Norma Barney

Norma Jean Barney, 87, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away at 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24th, 2018 at the Golden Living Center in Indianapolis.

Norma Jean was born in Patriot on March 25th, 1931, the daughter of the late Sadie Mae (Kennedy) and David Taylor Spencer. She grew up in rural Southern Indiana during the Great Depression. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of country life along with her brothers and sisters. The Spencer homestead was located in the Patriot area better known as Egypt Bottoms.

Norma Jean graduated from Moores Hill High School.

Shortly after graduation she married Harland King, Jr., and to this union a daughter was born, Linda Mae. Norma Jean was later married to Winford Dillon “Windy” Wallick and two more children came to bless her life: Paul David and Terri Ann.

Norma Jean worked at Thatcher Glass in Lawrenceburg; the U.S. Shoe Factory in Vevay; and for the canning factory in Rising Sun. She loved to raise a garden. She canned beans, corn, pickles and tomatoes every year. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting and gave things that she made to her family and friends. Above all other things, Norma Jean loved the Lord. She was very active in church and taught Sunday School and helped with Bible School. Norma Jean taught her children to love the Lord as well.

Norma Jean is  survived by her son, Paul David Wallick, of Greenfield, Indiana; by her daughter, Terri Ann Thayer (Rusty), of Ainsworth, Nebraska; by her son-in-law, James Edmond; by her grandchildren: Carolyn Greenwald (David), Jeff Davis (Mindy), Lindsey Kenyeri (Keith), Russell “Rusty” Thayer, Paul Richard Wallick, Elizabeth Wallick and Wendi Wilson (Chris), and by her great- and great great-grandchildren: Josh Ogden (Megan), Tyler Ogden (Brooklyn), Mackenzie Davis (Matthew), Jordan Davis and Wendi Joslin, Dylan, Jeremiah, Elijah, Derek, Kelsey, Jaxon, Zoey, Bradlee, Layla, Lexi, Madison, Kelsey, Cameron and Liam.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by her daughter, Linda Mae Edmond, who passed away on January 21st, 2015; by her husband Windy Wallick, who passed away in 1976; by her brothers: Raymond Spencer, Roy “Buck” Spencer and William Spencer; and by two sisters: Margaret C. Greive and Anna E. Oatman.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 27th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Friends were invited to call  on the family on Friday, October 26th, at the funeral home. Burial was in Rising Sun New Cemetery.

Verna ‘Rosemary’ Miller

Verna “Rosemary” (Meece) Miller, age 80, of Florence, Indiana, passed away at 8:11 p.m. on Sunday, October 28th, 2018, at her residence.

Rosemary entered this life on February 13th, 1938, in Somerset, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Glover Trimble and Dorothy (Ledbetter) Meece. She was raised in Carrollton, Kentucky, where she graduated high school.

Rosemary was united in marriage to George William Washburn; and was later united in marriage on September 2nd, 1990, in Carrollton, Kentucky, to the late Robert Lee Miller. They shared 22 years of marriage together until he passed away on May 23rd, 2012.

She retired from Gallatin County Nursing Home as a qualified medical assistant, after several years of service. She was the former activities director for Green Valley Nursing Home in Carrollton, Kentucky, for five years. Rosemary resided the past 27 years in Florence.

She was a member of the Madison Assembly of God in Madison. Rosemary enjoyed crafts, painting, flowers and spending time with her grandchildren.

Rosemary will be deeply missed by her son, George William Washburn of Carrollton, Kentucky; by her daughters: Alex Fuller and her husband Henry of Vevay, Marie Robertson and her husband James of Milton, Kentucky, and Jeanie Oldham of Florence; her eight grandchildren; her 13 great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandson; her sister, Kathy Anderson of Hanover, Indiana; her brother, Richard Meece of Gold Canyon, Arizona; and her several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glover Trimble and Dorothy (Ledbetter) Meece; by her first husband, George William Washburn, who died on December 5th, 1985; by her second husband, Robert Lee Miller, who died on May 23rd, 2012; by her son, Michael Washburn; her sister, Joyce Washburn; and her brothers: Everett Wayne Meece, Donald Meece and Gary Meece.

No services are being held at this time.
