David ‘Pete’ Purnell
David Eugene “Pete” Purnell, age 66, of Vevay, passed away at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 15th, 2018, at his daughter’s residence in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Pete entered this life on February 19th, 1952, in Switzerland County, the son of the late Eddie B. and Jean Marie (Hall) Purnell. He was raised in Switzerland County, where he was a 1970 graduate of Switzerland County High School.
Pete was inducted into the United States Army on October 22nd, 1970 at Fort Knox, Kentucky and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on July 24th, 1973 at Fort Benjamin in Harrison, Indiana. Pete was then inducted into the United States Army National Guard on May 16th, 1986, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on May 15, 1987.
Pete was employed as a truck driver for various companies for several years. He also farmed on the family farm for several years in Switzerland County. Pete was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396. He will be remembered for his love of fishing, socializing with his family and friends, cooking and tinkering on cars and motorcycles.
Pete will be deeply missed by his children, Sherry Jones and her husband Van of Indianapolis, Indiana, Charles Purnell of Indianapolis, Indiana, Preston Purnell of Florence, Kentucky, Blake Purnell and his companion, Kathie Morling of Florence, Indiana, Destiny Purnell and her companion, Joe Hall of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Justin Purnell and his wife, Vanessa of Florence, Indiana; and by his several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will also be greatly missed by his brother, Eddie Carroll Purnell of Columbus, Indiana; by his sisters: Mary L. Heath and her husband Gary of Madison and Judy L. Ritch and her husband David of Tupelo, Mississippi; and his several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Eddie B. Purnell, who died on March 14th, 2010, and Jean Marie (Hall) Purnell, who died on February 15th, 2008; by his sister, Patricia Ann “Trisha” Purnell, who died on June 18th, 2017; by his sister-in-law, Bonnie Purnell, who died on November 26th, 2015; and his best friend, Rick L. McKenzie, who died on August 1st, 2010.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 20th, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana, 47043. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, December 20th, at 1 p.m., by Reverend Mike Jones at the funeral home.
Interment and full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison.

Marshall Alford, Jr.
Marshall McKinley Alford, Jr., 72, of Moores Hill, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 18th.
Marshall was born and raised in Ohio County, Indiana, and attended Rising Sun High School.
