Juanita Koons

Juanita May (Keith) Koons, age 86, of Palmyra, Indiana, formerly of Switzerland County, passed away at 3:07 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6th, 2017, at her residence in Palmyra.

Juanita entered this life on April 11th, 1931, in Allensville, Indiana, the loving daughter of the late James Wilford and Avis Omie (Chase) Koons. She was raised in Switzerland County, where she was a 1949 graduate of Vevay High School.

She was united in marriage on December 6th, 1950, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Roy Ebert Koons, and to this union arrived two sons: Jerry and Terry; and a daughter, Teresa to bless their home. Roy and Juanita shared nearly 56 years of marriage together until Roy passed away on October 21st, 2006.

Juanita was employed as a conveyor line operator at the Plastic Molding, Inc., in East Enterprise, retiring in 1993 after 23 years of service. She was formerly employed at the U.S. Shoe Factory in Vevay for eight years.

She had resided in Switzerland County most of her life until May 12th, 2012, when she moved to Palmyra, Indiana, to be near her daughter. Juanita was a former member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church and was a member of the Palmyra Baptist Church. She was a member of the America Center Law of Justice. She enjoyed her pets and gospel singing. Juanita will be remember by her family and friends for her beautiful smile and her loving and caring nature.

 Juanita will be dearly missed by her daughter: Teresa Akridge and her husband: Dave of Palmyra, Indiana; her son: Terry Koons and his wife: Sharon of Swanton, Vermont; her grandchildren: T.J., Heather, Kelly, M.G., Amanda, Crystal, Mariah, Shawn, Angel, Cindy and Kevin; her great-grandchildren: Katlynn, Caleb, Kerstin, Klarissa, Valerie, Tristen, Bailey, Sue, Brenden, Gavyn, Ephrem, Danica, John, Logan, Roland, Marilyn and Dominque; her sister: Sarah McCreary of Allensville, Indiana; her brothers: Jonas Keith of Florence and Roy Keith of Vevay; and her numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father: James Wilford and Avis Omie (Chase) Keith; her husband: Roy Ebert Keith; her son: Jerry Koons; her brothers: Denver, Albert Wayne, Hubert Wesley, Kirby, Paul Dean, Clifford, Leon, Wilford “Junior” and Larry Keith and one infant brother; her sister: Hazel Knaus and one infant sister.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 10th, 2017, at 11 a.m., by Pastor Patrick Lanman, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana, 47043. Interment will follow in the New Liberty Cemetery, East Enterprise.

  Friends may call 5-8 p.m. on Friday, June 9th, 2017, at the funeral home.

Lorri Sullivan

Lorri Lee (Thornton) Sullivan, age 49, of Five Points, Indiana, passed away at 7:03 a.m. on Thursday, June 1st, 2017, at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

Lorri entered this life on September 17th, 1967, in Madison, the loving daughter of, Ronald Curtis and Beulah Ann “Bootie” (Chase) Thornton. She was raised in Switzerland County, where she was a 1985 graduate of the Switzerland County High School.

Lorri was united in marriage on June 22nd, 1991, at the Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church in Vevay, to Stan F. Sullivan. Lorri and Stan shared 26 years of marriage together until her sudden death.

Lorri was currently employed as a Ordering Associate for Arvin Sango in Madison, where she had worked for the past 15 years. She was formerly employed for the U.S. Shoe Factory and was a former Manager for the Dollar Store in Vevay.

Lorri loved her beagle dog, ‘Sooner’, driving her Camaro; and enjoyed planting flowers, collecting antiques, attending flea markets and spending time with her family and friends. Lorri was a wonderful homemaker and will be dearly missed by her loving family and abundance of friends.

Lorri will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 26 years: Stan F. Sullivan of Five Points; her mother: Beulah Ann “Bootie” (Chase) Thornton of Vevay; her brother: Gregory Dean Thornton and his wife: Chantelle of Vevay; her mother-in-law: Judy C. (Neal) Sullivan of Madison; her aunts and uncles: Pamela Chatham and her husband: Bobby of Vevay, Terry Thornton and his wife: Saundra of Jamestown, Tennessee, Elizabeth “Liz” Little of Markland, Betty Raisor of Moores Hill, Indiana, Clarence “Buster” Chase and his wife: Norma of Vevay, and Doris Chase of Florence.

Lorri will also be dearly missed by her sister-in-law and brothers-in-law: Kim Hartwell and her husband: Larry of North Vernon, Indiana and Wayne Sullivan of Madison, IN; her nieces and nephews: Ashley Wykoff and her husband: Korey of Vevay, Adam Thornton and his wife: Shelby of Vevay, Joey Hartwell and his wife: Morgan of Seymour, Indiana, Niki Dailey and her husband: Scott of North Vernon, Indiana, and Brandi Sullivan of Indianapolis, Indiana; by her great-nieces and great-nephews: Paisley Thornton, Owen and Will Dailey and Riley and Rhett Hartwell; and her several cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father: Ronald Curtis Thornton; her father-in-law: Robert V. “Bob” Sullivan; her paternal grandfather: Raymond Curtis Thornton; her paternal-grandmother: Wilma A. (Meier) Thornton-Meyer; her paternal-step-grandfather: Herman Meyer; her maternal-grandparents: Clarence “Doc” and Mary Ellen (Reed) Chase; her aunts and uncles: Leo “Ike” Chase, Viola “Sis” Gregory, Cora Wilson, Geraldine Peters, Ruth Romans, Donald Chase, Paul David Chase, Vivian Chase, William O. Little, William Wilson, Claude Romans, Wendell Gregory, Robert “Jake” Peters and Bill Raisor and her great-niece: Isabella Dailey.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, June 4th, 2017, by Reverend Mike Sawalich at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana, 47043. Interment followed in the Vevay Cemetery.

Friends were invited to call on the family on Sunday, June 4th, prior to the beginning of the service at the funeral home.

Joshua Snow

Joshua A. Snow, age 29, of Englewood, Ohio near Dayton, a former resident of Switzerland County, passed away on Tuesday, May 30th, 2017 at Grandview Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born June 4th, 1987 in Madison; and grew up in Switzerland County, graduating from Switzerland County High School in 2006.

Joshua is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughter: Elizabeth Jane Snow; son: Joshua Snow, Jr.; by two step-daughters: Rheann Rosfeld, Mareena McNabb; and by his step-son, Montana McNabb.

He is also survived by his parents: Calvin and Jeanette Snow; by his sister, Michell Bloomfield; by his brother, Shawn Snow; by four nephews; as well as numerous other relatives and many co-workers and friends.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept my faith and remained a good and faithful servant.”

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Joshua’s employer, Te-Co, for their love, care and compassion during this difficult time.

Visitation was held on Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio, 45424; with funeral services following at 3 p.m.

Reva Garrett

Reva L. Garrett, 87, of Shelbyville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, May 20th, 2017 at Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville.

Born February 21st, 1930 in Fairview, she was the daughter of Glen and Opal (Lee) Baatz. She graduated from Vevay High School in 1947.

She married William D. Garrett on August 8th, 1947 and he survives.

Reva lived in the Shelbyville area over 60 years, after moving from Switzerland County. She was a factory worker/lab technician at IPC for several years, retiring in 1973. She had previously worked at Western Electric in Indianapolis until the company closed down.

She was a member of Southern Baptist Church in Metamora, Indiana; and attended Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Smithland. Reva and Bill enjoyed vacationing in Florida where they collected sea shells from the beaches. She also dearly loved her dog, ‘Cricket’.

Other survivors along with her husband include: sons Jerry R. Garrett (wife Beth Ann) of Shelbyville and Stephen A. Garrett (wife Linda) of Freedom, Indiana; daughter Sharon K. Staehler (husband Joseph) of Shelbyville; sister Ramona Miller of Bennington; aunt Myrtle Hildebrand of Yukon, Oklahoma; 10 nephews and 6 nieces.

Reva is also survived by her grandchildren: Jeffrey D. Staehler, Jerry M. Garrett, Jonathon Garrett, Brian Garrett, Keith Garrett, Lorie R. Staehler, and Natalie Gulley; by eight great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 17 step great-grandchildren; and three step great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by three sisters: Olive Green, Mary Etta Helton, Gloria McFadden; by two brothers: Loyd Baatz and Robert Baatz; by one nephew and one niece.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 25th, 2017 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, Shelbyville, Indiana, with Pastor Bryan Trotter officiating. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends were invited to pay their respects to the family on Thursday prior to the beginning of the services at the funeral home.

Janice Walker

Janice Gay “Jan” (Brent) Walker, age 71, of Florence, passed away at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6th, 2017, at her residence.

Jan entered this life on November 9th, 1945, in Stanford, Kentucky, the loving daughter of the late James Thomas and Eldean (Sowers) Brent. She was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she was a 1964 graduate of the Colerain High School.

Jan was united in marriage on March 6th, 1965, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Thomas Wayne Walker, and to this union arrived two daughters: Janet and Crystal to bless their home. Jan and Thomas shared 52 years of marriage together until her death.

Jan was employed as an IT Manager for Atochem, retiring in 2001 after 19 1/2 years of service. She was a former IT Manager for Providence Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, for 15 years. Jan will be remembered for her love of reading, playing candy crush and watching the news. Jan will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.

Jan will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 52 years: Thomas Wayne Walker of Florence; her daughters: Janet Truitt and her husband: Andy of Vevay and Crystal Renee Parham and her husband: Joe of Vevay; her grandchildren: Amber, Justin, Lensi, Joel and Amanda; her sisters: Sheila Harry and her husband: Matt and Patsy Farro and her husband: Mike of Anderson, Ohio; her brother: James Brent and his wife: Louella of Harrison, Ohio; and her several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: James Thomas, Sr. and Eldean (Sowers) Brent; her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Sam and Imogene (Setser) Walker; her sister: Lillian “Tippy” Moore and her brother-in-law: Kenneth Walker.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, June 11th, 2017, at 1 p.m., by Reverend Mike Jones at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana, 47043. Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery.
