Kenneth Clifton

Kenneth Wayne Clifton, 65, of Rising Sun, passed away at 6:22 p.m. on Monday, December 11th, 2017 at his residence.

Kenneth was born in Fort Hamilton, Ohio, on April 3rd, 1952, the son of the late Helen Frances (Davis) and James William Clifton. He grew up in the Elizabethtown, Ohio community. He worked in the maintenance department for the City of Cleves, Ohio, retiring after over 20 years of service.

Kenneth was a devoted outdoors man and loved to fish and hunt. He also enjoyed gardening and took pride in his flowers and vegetables that he grew.

Kenneth is survived by a daughter: Victoria Fisher (Joe), of Patriot; by two sons: Kenneth James Clifton (Mary Elizabeth), of Cleves, Ohio and Jonathon Leon Clifton (Lisa), of Patriot; by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; by five sisters: Linda Grant, of Corydon, Indiana; Cathy Lewis, of Houston, Texas; Becky Baker, of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; Peggy Carroll, of Carlsbad, New Mexico; and Patricia Clifton, of Junction, Texas; and by a brother, Larry James Clifton, of Junction, Texas.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; by his step mother, Sylvia Dean Carlisle Clifton; by a brother, James Edward Clifton; and by a sister, Mary Elizabeth Clifton.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 15th at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, Indiana, with James Williams officiating. Friends are invited to call Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

George Peters, Jr.

George Walter Peters, Jr. 70, of Milan, Indiana, passed away at 8:29 p.m. on Saturday, December 16th, 2017 at his residence.

George was born in Mariemont, Ohio, on January 4th, 1947, the son of the late Ruth Virginia (Brunner) Vandergriff and George Walter Peters, Sr. He worked as a machinist for G.E., and also for US Drillhead in Cincinnati, Ohio.

George enjoyed watching NASCAR.

George is survived by three daughters: Ruthie Michael, of Toledo, Ohio; Shelly Chidester, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Heather Jedding, of Milan, Indiana; by three sons: Charles Peters, of Cincinnati, Ohio; George Peters III, of Toledo, Ohio; and Andrew Peters, of Milan, Indiana; and by a step daughter, Chastity Baxter, of Milan, Indiana. George is also survived by a sister, Regina Donohue, of Williamsburg, Ohio; and by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Bonnie Armstrong.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 20th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, with Reverend Jim Jenkins officiating. Visitation was held on Wednesday prior to the beginning of the services at the funeral home. Burial was at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Jackie Short

Jackie Kent Short, age 60, of Florence, passed away at 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, December 14th, 2017, at his residence.

Jackie entered this life on December 3rd, 1957 in New Albany, Indiana. He was raised in Charlestown, Indiana. Jackie resided the past three and half years in the Florence community.

Jackie will be deeply missed by his partner in life, Tonia Lynn Allen of Florence; his daughters: Cristal Rodriguez and her husband: Issac of Labelle, Florida; LaVonna Satchwill of Orleans, Indiana; Korina Flannery and her husband: Larry of Orleans, Indiana; and Jacky Edwards of Paoli, Indiana; his grandchildren: Aaron, Leah, Mayah, Zac, Luc, Orlando, Brooklynn, Owen, Tanner, Logan, Kylie, Morgan, Chloe and Olivia; his sister, Jill Taylor of New Albany, Indiana; his brother, Dee Taylor of New Albany, Indiana; and his several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandchildren: Dayton Edwards and Mason Flannery.

No Services are being held at this time. Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay is assisting the family at this difficult time.

Matthew Richards

Matthew Skyler “Matt” Richards, age 22, of Switzerland County, passed away at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16th, 2017, at Thuermer Hollow Road in Ohio County, Indiana.

Matt entered this life on November 2nd, 1995, in Madison, the loving son of, Bruce Shane Richards and Rhonda Renee (White) Scott. He was raised in Switzerland County, where he was a 2014 graduate of the Switzerland County High School.

Matt was a former employee for Heritage Group at North American Stainless in Ghent, Kentucky for six months; Dorman Products in Warsaw, Kentucky for one year; and Arvin Sango in Madison for three months. Matt was currently employed as a technician for Chandler Chevrolet in Madison or the past four months. He was a member of the Brushy Fork Baptist Church.

Matt enjoyed anything that involved mud and getting his hands dirty. He also enjoyed trucks, 4-wheeling, hanging out with his friends and drag racing with his brothers. Matt will be deeply missed by his loving family and abundance of friends.

Matt will be deeply missed by his father and step-mother, Bruce Shane and Crystal Richards of Carrollton, Kentucky; his mother and step-father, Rhonda Renee (White) and Ronald Keith Scott of Ghent, Kentucky; his step-father, Brian Levell of East Enterprise; his brothers and sisters: Kassie Richards of Ghent, Kentucky; Bryan Levell and his wife Hayley of East Enterprise; Justin Levell and his wife Courtney of Rising Sun; Michael Hall, Brett Hall, Gabriella Vaught, Zachary Richards and Shaylynn Richards all of Carrollton, Kentucky; Diana Scott and Alyssa Scott of Eminence, Kentucky; and R.J. Cunningham of Vevay; his nephews: Carter, Ashton and Landin; his grandparents, Barbara Ann (Hammons) Richards of Switzerland County; Wayne and Diana White of East Enterprise; Mary Smith of Carrollton, Kentucky; Regina Scott-Hall of South Williamson, Kentucky; and Ronald Scott of Pendleton, Kentucky; his great-grandmother, Loretta LaVelle of Rising Sun, and his numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Robert Halstead “Bobby” and Juanita Ann (Brown) Richards; and his great-grandparents: Roy and Virginia Richards, Walter LaVelle, Bill and Wanda White and Daisy and Owen Hammons.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 22nd, by Reverend Ron Lee, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Chapel Ridge Cemetery, Switzerland County.

Friends may call 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 21st, at the funeral home.

Dayle Brett

Dayle E. Brett, 70, of Rising Sun, passed away at 12:02 a.m. on Sunday, December 17th, 2017 at his residence.

Dayle was born in Madison on November 17th, 1947, the son of the late Eva Marie (Sample) and Leland Brett. He was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1965.

Dayle was the husband of Tamara Brett. They were married on September 22nd, 1984 in Rising Sun, along the riverfront.

Dayle worked as a machinist at Cincinnati Inc., in Harrison, Ohio, for over 40 years. Dayle was a member of the Rising Sun Church of Christ and a former member of the Rising Sun Post #59 Sons of the American Legion. He was an avid golfer and also coached little league and pony league for several years.

Dayle is survived by three daughters: Debbie McClellan (Larry), of Greendale, Indiana; Regina Bolling (Mark), of Aurora, Indiana; and Tia Doolittle (Bryan), of Greendale, Indiana; by two sons: Gregory Gene Brett, of Kentucky and Lucas Dayle Brett (Trena), of Rising Sun; by grandchildren: Jason Walker, Hayley Reatherford, Kaitlin Bolling, Brett Bolling, Liam Doolittle, Laila Doolittle, Sarah Brett, Noah Brett, Michael Brett, Joshua Brett and Jacob Brett, by step-grandchildren; Torress, Shelvess, Jaquess and Marquess Harmon, and by great grandchildren: Kendyll, Haden, Kyleigh, Parker and Andrew.

Dayle is also survived by five brothers: Larry Brett (Penny), of Rising Sun; Denny Brett (Janet), of Rising Sun; Brad Brett (Andrea), of Cincinnati, Ohio; Gary Brett (Marcia), of Rising Sun; and Steve Brett (Penny), of Rising Sun; and by many nieces, nephews other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 21st, at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, with Brother Greg Matthew officiating. Friends were invited to call on Wednesday, December 20th, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery.

Beulah Herald

Beulah (Smith) Herald, age 77, of Vevay, passed away at 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, December 14th, 2017, at the Swiss Villa Living Center in Vevay.

Beulah entered this life on December 22nd, 1939, in Booneville, Kentucky, the loving daughter of the late Ike and Jalie (Gabbard) Smith. She was raised in Booneville, Kentucky where she attended school.

Beulah was united in marriage to Harvey Herald.

Beulah was a wonderful homemaker and caregiver all of her life. She resided most of her life in the Booneville, Kentucky community; the past seven years in Switzerland County; and in Aurora, Indiana for two years. She was a member of a Baptist Church in Owsley County, Kentucky and Fairview Baptist Church in Switzerland County.

Beulah will be remembered for her love of sewing, reading, her flowers and taking care of the elderly.

Beulah will be missed by her sisters: Myrtle Chandler-Butler of Fairview and Dorothy Leibecke of Aurora, Indiana; and her several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Ike and Jalie (Gabbard) Smith; by her husband, Harvey Herald, who died in 1973; her niece, Tracy Lynn York, who died on August 11th, 2012; and her brothers, Kelly and Willard Smith.

Graveside services were conducted on Monday, December 18th, 2017, by Brother Hobert Byrd at the Cow Creek Cemetery, Booneville, Kentucky.

Nelson McClure

Nelson Wayne McClure, age 68, of Vevay, passed away at 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, December 17th, 2017, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.

Nelson entered this life on June 27th, 1949, in East Enterprise, the son of the late Nelson and Leona (VanTyle) McClure. He attended the Madison High School in Madison.

Nelson was united in marriage on January 31st, 1976, in Vevay, to Sharon Green, and to this union arrived two daughters: Marietta and Ashley to bless their home.

Nelson was employed for Picus in Hanover, Indiana; Browns Implement in Moorefield; Batta in Aurora, Indiana; and F&M MAFCO in Harrison, Ohio. He was a self employed mechanic all of his life. Nelson resided in the Switzerland County and Ohio County communities. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church and attended the Quercus Grove United Methodist Church. Nelson enjoyed trap shooting, hunting and watching NASCAR.

Nelson will be missed by his daughters, Marietta Hon of Pleasant and Ashley Brinson and her husband: Matt of Cross Plains; his grandson, Wyatt Brinson of Cross Plains; his brothers: Bruce McClure and his wife: Karen of Madison; Steve McClure and his wife: Judy of Madison; and Dave McClure and his wife: Shelby of Milton, Kentucky; his sisters: Debbie Vest of Madison and Wanda Aldridge of Scottsburg, Indiana; and his several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Leona (Vantyle) McClure; his son-in-law, Donald Ray “Donnie” Hon, Jr., who died on May 19th, 2014; and his sisters: Mary Hord and Betty Boone.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, December 20th, 2017, by Reverend Mike Barnes at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana, 47043. Interment followed in the Macedonia Cemetery in Moorefield.

Friends were invited to call on the family on Wednesday, December 20th, prior to the beginning of the service at the funeral home.

Dale Shultz

Dale Randall Shultz, 59, of Rising Sun, passed away at 3:40

a.m. on Monday, December 18th, 2017 at his residence.

Dale was born in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, on April 6th, 1958, the

son of the late Barbara Ellen (Strout) and Larry Milton Shultz.

He was a graduate of Floyd Central High School, Class of 1976

and also attended Indiana University, Southeast.

Dale was employed as an insurance agent at the Rising Sun

Branch of Friendship Insurance. Before his employment at

Friendship, Dale was an agent for Farm Bureau Insurance for

over 20 years. Dale was a civic minded person and very involved

in the Rising Sun community. He was former president of Ohio

County Park Board and had a shelter at the walking trails named

after him for his efforts. He was a member of the Rotary Club

(both locally and regionally), and a former Kiwanis Club member.

He was also a faithful member of Pleasant Ridge Church of

Christ.

Dale enjoyed basketball, football, hiking, fishing and gardening.

Dale was a people person and his door at Friendship was

always open to those that needed him. He was a loving husband,

father and proud grandfather of his three grandchildren that he

was blessed with before his passing. Dale will be deeply missed

by his family, coworkers and the whole Ohio County Community.

Dale is survived by his wife, Sheryl Shultz, of Rising Sun; by

two daughters: Stephanie Grasic (Rush), of Denver, Colorado

and Amber Hodge, of Beechmont, Ohio; by two sons: Darren

Shultz (Tricia), of Independence, Kentucky and David Shultz,

of Ross, Ohio; by three grandchildren: Conner and Caleb Shultz

and Norah Grasic; by two sisters, Doris Duckworth (Bob), of

Colorado Springs, Colorado and Brenda Rickard, of New Albany,

Indiana.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; and by brothers

Wayne and Leonard Shultz.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December

22nd at Bethel Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana. Friends are

invited to call Thursday, December 21st, from 5-8 p.m. at Markland

Funeral Home in Rising Sun.
