Christopher Scarber

Christopher Wayne Scarber, 66, of Rising Sun, passed away at 12:27 p.m. on Friday, November 25th, 2016 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

Christopher was born in Milan, Indiana, on July 7th, 1950, the son of the late Jean (Whiteford) and John Scarber.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1971. Chris was honorably discharged after serving on the USS Vulcan. He worked as a truck driver at Mason & Mefford in Madison, Indiana. Chris also worked at Grand Victoria Casino in Security and Coins. Chris was a former member of the Moores Hill Volunteer Fire Department.

Christopher is survived by his wife Susie (Hankins) Scarber of Rising Sun; by two daughters: Jennifer Scarber (Tony) of Milan, Indiana, and Leslie Ballmer (Tyler) of Milan, Indiana; by two sons: Christopher Scarber, Jr. (Cathy) of Versailles, Indiana and Steven Scarber (Monica) of Versailles, Indiana; by a brother: John William Scarber, of Bicknell, Illinois; and by his grandchildren: Rebecca, Katrina, Jacob, Braelyn, Daymein, Lucian, Daniel, Peyton and Axton.

Memorial donations may be made to charity of donor’s choice. Private family services will be held at a later date. Markland Funeral Home of Rising Sun serving the family.

Barbara Ruxton

Barbara Edna Ruxton, 73, of Rising Sun, passed away at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 25th, 2016, at Ridgewood Health Campus in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

Barbara was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on September 8th, 1943, the daughter of the late Thelma (Hickman) and Leonard Lauterbach. Barbara grew up in Cincinnati and was a 1961 graduate of Woodward High School.

She worked in the restaurant management field for several years; and also had worked as a fashion coordinator for a fabric company. She also worked at Lane Siekman’s Law Office, the Post Office and filled in periodically at City Hall.

Barbara was civic minded and very active in her community. She was a member of the Phi Beta Psi Sorority and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was involved with Rising Sun/Ohio County First, the Revolving Loan Fund and the River Days Celebration. Barbara was also a former board member of the Rising Sun Redevelopment Commission and Ohio County Community Foundation.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 32 years, Philip Ruxton of Rising Sun; by two sons: Michael (Jennifer) Willins of Cleveland, Ohio and David (Dianne) Willins of Cleveland, Ohio; by a step daughter: Hilary (Jason) Snyder of Cincinnati, Ohio; by a sister, Sandra (John) Johnson of Clearwater, Florida; by her grandchildren: Jake, Elyse, Joshua and Aaron Willins; by her step grandchildren: John Philip Beauchamp and Colton Snyder; and by nieces Kama Sue, Jessica, Sara and Keely.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 29th at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, with Jim Armour and Lane Siekman officiating. Friends were invited to call on Tuesday prior to the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial was at Rising Sun New Cemetery.
