Ruby Blackburn

Ruby Frances (Redding) Blackburn, age 89, of Greenwood, Indiana, formerly of Vevay, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17th, 2017, at the Greenwood Meadows in Greenwood, Indiana.

Ruby entered this life on March 13th, 1928, in Paris, Kentucky, the loving daughter of the late Thomas and Katie Lee (Sanders) Watkins. She was raised in Paris and Lexington, Kentucky, where she attended school.

Ruby was united in marriage on January 5th, 1947, in Paris, Kentucky, to Woodrow Lee “Red” Blackburn, and to this union arrived two sons: Windel Lee and Larry Allen; and a daughter: Cindy Ann, to bless their home. Ruby and Woodrow shared over 55 years of marriage together until Woodrow passed away on August 23rd, 2002.

She was a milliner by trade for Hansley Mills in Lexington, Kentucky, for several years. She later moved to Switzerland County in Craig Township in 1966, and was employed for the U.S. Shoe Factory in Vevay, for 30 years. Ruby was a member of the Spring Branch Baptist Church.

Ruby resided the past 9 years in the Greenwood, Indiana community with her son, Larry and his wife, Karen, where she was lovingly cared for. Ruby was a wonderful homemaker and will be remembered for her love of her grandchildren, cooking, sewing and her church.

Ruby will be dearly missed by her son: Larry Allen Blackburn and his wife: Karen of Greenwood, Indiana; by her grandchildren: Joseph Taylor, Jennifer, Regina and Ericka; by her great-grandchildren: Woodrow, Alexandro, Antonio, Adalaido, Ava Marie, Archer, Annestyn, Mason, Miles and Marshall; and by her great-great-granddaughter: Jazmyn Marie.

She is also survived by her brother: John Riley Watkins, Jr. of Florida; her sister: Billie Marking of Florida; and her brother-in-law: Benny Garland of Vevay.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Thomas Redding, who died on August 9th, 1935 and Katie Lee (Sanders) Watkins, who died on August 8th, 2002; by her husband: Woodrow Lee “Red” Blackburn, who died on August 23rd, 2002; her step-father: John “Johnny” Riley Watkins, who died on October 29th, 1993; her son: Windel Lee Blackburn, who died on April 23rd, 1979; her daughter: Cindy Ann Blackburn, who died on March 3rd, 2009; her grandson: Joshua Bleu McFarland, who died on August 16th, 1990; her granddaughter: Katie Alonso-Peralta, who died on August 22nd, 2011; her brothers: Thomas Redding and Earl Clark Watkins; and her sisters: Anna Kathryn Redding, Jean Garland, Ruth Garland and Judy Johnson.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, March 21st, 2017, by Reverend Howard Wade, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana, 47043. Interment followed in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, Madison.

Friends were invited to call on the family on Monday, March 20th, at the funeral home.

Treva Meyers-Ragle

Treva G. Meyers-Ragle, of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 16th, 2017.

She was born on December 21st, 1937 in Knox County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Virgil Raney and Mary E. McCord Raney. She was a member of Hope Baptist Church.

Treva enjoyed yard sales. She was an artist, she enjoyed painting, had a good sense of humor and she was a good cook. She enjoyed crafts, babysitting and she took care of everyone, she was a nurturing person. Treva was an excellent wife, mom and grandma, and she will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her children: Rachel (late Daniel) Lea of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; Paul (Dianna) Meyers of Sparta, Michigan; Dara (Dana) Swanson of Bennington; and Shawn Meyers of Louisville, Kentucky. Also surviving are half-siblings, Esther Maddox and Rex Raney both of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren: Isaac, Aaron and Levi Martin and Caden Meyers; and great-grandchildren: Tristan Martin and Kennedy Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Mary; husbands, Lawrence Meyers and Donald Ragle; and a half brother, Ronnie Raney.

Friends were invited to call on the family on Tuesday, March 21st, from 4-6 p.m. at the Hope Baptist Church, 15593 U.S. 50, Dillsboro Indiana, 47018. Funeral services were then held at the Church beginning at 6 p.m. with Pastor Tom Holt officiating.

Adelia Cyrus

Adelia Mary Louise Honker Cyrus, age 87, of Franklin, Indiana formerly of Vevay and Madison, died on Wednesday, March 15th, 2017, at 6:57 p.m. at the Homeview in Franklin, Indiana.

Adelia entered this life on November 8th, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio. She was the loving daughter of the late Lloyd and Nellie Mae Hall Honker-Burkett. She was raised in Columbus, Ohio and attended school there.

On June 14th, 1945 she was united in marriage to Ted Cyrus in Paintsville, Kentucky. This happy union of 44 years was blessed with five sons and two daughters. The family resided in Vevay for awhile and then in Madison. She worked at Plastic Molding Company in Vevay and then at Myer’s Manufacturing in Madison. They moved to Edinburgh and she worked at the Sewing factory in Franklin for several years. Adelia was a member of the Separate Baptist Church in Edinburgh. She loved sewing, reading her Bible, cooking and raising her family.

Adelia will be missed by her loving sons: Teddy Cyrus of Edinburgh, Indiana; Benny Cyrus and his wife, Diana of Madison; Dennis Cyrus and his wife, Debbie of Brown County, Indiana; and Tony Cyrus of Edinburgh, Indiana; by her loving daughters: Carolyn Cyrus of Edinburgh, Indiana and JoAnn Cyrus Johnson and her husband, Dale of Edinburgh, Indiana; her loving grandchildren: Angela, Candy Jo, Scott, Scott, Christy, Sara, Rex, Amanda, Joey and Alisha; and 13-great grandchildren.

She will also be lovingly missed by her sister-in-law, Berniece Honker of Columbus, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Honker, her mother, Nellie Mae Hall Honker Burkett; her husband of 44 years, Ted Cyrus, who died on August 29th, 1989; her brothers: Johnny, Clyde, and Carlos Honker; her unnamed infant son; and her step-father, Noah Burkett.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, March 19th, 2017, by Pastor Troy Hedges at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment followed in the Springdale Cemetery in downtown Madison.

Friends were invited to call on the family on Sunday prior to the beginning of the service at the funeral home.
