Sam Stewart
Samuel Eugene “Sam” Stewart, 57, of Madison, passed away Monday, September 26th, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.
He was born April 22nd, 1948, in Ghent, Kentucky, the son of Eugene and Dorothy E. (Stewart) Browning, who both preceded him in death. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy on December 29th, 1966, in Vevay, rising to the rank of GMT3. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged December 28th, 1972.
During his service to his country he was united in marriage to Sarah Ann “Sally” Arkell on September 27th, 1969, in Scotland. Unto this union a son and a daughter arrived to bless their home.
He was employed as a supervisor for Dayton-Walther in Carrollton, Kentucky, from 1981-1992. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing and playing cards. He was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post 185 and Vevay VFW Post 5396.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Ann “Sally” Stewart of Madison; his son, Samuel Eugene Stewart, Jr., of Madison; his daughter, Elizabeth Jester and husband Charles, Jr., of Vevay; his grandchildren, Trenton and Hailee Jester; his sisters, Lucretia M. Lyon of Vevay and Vickie D. McCullum of Warsaw, Kentucky; his brother, Richard D. Browning of Milan; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Howard Wade at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery with full military rites conducted at the graveside by Vevay American Legion Post 185 and Vevay VFW Post 5396.
