Gladys L. Phillips

Gladys L. Phillips, 88, of Aberdeen, passed away Tuesday, July 18th, at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg.
She was the widow of Orville Phillips.
She is survived by son, Stanley Phillips and wife Linda of Aberdeen; and daughter, Eileen Wiesmann and husband Ronald of East Enterprise.
Funeral arrangements were pending at press time at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. A complete obituary will be printed in next week’s edition of this newspaper.

Kevin Wesley

Kevin William Wesley, 17, of Lake Geneva, passed away Tuesday, July 18th, at his home.

Roger Reed

Roger Henry Reed, 91, of Green Valley Road, near Vevay, passed away Saturday, July 15th, at his home.
He was born January 14th, 1915, in Switzerland County, the son of George W. and Bertha E. (Detraz) Reed, who both preceded him in death. He resided in Switzerland County all of his life.
He was united in marriage June 5th, 1937, in Brooksburg, to Edith McKay. Unto this union two sons arrived to bless their home.
He was a farmer and had farmed his farm for the past 65 years on Green Valley Road. He was also a school bus driver for the Switzerland County School Corporation for 35 years. Early in life he worked construction at the Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison. He enjoyed tilling his land, raising cattle, hunting and trapping. He was a member of the old Braytown Christian Church and attended Union Baptist Church in Lamb.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Reed of Vevay; his sons, Robert W. “Bob” Reed of Vevay and Paul Roger “Sonny” Reed and wife Karen of Vevay; his granddaughters, Vicki Reed of Indianapolis, Paula Hamilton of Vevay, Gina Pyles and husband Everett of Vevay; and his great-grandchildren, Michelle, Allison, Ashley, Jordan and Riley.
He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Roger Wayne Reed on December 24th, 1989; and his sisters, Harriet E. Miller on October 19th, 2002, and Ruth King in 1993.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 19th, by Reverend Mike Barnes at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Union Baptist Church or Hospice of King’s Daughters’ Hospital. Norma L. Roberts

Norma L. (Chase) Noel Roberts, 76, of Lawrenceburg, formerly of Switzerland County, passed away Tuesday, July 11th, at her home.
She was born Friday, May 9th, 1930, in Florence in Switzerland County, the daughter of the late Arnold and Blanche (Scott) Chase, who both preceded her in death.
She married Freeman Noel in 1946 and they had a son Steve Noel. They lived in Lawrenceburg most of their lives. He passed away in 1983. She later married Arthur Eugene Roberts.
Survivors include her husband, Gene Roberts; her son, Steve Noel and wife Marlinda of Aurora; her daughters, Joy Cobb of Florida, Terry Roberts of Florida, and Tammy Ballard of Anaheim, California; her brother, Jerry Chase and wife Bernice of Belmont, Ohio; her sisters, Barbara McCreary and husband Bill of Greendale, Brenda Peelman and husband Jeff of East Enterprise and Peggy Sullivan and husband Joe of Austin; her stepson, Arthur Roberts, Jr., of Arkansas; two grandchildren, Michelle and Amy; and four great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Jonas Keith of Florence; her sister-in-law, Patty Chase of Florence; several nieces and nephews; many friends and her church family at Dearborn Baptist Church in Manchester.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Chase; and her sister, Corrine Keith.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 14th, at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home, Inc., in Lawrenceburg. Burial was in New Liberty Cemetery near East Enterprise. Contributions may be made to the family.

Alene Steele

Alene (VanOsdol) Steele, 95, of Beech Grove, formerly of Switzerland County, passed away Monday, July 3rd.
She was born June 1st, 1911, in Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Christopher and Mame VanOsdol. She was a former member of Long Run Baptist Church near Moorefield and enjoyed crocheting and jigsaw puzzles. She retired from Merchants Bank, now National City Bank, as a bookkeeper after 27 years of service.
Her husband, Roy Dale Steele, preceded her in death on September 27th, 1983. After their marriage they resided on what is now Montgomery Road, off Parks Ridge.
She is survived by her daughter and caregiver the last several years, Mary Lou Croker; her grandson, Richarda Skirvin and wife Joanne; her great-grandchildren, Rachel Alene and Aaron Christopher Skirvin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 7th, in Little & Sons Beech Grove Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Home Health Service Hospice, 9894 E. 121st St., Fishers, IN 46037.
