Matthew R. Baker, 27, of Vevay, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Monday, October 11th, 2010, at his home.

Dennis Hein
Dennis Joseph “Denny” Hein, 78, of Vevay, formerly of Coldwater, Ohio, passed away at 12:47 a.m. Tuesday, October 12th, 2010, at Hospice East Unit in Cincinnati, Ohio.
He was born July 17th, 1932, in Chickasaw, Ohio, the son of Joseph and Eleanor (Clune) Hein, who both preceded him in death. He was raised in Chickasaw where he attended school. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on February 17th, 1953, in Celina, Ohio, rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on February 10th, 1955, at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He was united in marriage on July 11th, 1953, in Coldwater, Ohio, to Alice Rose Weitzel. Unto this union two sons and a daughter arrived to bless their home.
He was a former trustee, vice president and president of the local Steelworkers Union at New Idea in Coldwater where he worked for 22 years. He was hired to the staff of the United Steelworkers and became assistant to the director for eight years, working there a total of 20 years. He retired and moved to Vevay where he resided on the Ohio River with his wife for the past 18 years. While living in Coldwater he served as Commander of VFW Post 5135, was president of the Coldwater Community Picnic and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. In Vevay he was a charter member of Vevay American Legion Post 185 and was a member of Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church. He will be remembered for his love of the river, woodworking and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Hein of Vevay; his daughter, Pam Meyer and husband Thom of Cincinnati, Ohio; his son, Doug Hein and wife Donna of Cincinnati; his grandchildren, Cassie, Tori, Jordan and Chris; his step-grandchildren, Tami and Michelle Morgan; his great-grandson, Nolan; his sisters, Geneva Dues and Alice Eyink, both of St. Henry, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his infant son, Douglas Joseph Hein on June 21st, 1954; and his brother, Ernest Hein.
Funeral mass will be said by Reverend John Meyer at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 15th, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater, Ohio. Interment will be in St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery in Coldwater with military rites conducted by the Honor Guard of the American Legion and VFW. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today (Thursday, October 14th) and from 9-10 a.m. Friday, October 15th, at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, 715 East Main Street in Coldwater. Herschel Lowe
Herschel Lowe, 92, of Fairview, passed away at 3:47 p.m. Wednesday, October 6th, 2010, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.
He was born February 10th, 1918, in Ohio County, the son of Everett and Belva (Lowe) Holdcraft, who both preceded him in death. He was a farmer and a builder and had built several homes over the years. He built a beautiful home on Bear Branch Road in Fairview for him and his wife to enjoy for the past 21 years. He was a faithful member of the Mount Sterling Baptist Church where he was baptized. He will be remembered as a special father, friend, advisor and good neighbor.
He was united in marriage on February 26th, 1938, in Warsaw, Kentucky, to Helen Marie Hatton. They shared over 64 years together until her death on September 27th, 2002.
Survivors include his daughter, Edith M. Gibbs and husband Eddie of Louisville, Kentucky; his grandsons, Monte G. Gibbs and Robert L. Gibbs; his great-grandson, Troy Gibbs; his brothers, Stacy Holdcraft and wife Daphyne of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Marvin Holdcraft and wife Theresa of Utica, Illinois, Winfred Holdcraft and wife Linda of Seatonville, Illinois, and Randy Holdcraft and wife Linda of McMabb, Illinois; his sisters-in-law, Ruth Holdcraft of St. Paul, Minnesota and Faye Hatton Lewis of Vevay; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Michelle Gibbs on February 6th, 1978; his brother, Odie Holdcraft; his grandparents who raised him, Alexander and Mary Lowe; and his nephew, Ronald Hatton on October 22nd, 2009.
Funeral services were conducted by Reverend Mike Sawalich Monday, October 11th, at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Rising Sun New Cemetery. Karama Smith
Karama Emma (Rayles) Smith, 100, of Lawrenceburg, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, October 10th, 2010, at Woodland Hills Care Center in Lawrenceburg.
She was born April 25th, 1910, in Vevay, the daughter of Edward and Mayme Alma (Gieske) Rayles, who both preceded her in death. She was raised in Vevay where she attended school.
She moved to Lawrenceburg in the 1940s where she raised her son and took care of her grandchildren. She will be remembered for being a devoted mother, grandmother and a Cincinnati Reds fan. She enjoyed preparing wonderful meals for her family to enjoy. She especially enjoyed the family gathering together for the holidays.
She was united in marriage on December 10th, 1932, in Gallatin County, Kentucky, to Claude J. Smith. Unto this union a son arrived to bless their home. Claude and Karama only shared three years of happiness together when tragedy struck and Claude drowned suddenly in the Ohio River on December 12th, 1935.
Survivors include her grandsons, Marcus Smith and wife Trish of Moores Hill and Steven Jay Smith and wife Leslie of Hebron, Kentucky; her sister, Colleen Lamson of Vevay; her sister-in-law, Louise Rayles of Vevay; her brother-in-law, George Lovelace of Dillsboro; her nieces who cared for her, Geraldine Farrar of Lawrenceburg and Audrey Patton of Greendale; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Don Ellis Smith on March 16th, 2003; her sisters, Alma Ricketts, Lula Farrar, Avalyn Moreillon, Anona Lamb and Lorene Lovelace; and her brothers, Leonard, Leslie, Leland and William Rayles.
Funeral services were conducted by Reverend Ronald Sandidge Wednesday, October 13th, at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery. Patricia A. Roth
Patricia A. “Pat” (Thomas) Roth, 70, of Vevay, passed away at 6:51 a.m. Sunday, October 10th, 2010, at Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.
She was born August 15th, 1940, in Kokomo, the daughter of Byron Harold and Frances Marie (Stuart) Thomas, who both preceded her in death. She was raised in Frankfort, Indiana and was a 1958 graduate of Frankfort High School. She graduated from Indiana Business College with a degree as a comptometrist.
She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart on August 15th, 1959, in Frankfort, to Gerald E. Roth. Unto this union two daughters and a son arrived to bless their home.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and baking her world famous apple pies. She will be remembered for being a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed fishing, swimming, bowling, playing cards and water aerobics at the Switzerland County YMCA.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald E. Roth of Vevay; her daughters, Diana Lynne Roth of Anderson and Jacqueline June Roth of Madison; her son, Gary Lee Roth and wife Diane K. of Camby, Indiana; her grandchildren, Matthew, Rachel, Christina, Carol, Josh, Stacey, Nathan and Nickolas; and her great-grandchildren, Madison, Blake, Kaylie, Emma, Sara, Joshua, Patricia, Riley, Dakota and Brayden; and her nieces, Debbie and Brenda.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Lee Thomas.

Charles W. Campbell
Charles W. Campbell, 94, of Madison, passed away at 5:17 p.m. Tuesday, October 5th, 2010, at The Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison.
She was born June 11th, 1916, in Vevay, the son of the late Harold and Laura Manford Campbell. He was raised in Vevay and was a 1933 graduate of Vevay High School. He also attended class at the Versailles Technical School for several years. He was a farmer until the age of 50 and then he began a career in maintenance at Madison State Hospital, retiring after 20 years of service.
He was united in marriage on March 23rd, 1946, in Vevay, by the Reverend Frank Reed to Norma Lee Ricketts. This union was blessed with a daughter, Karen.
The couple moved from Vevay to Madison in 1979, and remained there until his death. He w as a former member of Mount Sterling Baptist Church in Switzerland County, serving as a Deacon and was a participant in the Men’s Sunday School Class. After moving to Madison he became a faithful member of the North Madison Baptist Church. He had served as a trustee of the North Madison Baptist Church. He also was a member of Switzerland Masonic Lodge No. 122 F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and the Fraternal Order of Police.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony was held Saturday, October 9th, at North Madison Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Frank McGee, Reverend Ronald Sandidge, Reverend Ronald “Buzz” Ricketts and Father John A. Meyer. A graveside service was held Monday, October 11, with burial in Vevay Cemetery. Masonic services were held Saturday evening at North Madison Baptist Church conducted by Switzerland Masonic Lodge No. 122 F. & A.M. and Hanover Masonic Lodge No. 652 F. & A.M. Memorial contributions may be made to North Madison Baptist Church or Mount Sterling Baptist Church. Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre of Madison was in charge of arrangements. Andrew Hochstrasser
Andred Ronald Hochstrasser, 75, of Rising Sun, passed away at 5:16 p.m. Saturday, October 9th, 2010, at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 30th, 1934, the son of the late Lorraine (Wenger) and Andrew F. Hochstrasser. He was a graduate of Western Hills High School and was a Cincinnati Masonic Lodge member. He worked as a manager at Cincinnati Bell in Cincinnati. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching sports.
On March 12th, 1955, he married Jane Burton, who survives.
Other survivors include his sons, Jon Hochstrasser and wife Candy, Tim Hochstrasser and wife Amy, and Andy Hochstrasser, all of Rising Sun; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his brother, Robin Hochstrasser and wife Joan of Vevay.
Funeral services were conducted by Reverend Roger Parrott Wednesday, October 13th, at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Burial was in Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio County Rescue.
