John ‘Jay’ Benzing

  John “Jay” Benzing, age 73, of Patriot, Indiana, died at 3:10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15th, 2018, at his residence.

Barbara Taylor

  Barbara Jean (Davis) Taylor, age 80, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 7:13 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8th, 2018 at Kentuckiana Medical Center in Clarksville, Indiana, due to complications after her heart surgery.

  Barbara was born in Lakeland, Florida on November 8th, 1937, and graduated from high school in Avon Park, Florida in 1957.

  Barbara is survived by her husband, Glenn Eugene Taylor of Vevay; her children: Shirley Borchers of Montana, Budd Cobb of Montana, Eddie Cobb of Florida, Earl Cobb of Indiana and Erik Cobb of North Carolina; her several grandchildren; her several great-grandchildren; her brother, John F. Davis of Palm Harbor, Florida; her sister, Joan C. Brill of Lakeland, Florida; and her several nieces and nephews.

  She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mildred L. (Gibson) Davis and her sister, Grace M. Denny.

  Graveside Services were conducted on Monday, May 14th, 2018, by Eric Cobb, at the Sharpsville Cemetery, East Elm Street Sharpsville, Indiana.

Melody Hardwick

  Melody Maurine (Schraeder) Hardwick, 54, of East Enterprise, passed away at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9th, 2018 at Highpoint Health in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

  Melody was born in Lawrenceburg, Indiana on August 29th, 1963, the daughter of Creola Diane (Pfeifer) Schraeder, of Rising Sun, and the late Richard John Schraeder. She was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1981.

  Melody went on to obtain an associates degree in business and accounting.

  Melody was the wife of Tony Hardwick, who passed away on July 14th, 2015. Melody and Tony were married on March 20th, 1999. Melody and Tony loved to travel. They sold framed exotic butterflies at various trade shows and conventions around the United States. Melody truly had a green thumb and could grow anything. She raised beautiful flowers and plants. Melody also enjoyed reading. Melody’s life revolved around her children and grandchildren who were the center of her universe. Melody was a loving, wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

  Melody is survived by her mother, Creola Diane Schraeder, of Rising Sun; by two daughters, Creola Michelle Chase (Michael), of Vevay and Grace Marie Bright, of Rising Sun; by a son, Nathan Dale Hardwick (Brittany), of Mountain Home, Idaho; by five grandchildren: Sydni, Aylah and Brylea Chase, and Lilyan and Alexander Bright; by four sisters: Belinda Diane Schraeder (Mikel Murray), of Rising Sun; Kathryn Louise Ashley (Glenn), of Richmond, Texas; Judith Creola Riddell (David), of Rising Sun, and Elizabeth Joan McNab (Bill), of Crossville, Tennessee; by a brother, Thomas Wayne Schraeder (Marla), of Greeley, Colorado; and by many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

  A Celebration of Melody’s Life was held on Saturday, May 12th, 2018 at Rising Sun 1st United Church of Christ. Memorial donations may be made to the family, or to Red Wolf Sanctuary.

Dwight Wesley

  Dwight B. Wesley, age 54, of Lake Geneva, Indiana, passed away at 5:32 a.m. on Monday, May 7th, 2018, at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, Kentucky.

  Dwight entered this life on October 21st, 1963, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of the late William V. “Bill” and Rose Marie (Shaw) Wesley. He was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and at the young age of 15 moved to the Switzerland County community, where he attended school.

  Dwight was employed for Townsend Street Company out of Ohio; Perfect Brick Work in Rising Sun; and for Schwan’s in Florence, Kentucky, for 30 years. He enjoyed working on Lake Geneva where he did several renovations for several years. Dwight will be remembered for his love of fishing, boating, riding his motorcycle, bonfires and grilling out with his family and friends.

  Dwight will be deeply missed by his sons: David Allen Machan of Hamilton, Ohio and Michael Dean Wesley of Fairview; by his daughter, Donna Ann Wesley of Ludlow, Kentucky; by his step-sons: Steven Cooper of Madison, Nicholas Murray of Madison, Cory Morgan of Dupont, Indiana, and Dusty Griswold of Madison; by his best friend, Michelle Wesley Cooper of Vevay; his close personal friend, Brenda Day of Hamilton, Ohio; his grandchild and his 11-step-grandchildren; by his sisters: Anna Presley of Patriot, Billie Wesley of Patriot, and Christina Grenat of Vevay; and his several nieces and nephews.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, William V. “Bill” and Rose Marie (Shaw) Wesley; by his son, Kevin William Wesley, who died on July 18th, 2006; and by his grandparents.

  Memorial services were conducted on Friday, May 11th, 2018, by Brother Anthony Wilks at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana, 47043. Friends were invited to call on the family on Friday, May 11th, prior to the beginning of the services at the funeral home.

Hazel Pollitt

  Hazel Marie Pollitt, 79, of Connersville, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon, May 12th, 2018, at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. She had been in failing health for the past year.

  The oldest of two children born to Ernest and Margaret Skirvin Woodruff, Hazel was born in Switzerland County, on December 2nd, 1938.

  On August 5th, 1962, she was married in Lawrenceburg, Indiana to Donald Pollitt, and the couple shared nearly 55 years of marriage until Donald passed away on October 22nd, 2017.

  For many years, Hazel worked at Kopp Turkey Processing in Harrison, Ohio, and for 10 years she was employed at Visteon in Connersville.

  Hazel enjoyed traveling, especially going to Tennessee 20 times a year, Branson, Missouri, Florida, and viewing Niagara Fall from both the New York and Canadian sides. She also enjoyed attending gospel singings.

  She is survived by six children: Nelson Sizemore of Connersville, Indiana, Alvin Woodruff of Connersville, Indiana, Randy (Vicky) Pollitt of Liberty, Indiana, Gerald (Carolyn) Pollitt of Connersville, Indiana, David (Teresa) Pollitt of Morristown, Indiana, and Arthur (Tracy) Pollitt of Connersville, Indiana.

  She is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; by her brother, Ernie Woodruff of Vevay; and several half-brothers and half-sisters.

  Besides her husband, Donald Pollitt, Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; by a daughter, LaDonna Pollitt Fraley; by a great-granddaughter, Alexis Marie Shellburg; and by two half-relatives, Jackie Beach and Mack Woodruff.

  Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 17th, at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home in Connersville. Pastor Chris Lovett will officiate. Burial will follow in Valley Grove Cemetery. Friends were invited to call on the family on Wednesday, May 16th, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fayette County Cancer Fund.

 

 

Frederick Korn

  Frederick Joseph Korn, age 83, of Quercus Grove, Indiana, died at 6:02 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15th, 2018, at his residence.

  Funeral arrangements are pending at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana. Services will be announced in a few weeks.

 

 

Denny Niccum

  Denny Lynn Niccum, 62, of Rising Sun, passed away at 2:50 p.m. on Saturday, May 12th, 2018 at his residence.

  Denny was born in Aberdeen, Indiana on January 29th, 1956, the son of the late Dorothy (Eaglin) and Arthur Niccum. He was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1974.

  Denny was the husband of Helen (Eddy) Niccum. Denny and Helen were married on December 20th, 2015 by Lane Siekman on the Rising Sun riverfront.

  Denny worked as a welder for several years at Batesville Casket Company. Denny loved the outdoors and was a member of the Ohio Valley River Cats and Ohio County Gun Club. He was baptized at the Aurora Church of Christ.

  In addition to his loving wife Helen, Denny is survived by a son: Anthony Niccum, of Rising Sun; by a step daughter: Ashley Love (Brandon), of Kentucky; by a step son: Thomas Zurek, of Kentucky; by grandchildren: Kayla, Kaitlyn, Daniel and Kimberly Ann; and by a brother: Garol Niccum (Linda), of Versailles, Indiana.

  Denny was preceded in death by his parents; by daughters Lisa Marie Niccum and Teneka Niccum Carper; and by a brother, Rolland Niccum.

  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 15th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, with Brother Don Thomason officiating. Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 15th prior to the beginning of the service at the funeral home. Burial was in Rising Sun New Cemetery.

Marian Curry

  Marian Jean Curry, 60, of Batavia, Ohio, passed away at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 13th, 2018 at her residence.

  Marian was born in Milan, Indiana on March 27th, 1958, the daughter of the late Marilyn (Garrod) and Howard Liddell. She was a graduate of William Henry Harrison High School, Class of 1976.

  Marian was the wife of Donald Lynn Curry. Marian and Lynn were married on January 23rd, 1988 at the Methodist Church in Harrison, Ohio.

  She worked as a nuclear waste specialist at Fluor BWTX in Portsmouth, Ohio; and she was a member of the Clough Pike Baptist Church in Batavia, Ohio. She was a former member and Sunday School Teacher at the Rising Sun Nazarene Church. Marian was a lifetime member of the NRA. Marian enjoyed riding her motorcycle and spending time with her family.

  Marian is survived by her husband, Donald Lynn Curry, of Batavia, Ohio; by four daughters: Lora Curry, of Gilbert, Arizona; Megan Kincart (Max), of Burlington, Kentucky; Misty Weiss (David), of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and Nena Curry, of Beechmont, Ohio; by two sons: Johnny Hensley, of Lawrenceburg, Indiana and Joshua Curry, of Newtown, Ohio; by her grandchildren: Briana, Deklynn, Zion, Julian, Kamryn, Elijah, Maddox, Ella and Brogan; by

two sisters: Barbara Acra (Bill), of Harrison, Ohio and Kathy Henry, of Harrison, Ohio; by a brother, Bruce Liddell (Nina), of Scottsdale, Arizona; and by her special pet, ‘Harley’.

  She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, Kenny Liddell.

  Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 17th at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, Indiana, with Chris McBeath officiating. Friends were invited to call on Wednesday, May 16th at the funeral home. Burial will be at Gibson Cemetery in Bright, Indiana.
