Gary Lee Purnell
Mr. Gary Lee Purnell , age 69, of Vevay, died at 12:35 p.m., Monday, July 13th, 2015, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.
Gary entered this life on May 5th, 1946, in Vevay, the son of Stanley Purnell and Charlotte (Coy) Purnell-Walker. He was raised in Vevay, where he attended school. At the age of 13 he started working at Unwiller Hardware Store to help support the family. He worked for Roberts Grocery Store at the age of 16.
At the age of 19, Gary was inducted into the United States Army on December 1st, 1965, in Louisville, Kentucky, serving during the Vietnam War. He earned the National Defense Medal and was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th Class on November 30th, 1967, at Fort Carson, Colorado.
Gary was united in marriage to Barbara Joyce Rose on May 17th, 1969, by Reverend Walker at the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Bear Branch, Indiana; and to this union arrived a son, Mark; and a daughter, Eve to bless their home. Gary and Barbara shared 46 years of marriage together until his death.
Gary was employed by the U.S. Shoe Factory in Vevay for three years after he returned home from the Army. He then was employed as a meat cutter for Swiss Market for 15 years. He then went back to the U.S. Shoe Factory for another 15 years until the factory closed. Gary was employed for Belterra Casino & Resort, retiring in 2011 after 10 years of service.
Gary resided all of his life in the Switzerland County Community. Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early years of life and hosted many yearly fish fries for friends and relatives. He also enjoyed the family dogs: Scarlett 1 and 2, Bernie and Ed.
Gary will be missed by his wife: Barbara Joyce (Rose) Purnell of Vevay; his son: Mark Purnell of Vevay; his daughter: Eve “Sis” Purnell of Vevay; his grandson: Zachery “Zac” Purnell of Vevay; his mother: Charlotte (Coy) Purnell-Walker of Vevay; his brother: Galen Purnell of Moorefield; his brother-in-law: John Lock of Vevay; his sister-in-law: Becky Purnell of Vevay; and his several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father: Stanley Purnell, who died December 23rd, 1978; his step-father: Ralph Walker, who died in 1969; his paternal grandparents: Omer and Mary Purnell; his maternal grandparents: Lawrence and Bertha (Scudder) Coy; his brother: Charles L. Purnell, who died August 3rd, 2001; his sister: Bonnie Jean Lock; his aunt: Jean Purnell; and his uncle: Eddie B. Purnell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, July 17th, 2015, by Rodney L. Nay, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay.
Full military rites and Interment will be conducted at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185, the Vevay VFW Post #5396 and the Fort Knox Ceremonial Unit.
Friends may call 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, July 17th, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home.

John Franklin Foreman, Jr.
Mr. John Franklin Foreman, Jr., age 67, of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on Friday, July 10th, 2015 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
John entered this life on March 17th, 1948 in Harve de Grace, Maryland, the son of the late John Franklin Foreman, Sr. and Margie Susan (Moyer) Foreman-Roberts. John graduated from High School in Aberdeen, Maryland. He had been employed as an Equipment Operator for the Mitchell Canning House in Perryman, Maryland for several years and spent most of his life in the Aberdeen and Baltimore, Maryland areas.
John will be missed by his daughter: Mary Ann Jones and husband: Casey of Vevay; his grandson: Allen Jones of Vevay; granddaughter: Brooklyn Jones of Vevay; his sister: Sally Cooper and husband Robert of Aberdeen, Maryland; his niece: Christina Knote and husband Scott of Elkton, Maryland; his nephews: Robert Cooper, Jr. and wife Dreama of Aberdeen, Maryland and Toby Cooper and wife Tianna of Perryman, Maryland; and his great nieces: Abigail Knote, Heather, Trinity and Tabrina Cooper.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John Franklin Foreman, Sr. and Margie Susan (Moyer) Foreman-Roberts and his brothers: Tommy and Donnie Jones.

Charles Nathan McCardle, 92, of Rising Sun, Indiana, passed away at 3:20 p.m., on Friday, July 10th, 2015 at Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
Charles was born in Ohio County on March 8th, 1923, a son of the late Blanchie (Hastings) and Reuben McCardle. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army and was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was also a faithful member of Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ.
Charles was a dairy farmer and loved being outside and taking care of his cattle and horses. He had a kind and caring nature and will be missed by his family and friends.
Charles is survived by three step daughters: Joy Huffner, of Rising Sun; Emma McPeek, of Aurora, Indiana; and Brenda Allen, of Aurora, Indiana; and by a stepson: Carroll VanTyle, of Hebron, Kentucky. He is also survived by several step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his three wives: Betty in 1992; Edwina in 2004; and Bernice earlier this year. He was also preceded by his stepson, Jerry Lee Cochran; his brother Raymond McCardle; and sisters Mable McCardle and Viola Lambert.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Thursday, July 16th) at the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ on Salem Ridge Road in Ohio County. Friends are invited to call today (Thursday) 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery.

Laurie Lynn (Russell) Barrett 59, of Vevay, passed away at Indiana University Health Hospital on Thursday, July 9th, 2015.
Born in Batesville, Indiana on July 8th, 1956 to John F. and Rudy L. Russell. She was employed at Swiss Villa nursing home in Vevay, and then at Dorman Automotive in Warsaw, Kentucky for over 20 years before becoming her parents full time caregiver.
Laurie loved spending time with her family and friends, and caring for her father. She was known as a generous and kind person who was loved by all.
Laurie was preceded in death by her mother, Rudy Russell and sister, Melody Smith.
She is survived by her loving children; Maraiah Russell (Heath Hurst) and Sarah Russell of Fort Wayne; and Zachary Barrett of East Enterprise. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Lilly, Luke, and Chloe; her sisters; Dawn (Ed) Ransdell of Vevay and Cindy (Jim) Borton of Tipp City, Ohio; by her father: Fred Russell of Vevay; and many nieces and nephews.
