and social events there. She had moved back to Madison to be near her daughter and grandchhildren. She enjoyed membership in the senior Ladies Club and the Cincinnati Women’s Club and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed antiques, flowers, painting and being with friends and family.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia G. Smith of Madison; her grandchildren, Lee Smith, Suzanne Smith Laine, Tommy Carbert, Patricia Carbert Wooten, Julie Carbert Hatfield, David Carbert and Tracey Carbert; her great-grandsons, Samuel Beach, Chain Wells and Mason Wells; her niece, Betty Davis Mitchell; several other great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Richard Thomas “Butch” Carbert; her son-in-law, Donald Lee Smith; her sisters, Evelyn Ashby Masser, Vicky Ashby Rowlette and Edna Ashby Rigsby; and her brother, Clifford Ashby.
