Hurdis E. Rose
Hurdis E. Rose, 80, of Madison, formerly of Vevay, passed away Monday, June 13th, at The Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison.
He was born July 9th, 1924, in Logan, West Virginia, the son of Elwood and Goldie (Tackett) Rose. He was a truck driver for Huey Trucking in Cincinnati and Schenley Distillery in Lawrenceburg, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Teamster Union Local 100, Vevay American Legion Post 185, and Vevay VFW Post 5396.
He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of private and was honorably discharged on November 19th, 1945. He enjoyed socializing with his many friends and was a very loving and giving person.
He was united in marriage to Lillian Downard on May 29th, 1929, and she passed away on October 16th, 1996.
Survivors include his daughters, Pam Kopp and husband Mike of Hamilton, Ohio, Diane Ridder and husband Tim of Cincinnati, and JoAnne Hollingsberg of Missouri; his son, John Rose and wife Donna of Cincinnati; his sisters, Dreama Rose of Middletown, Ohio and Betty Niekirk of Phoenix, Arizona; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jay and Gene Rose; and his sisters, Avenelle Rengering and Pauline Rose.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 22nd, at 10 a.m. (slow time) at Arlington Memorial Gardens Chapel in Mt. Healthy, Ohio. Burial will be in Arlington Memorial Gardens Chapel, 2145 Compton Road, Mt. Healthy with a flag presentation. Friends may call from 9 a.m. (slow time) until service time Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vevay American Legion and Vevay VFW Relief Funds. Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home of Vevay is in charge of arrangements. Lena G. Bennett
Lena G. (Wells) Bennett, 93, of Drakes Ridge, passed away Friday, June 10th, at Scott Villa Living Center in Scottsburg.
She was born August 9th, 1911, in Washington, Indiana, the daughter of S. Emmett and Cora (Barrett) Wells. She was raised in Orange County, Indiana, and graduated in 1931 from Orleans High School. She moved to Switzerland County in 1940.
She was united in marriage to Clarence William Bennett on February 3rd, 1946, at the Christian Church. She worked early in life for Hammels & Fanchers General Stores in Vevay for several years. She was a homemaker and farm wife all of her life. She was a member of the Fairview Extension Homemakers Club and Center Square Church of Christ. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing and quilting. She was a devoted mother and enjoyed her farm.
On February 3rd, 1916, she married Clarence William Bennett, who died January 28th, 1981.
Survivors include her son, Gary L. Bennett of Fairview; her stepdaughter, Marietta M. Lester of Vevay; her stepsons, Dee Bennett of Madison and Bill Bennett of Chesterton, Indiana; her sisters, Dorothy Nicholas of Scottsburg and Lillian Murphy and husband Bob of Scottsburg; several step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and her stepsons, Stanley Hardin Bennett and Geral J. Bennett.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 13th, by Brother Don Truesdell at Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery. Frances Leach
Frances Leach, 89, of Latonia, Kentucky, passed away at her home at 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 14th.
She was a homemaker and a member of Hilltop Church of Christ in Taylor Mill, Kentucky.
Survivors include her son, William R. Leach, Jr., of Latonia; her daughters, Nancy Johnson of Independence, Kentucky and Judy Lozier of Vevay; her sister, Ruth Rowe of Erlanger, Kentucky; and three grandchildren.
Her husband, William R. Leach, Sr., died in 1982.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. (slow time) Saturday, June 18th, at Hilltop Church of Christ in Taylor Mill. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Taylor Mill. Friends may call Friday, June 17th, 4-7 p.m. (slow time) at Connley Brothers Funeral Home in Latonia.
