Eleanor Salyer, 91, of Greenfield, Indiana (formerly of Rising Sun), passed away at 6:55 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9th, 2018, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
Eleanor was born in Whitehouse, Kentucky, on January 12th, 1927, the daughter of the late Carma (Murray) and Morton Wiley. Eleanor grew up in Kentucky and was a graduate of Mead Memorial High School, in Johnson County, Kentucky, Class of 1945.
Eleanor married Billy Salyer on June 1st, 1947 in Whitehouse, Kentucky. Eleanor and Billy were married over 48 years until his passing.
Eleanor formerly worked at Siekman-Stearns Insurance Company in Rising Sun. She also had worked as office manager for a savings and loan bank and was a former telephone operator. Eleanor was a member of Bethel Unity Baptist Church in Rising Sun. Eleanor enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting and quilting.
Eleanor is survived by three daughters: Gwen (Gene) Adams, of Miamisburg, Ohio; Deborah (Dean) Tuggle, of Rising Sun, and Hazel (Larry) Jones, of Greenfield, Indiana; by her grandchildren: Jay Adams, Gina Kremer, Samuel Jones, Lydia Jones, Sabrina Blake, Audra Pelham and Alicia Robinson; and by her great grandchildren; Keegan Smith, Macy Adams, Makenna Smith, Kendall Adams, Abigail Kremer and Hannah Kremer.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Billy B. Salyer in 1995; by her son, Wendell Salyer in 1979; by her infant daughter, Miriam Salyer; by her brothers: Melvin Wiley, Morton Wiley, Jr., Joe Wiley and John Wiley; and by her sisters, Edith Chandler and Anne Martin.
Graveside services were held on Friday, October 12th at the Rising Sun New Cemetery. Friends were invited to call on the family on Thursday, October 11th, at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun.
Memorial donations may be made to Bethel Unity Baptist Church or to the Ohio County Rescue Unit. Cards are available at the funeral home.
Lawrence “Boots” Robinson
Lawrence Gilbert “Boots” Robinson, 79, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 4:50 p.m., Friday, October 12th 2018 at his residence.
Boots was born in Rising Sun, IN on May 14, 1939, a son of the late Harriett Frances (Ball) and Aubrey Anthony Robinson. Following his graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in September of 1958. He worked as a security guard at Seagram’s Distillery, Lawrenceburg, IN. and more recently had worked for the Kroger Company and DHL-Express.
Boots was a member and past commander of the Rising Sun American Legion Post 59 and a life-time member of the Aurora VFW. He was also a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church, Rising Sun. Boots was a soft-spoken lover of antiques, sports, music, fishing and family. While in high school, he enjoyed playing basketball and was also in a band. He and his father worked together painting and designing signs for local businesses. He was always working and he had never met a stranger.
Lawrence is survived by a daughter Kathryn “Kathy” Houston, of Danville, KY; by cousins Horace (Gladys) Harris, Georgia Horton, and Mary Robinson; by grandchildren Cartrail Houston & Matanza Robinson; great grandchildren Jason, Raven, Chaynce, Aaliyah and Trail; nieces Pam Robinson, Slyvia Robinson and Sonya Robinson; nephews Victor Robinson, Tyrone Robinson and Aubrey Robinson, and by many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and by brothers Charles “Skip” Robinson and William “Did” Robinson.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, October 18, at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, with Rev. Calvin Todd officiating. Friends are invited to call Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Cedar Hedge Cemetery in Rising Sun. Mrs. Louann Kern Koehler of Madison, Indiana, Louann entered this life in Madison, Indiana and was the loving daughter of the late James Frank and Mary Charlotte Storie Kern. Louann passed away on Tuesday, October 16th, 2018, at 11:10 a.m. at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Indiana. She was raised in Switzerland County near Moorefield, Indiana. She was a 1960 graduate of Vevay High School and was raised in the Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church. On June 30th, 1962 Louann was united in marriage to James Bernard Koehler at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in downtown Madison. This happy union of 48 years was blessed with sons, Michael James and Marc Christopher and daughters, Suzanne Koehler and Julie Michelle. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Madison Elks Lodge No. 524, Tri-Kappa, card club and supported many community projects. She first was employed as a medical assistant with Dr. Noel S. Graves and then with Mite Federal and Home Federal Bank in Madison as a bank teller. She also enjoyed working at Bula’s in downtown Madison and was a cosmetic assistant for Estee’ Lauder. She loved attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, loved fashion and a great collector.
Louann will be missed by her loving sons, Michael James Koehler and his wife, Penny of Hanover, Indiana, Marc Christopher Koehler and his wife, Lori of Madison, Indiana; her loving daughters, Dr. Suzanne Koehler Bielski and her husband, Dr. Leonard Bielski of Fishers, Indiana, Dr. Julie Michelle Koehler Bowman and her husband, Brad of McCordsville, Indiana; her adoring grandchildren, Ben Bielski, Maggie Bielski, Sarah Bielski, Bailee Koehler, Brad Koehler, Lauren Bowman, Allison Bowman and Amelia Koehler; her brother in law and sister in law, Fred W. Koehler and his wife, Dr. Judy Koehler; her nieces and nephews, Leigh Koehler, Jay Koehler, Greg Koehler and his wife, Donna, Ann Marie Koehler; her great nieces, Morgan and Brooklyn Koehler; several cousins and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, James Frank Kern, died July 14th, 2010, her mother, Mary Charlotte Storie Kern, died July 9th, 2012, her beloved husband of 48 years, James Bernard Koehler, died November 20, 2010th, her father in law and mother in law, Bernard William and Kathryn O. Lowry Koehler, and her grandparents, Henry Lee and Pearl Maude Taylor Kern and Gilbert Ralston and Martha Elizabeth Andrew Storie.
Funeral Mass will be conducted Monday, October 22nd, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., by Father John A. Meyer at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 413 East Second Street in downtown Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery,North Walnut Street in downtown Madison, Indiana.
Friends may visit Sunday from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
The Rosary will be prayed on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre.
