Gertrude Buchanan

Gertrude “Gertie” (Green) Buchanan, 94, of Indianapolis, formerly of Columbus and Vevay, passed away Sunday, April 16th, at Lakeview Manor in Indianapolis.
She was born November 30th, 1911, in Owen County, Kentucky, the daughter of Frank F. and Ella May (Maddox) Green, who both preceded her in death. She was raised in Ohio County.
She was united in marriage to Wilford L. Buchanan on December 16th, 1931, in Vevay. Unto this union three sons and one daughter arrived to bless their home.
She was a farm wife and helped her husband operate the Mount Sterling General Store in Mount Sterling for several years. She resided in Switzerland County for 25 years. She later moved to Columbus, residing there for 28 years, and worked as a waitress for the Trolley Stop Restaurant in Columbus in Columbus for several years. She was also a private housekeeper for several years. She was a member of the Mount Sterling Baptist Church in Switzerland County. She enjoyed quilting, ceramics, crocheting and gardening in her spare time. She resided in the Indianapolis area the past eight years to be near her daughter.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Buchanan of Indianapolis; her sons, Bill Buchanan and wife Norma of Hayward, California, and Roger Buchanan of Aurora, Illinois; her grandchildren, Melinda Guthrie, Diana Buchanan Clemens, Mark Buchanan, Bobby Buchanan, and David Waggoner; her great-grandchildren, Jason and Chris Guthrie, and Crystal Choromokus; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilford L. Buchanan on February 10th, 1980; her son, Bobby Dean Buchanan; her sisters, Ollie Lilly and Ada B. Simpson; and her brothers, John, Bill and Leonard Green.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 19th, by Reverends Bob Estes and Ronald Sandidge at Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Rising Sun New Cemetery. Ruby M. Rice

Ruby M. Rice, 79, of Indianapolis, formerly of Rising Sun, passed away Tuesday, April 18th, in Indianapolis.
She was born September 24th, 1926, in St. Francisville, Indiana, the daughter of Floy “Dick” and Veda Coe. She was a licensed realtor for Rumsey Realty. She was a former Worthy Matron of the Rising Sun Eastern Star.
On March 13th, 1944, she married Harold W. Rice, and they had celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Survivors include her husband, Harold W. Rice; her son, Ronald Rice of Florida; her daughter, Phyllis Illingworth and husband Dean of Indianapolis; her sister, Mary Nocks; her grandchildren, Rebecca Legeman and husband Andy, Yvonne Weaver and husband Wayne, Mike Rice, Letha Keslar and husband Mark, Rachel Illingworth, Michelle Williams and husband Scott, and Shawn Rice; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Robert Rice.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until service time.
