Helen Graham

Helen Louise (Swearingen) Graham, age 89, of Vevay, passed away at 4:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16th, 2017, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.

Helen entered this life on April 13th, 1928, in Adams County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Christian and Ella Grace (Ayers) Swearingen. She was raised in Decatur, Ohio and was a 1946 graduate of the West Union High School in West Union, Ohio.

Helen was united in marriage on June 21st, 1952, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Nelson Lindsay “Red” Graham; and to this union arrived three children to bless their home. Helen and Red shared 56 years of marriage together until Red passed away on December 16th, 2008.

In her early years of life, Helen was employed for Cole Bakes Insurance in Vevay. Helen was later employed for Seagram’s Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, retiring in 1993, after 37 years of service. She was a member of the Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church in Vevay, and the Vevay American Legion Post #185 Ladies Auxiliary. Helen enjoyed sewing, working crossword puzzles, socializing with her family and friends and having a glass of wine overlooking the Ohio River.

Helen will be dearly missed by her daughter, Christi Dixon and her husband: David of Henderson, Kentucky; her son, Mark Graham and his wife: Deanna of Vevay; by her grandchildren: Jesse Dixon and his wife: Kate; Neil Dixon and his wife: Meredith; Nathan Graham, and his wife: Taylor; Natalie Dickerson and her husband: Josh; and Evan Graham.

She will also be dearly missed by her great-grandchildren: Tessa Dixon, Arya Dickerson and Nora Dixon; by her brother, Dale Swearingen of Medina, Ohio; her sister, Sandy Ditmer of Hillsboro, Ohio; her sister-in-law, Jean Adkins of Versailles, Indiana; and her several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Christian and Ella Grace (Ayers) Swearingen; by her husband, Nelson Lindsay “Red” Graham, who died on December 16th, 2008; by her son, Brett Lee Graham, who died on February 16th, 2008; and her sister, Bobbie Holiday.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, June 25th, 2017, at 1 p.m., by Reverend Mike Jones at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana, 47043. Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 25th, at the funeral home.

Mary “Kay” Rook

Mrs. Mary Elaine “Kay” (Reid) Rook, age 80, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on June 21, 1936, in West Ines (Kingston), Jamaica, the daughter of the late, Dennis James Reid and Olive Isabell (McLennan) Reid-Barnes. She was raised in Jamaica where she attended school. Kay was united in marriage on June 19, 1955, in White Plains, New York, to James Raymond “Jake” Rook. Kay and Jake shared nearly 59 years of marriage together until Jake passed away on January 29, 2014.

Kay sold tupperware for several years and was later employed as a trimmer for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana, from 1977 to November of 1999. She was employed on the assembly line for Richardson’s Industry in November of 1999. She was a member of the Switzerland Baptist Church in Vevay, Indiana, the Vevay American Legion Post #185 Ladies Auxiliary and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 Ladies Auxiliary. Kay resided in New York from 1951 to 1958 and later moved to the Vevay community where she resided for several years. Kay enjoyed talking and socializing with her family and friends and making macrame chairs. Kay passed away at 10:30 am, Monday, June 19, 2017, at her daughters residence in Milton, Kentucky.

Kay will be deeply missed by her sons: Dennis James Rook of Vevay, IN and Matthew Noel Rook and his wife: Kathy of Vevay, IN; her daughters: Wanda Marie Bickers and her husband: Charlie of Warsaw, KY, Angela May Graves and her husband: Larry of Milton, KY, Mary Elaine Rowlett and her husband: Robert of Milton, KY and Paula Jo Shields of Campbellsburg, KY; her grandchildren: Jason, Christopher, Tyler, Aireal, Michael, Andrew and Joseph; her great-grandchildren: Adrianna, Kenneth and Sebastian; her several step-children, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; her brother: Paul Anthony Reid of Summerfield, FL; her sister: Dorothy Esther Angela Williams of Miami, FL; her sisters-in-law: Helen Marie Nelson of Roswell, New Mexico and Betty Jo Gullion of Carrollton, GA and her several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Dennis James Reid and Olive Isabell (McLennan) Reid-Barnes; her husband: James Raymond “Jake” Rook, died January 29, 2014 and her sister: Beverly Jennifer Joy Hein.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 23, 2017, at 11:00 am, by Rev. Ron Lee and Rev. Howard Wade at the Switzerland Baptist Church, 307 Main Cross, Vevay, Indiana.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.

Friends may call 5:00 pm – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 22 at the Switzerland Baptist Church, 307 Main Cross, Vevay, Indiana.

Alan Wayne Baker

Alan Wayne Baker, 59, of Lawrenceburg, IN, passed away Thursday, June 15th, 2017 at University Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. Alan was born in Ohio County, IN near Aberdeen on March 5, 1958, a son of the late Doris E. (Bradley) and Clarence Baker. He attended high school in Aurora, IN. Alan last worked as a chef at Max & Erma’s in Northern KY. Alan also had worked for Olive Garden for several years and at Pizza Hut.

He was the husband of Emma (Bowling) Baker. They were married in Greendale, IN on April 16, 1977. Alan and Emma were married for 40 years. When his health allowed him, Alan enjoyed going to festivals and listening to music, going bowling and he loved to go camping. The Smokey Mountains was his favorite place. Alan was a beloved husband, brother and special uncle.

Alan is survived by his loving wife Emma Baker of Lawrenceburg, IN; by a sister, Sheila Goff (Clay Whalen), of Cincinnati, OH; by nieces, Miranda Baker, Ashley Adams & Kyla Craig, by nephews, C.J. Baker & Dalton Goff and by great niece, Avriana Collins and by great nephews, Tristan Collins and Liam Craig. Alan was preceded in death by his father Clarence Baker in 2001, by his mother Doris (Bradley) Baker in March of 2017 and by a brother, Jimmy Dale Baker in 2009.

Colton Blake Johnson

On March 3, 2015, an angel was sent from Heaven named Colton Blake Johnson. Colton was in his first surgery six hours after his birth. The surgeon said he would probably not live 24 hours. The strong little angel survived that surgery and several more in his short life. He was a very loving person with one of the brightest personalities I have ever known. He spent most of his life in the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio and kept the nurses and staff on their toe’s with walks and playing with him.

He was very smart for his age and talked so well. His favorite things were the movies, Frozen, How to Train Your Dragon 1 & 2 and Tarzan. He loved his grandma, Patty, his nurse, Becky and his walks outside with Rob. Colton was such a special little angel and every person he came in contact with was touched by him. Colton Blake will be greatly missed and never ever forgotten.

Colton passed away on Saturday June 17, 2017, at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Patricia Ann Purnell, 62, of Mount Holly, New Jersey, formerly of Vevay, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at her residence in Mount Holly, New Jersey.

Mrs. Christine Ellis, 50, of Florence, Indiana died on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Indiana. Funeral arrangements are pending at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay.

Lillian “Carolyn” Widener

Lillian “Carolyn” Widener, 66, of Rising Sun, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. She was born February 21, 1951 in Dayton, Kentucky, daughter of the late Russell and Virgie (Baker) Emery.

Carolyn enjoyed cooking and gardening.  She was a care giver to all.. She worked with her husband at Harold Widener Construction. 

She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Harold Widener; 2 sons, Leonard “Lenny” (Laura) Widener of Lawrenceburg, IN, Kermit “Brubby” (Kim) Widener of East Enterprise, IN; daughter, Annette Widener of Dillsboro, IN; sister, Brenda (Kenneth “Ed”) Drury; sister in law, Sandy Emery; 8 grandchildren, Tasha, Angelia, Cody, John, Devin, Kourtney, Becca, and Riley; her 5 great grandchildren, Jessica, Lacey, Chloe, Logan, and Zavreal; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Virgie Emery; and her brother, Robert “Bobby” Emery.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, June 18, 2017 from 5 pm to 8 pm at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home, Monday, June 19, 2017 at 10:30 am, with Pastor Tim Russell officiating.

Interment will follow in the Greendale Cemetery, Greendale, Indiana.

Edith Marie Jones

Edith Marie Jones, 85, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 1:45 p.m., Monday, June 19th, 2017 at Shady Nook Care Center in Lawrenceburg, IN.

Edith was born in Dillsboro, IN on October 22, 1931, a daughter of the late Eleanor (Setters) and Joseph Cunningham. Edith had 10 brothers and sisters and was the last surviving sibling. She attended Patriot High School in Patriot, IN. Edith worked as a nursing assistant at Shady Nook Care Center for 16 years and also worked at Dillsboro Manor for 11 years. On July 15th, 1950 she married MC Jones who passed away on October 22, 1977. Edith liked growing flowers and working outside. She also enjoyed music and could play the piano and guitar by ear. Visiting with her family and friends is what she loved most.

Edith is survived by a daughter, Judith A. Thayer and husband Roger of Rising Sun, IN; by three sons, Dennis E. Jones and wife Kim of Rising Sun, IN; Jeffrey C. Jones and wife Anita of Aurora, IN and Larry D. Jones and wife Hazel of Greenfield, IN. Edith is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 22nd at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Pastor Jim Jackson officiating. Visitation was scheduled for Wednesday 5-8 p.m. at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at New Liberty Cemetery in East Enterprise, IN. Lucille Weales

Mrs. Lucille Evelyn (Smith) Weales, age 102, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on September 28, 1914, in Jefferson County, Indiana, the youngest of five children born to, Clarence Hubert and Maude (Stewart) Smith, whom preceded her in death. She was raised behind the Brushy Fork Baptist Church in Pleasant, Indiana and attended the Fry Grade School just below Pleasant, Indiana. Lucille was a 1932 graduate of the Central High School and attended the St. Mary’s College of Business in Madison, Indiana.

Lucille met the love of her life, Dale Sullivan Weales through Dale’s brother, Clyde. Lucille and Dale were united in marriage on September 29, 1937 by the Rev. E.C. Kolten Bah at his residence in Lawrenceburg, Indiana and to this union arrived two sons, Rick and Bob and a daughter, Janie to bless their home. Lucille and Dale shared 45 years of marriage together until Dale passed away on February 12, 1982. Lucille enjoyed farming the family farm and was a wonderful homemaker. Lucille was a member of the Riverview Homemaker’s Club in Vevay, Indiana. Lucille held membership since the age of 12 at the Brushy Fork Baptist Church in Pleasant, Indiana, where she was the oldest and longest faithful member. She enjoyed quilting, collecting antiques, working crossword puzzles and reading.

Lucille will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends. Lucille passed away at 8:51 pm, Monday, June 19, 2017, at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Clarence Hubert and Maude (Stewart) Smith; her husband: Dale Sullivan Weales, died February 12, 1982; her great-granddaughter: Nevaeh Grayce Weales; her sisters: Marjorie Scott, Agnes Schmunk and Kay Quitman and her brother: Clair Smith.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 24, 2017, at 1:00 pm, by Pastor Chris Clemans at the Brushy Fork Baptist Church, 12840 Brushy Fork Church Road, Canaan, Indiana 47224.

Interment will follow in the Pleasant Cemetery, Pleasant, Indiana.
