Ethelena Berkemeyer

Ethelena Sophia Berkemeyer, 86, of Bear Branch, passed away Saturday morning, July 19th, at her residence.

She was born February 6th, 1922, in Pike Township in Ohio County, to John and Elanora (Benne) Nienhiser. She graduated from Dillsboro High School in 1940.

She was united in marriage to Raymond Berkemeyer December 17th, 1942, in Oklahoma City where he was stationed with the U.S. Army. He passed away August 17th, 1991, after 49 years of marriage.

She enjoyed her life and she and her husband lived most of their married life on the farm where she grew up. She enjoyed her friends and playing cards with them. St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at Milton-Bear Branch was where she worshiped with her husband for pretty much her entire life. This was a very important part of her life. She was in good health until the last few years, when she suffered with her illness.

Survivors include her nephews, Harris and Margaret Stegemiller, Jr., and family and Norman and Linda Stegemiller and family, all of Rising Sun; caregivers, Teresa York and Martina Mosley; several great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Loraine; her sister, Leona; and several cousins and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 23rd, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bear Branch. Interment was in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery. Filter-DeVries Funeral Home of Dillsboro was in charge of arrangements.

Terry Siekman

Terry Joe Siekman, 53, of Rising Sun, passed away Monday, July 21st, at his home.

He was born September 30th, 1954, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Donald and June Maxine (Murray) Siekman. He was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1972. He was a regional manager for Quality Carriers in Tampa, Florida. He was a member of First United Church of Christ in Rising Sun.

On March 10th, 2007, he married Debra Brown, who survives.

Other survivors include his father, Donald Siekman of Rising Sun; his sons, Jason Siekman of Rising Sun and Johnny Hall and wife Katrina of Milan; his daughters, Kindra Russell and husband Doug of Rising Sun, Caitlyn Siekman of Ghent, Kentucky and Stephanie Darringer and husband Rob of Columbus; and his grandchildren, Claudio Gallegos, Angelo Gallegos, Isabel Siekman, Emma Russell, Eloise Siekman, Spencer Carringer, Christian Darringer, Shalee Darringer, and Kiera Hall.

He was preceded in death by his mother, June Siekman; and his brother, Gary Siekman.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25th, by Pastor John Heckman at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Burial will be in Rising Sun New Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today (Thursday) at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Dearborn County Hospice in Lawrenceburg or the American Cancer Society.

Harold Poellman

Harold Christian “Pelly” Poellman, 97, of Lawrenceburg, formerly of Rising Sun, passed away Saturday, July 19th, at Dearborn County Hospital.

He was born in Indianapolis, November 23rd, 1910, the son of the late August and Minnie (Doenges) Poellman. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Lawrenceburg. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was self-employed as a store owner at Ben Franklin Five & Dime in Rising Sun. He was a graduate of Lawrenceburg High School, Class of 1930. He was a charter member of the Rising Sun Lions Club and Rising Sun Yacht Club. He was a member of Rising Sun Rotary Club and American Legion and Lawrenceburg Masonic Lodge. He was a Rising Sun bank director for 29 years, former Rising Sun City Councilman, former owner of Rising Sun Marathon and Lawrenceburg Shell stations. He built and owned the Rising Sun Post Office building and was part of a group that started the Rising Sun Bowling Alley. He also had been a meat cutter at Kroger’s and had owned two farms.

He was the widower of Lucille (Ricketts) Poellman. They were married February 12th, 1935, and were married for 71 years. She died April 27th, 2006.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. today (Thursday) by Reverend Jeremy Russell at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery in Lawrenceburg. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time today (Thursday). Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
