Virdus ‘Jiggs’ Thies
Virdus Junior “Jiggs” Thies, 73, of Rising Sun, passed away at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 8th, at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
Jiggs was born in Milan, Indiana on May 27th, 1944, the son of the late Elizabeth (Smith) and Virdus Bo Thies. He attended Rising Sun Schools.
On November 10th, 1962 Jiggs married Hazel (Jones) Thies. Jiggs and Hazel were married over 50 years until her passing on March 7th, 2013.
Jiggs worked as a truck driver through the Teamsters Union for over 30 years. He drove for Chemical Leaman Tank Line for several years and lastly for Roadway.
Jiggs was an avid coin collector. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and assembling model cars. Jiggs was also a very patriotic American. He loved children and had a way of connecting with them. Once you had Jiggs as a friend, you had a friend for life.
Jiggs is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Thies Steiner, of Rising Sun; by two sons: Davin Thies, of Rising Sun and William Mason Fancher, of Vevay; by grandchildren: Jamie McFaddin, Jenna Fancher, Jesse Thies, Davin Thies, Jr., Matt White and Bethany Cutter; by great grandchildren: Rosabella, William, Mattie, Matthew, McKenzie, Chrysti and Davian; and by a sister, Betty Ashcraft, of Rising Sun.
Jiggs was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife Hazel; and by brothers: Russell, Clifford and Bill Thies.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 14th at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, with Reverend Jim Jenkins officiating. Friends are invited to call on Thursday, July 13th, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery.

Michael Damian Hite, age 21, of Vevay, passed away at 9:07 a.m., Tuesday July 4th, 2017, at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.
Michael entered this life on March 6th, 1996, in Madison, the loving son of Stephanie Lynn (Mangold) Jones. Michael was raised in Vevay, where he was a 2014 graduate of the Switzerland County High School. In 2015, he attended the Ivy Tech Community College in Madison.
Michael was inducted into the United States Army on February 16th, 2016 in Columbus, Ohio. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. Michael was honorably discharged on December 22nd, 2016 at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Michael resided all of his life in the Vevay community and enjoyed weight lifting and spending time with his friends and family.
Michael will be deeply missed by his mother: Stephanie Lynn (Mangold) Jones of Vevay; his close family friend who raised him: Tim “T-Bird” Steelman of Vevay; his brother: Tristan Arthur of Vevay; his sister: Caitlyn McAlister of Vevay; his maternal-grandmother: Loretta Hite and her companion: William Fancher of Vevay; his maternal-grandfather: Stephan Mangold of Vevay; his paternal-great-grandmother: Libby Ray of Vevay; and his numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal-grandmother: Terri Linn Ray Spenneberg; his paternal grandfather: Gregory Brewer; his maternal-great-grandparents: Kenneth Lee and Carol Sue (McCracken) Hite; his maternal-great-grandparents: George and Helen Mangold; and his paternal great-grandfather: Vernon Ray.
Friends were invited to call on Tuesday, July 11th, at the Truth Apostolic Church, 6160 Highway 56 Vevay, Indiana 47043. Memorial Services were conducted on Tuesday, July 11th, by Brother Anthony Wilks, at the Truth Apostolic Church.
