William ‘Buck’ Gould

William David “Buck” Gould, 74, of Rising Sun, passed away at 5:10 a.m. on Friday, October 5th, 2018 at Ridgewood Health Campus in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

Buck was born in Covington, Kentucky on August 27th, 1944, the son of the late Florence (Reece) and William  Gould. He was a graduate of Patriot High School, Class of 1964.

Buck Married Eileen (Liggett) Gould on June 4th, 1965 in Patriot. Buck and Eileen were married over 53 years.

Buck retired from the Aurora Casket Company and also formerly worked at the Alton Box Factory in Aurora, Indiana. He was a member of the Aberdeen United Methodist Church. Buck like spending time outside and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Spending time with his grandchildren is what he loved most.

Buck is survived by his loving wife, Eileen Gould, of Rising Sun; by two daughters: Lisa Coy and husband Jonathan, of Greensburg, Indiana, and Donna Zerkle, of Rising Sun; by a son, Mark Gould and wife Rebecca, of Rising Sun; by his grandchildren: Brett, Alan, Brooke, Katie, Haley, Kurt, Cory and Dominique and by his great grandchildren: Owen, Nora, Benson, Brody and Shae.

He is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Hite and husband David, of Patriot, and Debbie Snyder and husband Gary of Patriot; and by his brother, Joe  Gould, of East Enterprise.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents; by a granddaughter, Brittani; and by a great granddaughter, Olivia.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 9th, at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, with Rev. Roger Parrott officiating. Friends were invited to call on the family on Monday, October 8th, at the funeral home. Burial was at Riverview Cemetery in Aurora, Indiana.

Darwin ‘John’ Thomas III

Darwin Johnson “John” Thomas, III, 70, of Ghent, Kentucky, died on Saturday, October 6th, 2018 at his residence.

He was born on December 24th, 1947 in Shelby County, Kentucky, the son of the late Darwin Johnson Thomas, Jr. and Anna Marie Donovan Thomas of Taylorsville, Kentucky.

He had served his country in the United States Army from 1969-1971, rising to the rank of Sergeant. He later went on to work in the public education for most his life, having most recently served as Superintendent of North Harrison, Indiana, School System.

He had previously worked for the Switzerland County School Corporation in Vevay, serving as Principal and Superintendent; the Cannelton City Schools in Cannelton, Indiana; the Pike County Schools in Petersburg, Indiana; and the North Harrison Community Schools in Ramsey, Indiana.

He was a member of the Ghent Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Scott Thomas of Ghent, Kentucky; by his mother, Anna Marie Donovan Thomas of Taylorsville, Kentucky; by his son, John Ashley Thomas of Taylor Mill, Kentucky; by her two daughters: Leah Michelle Thomas of Petersburg, Virginia, and Elizabeth Marie Wilson of Lexington, Kentucky; by his brother, Ronald Thomas of Taylorsville, Kentucky; by two sisters: Sandy Jewell and Penny Edwards, both of Taylorsville, Kentucky; and by his four grandchildren: Olivia Thomas of Florence, Kentucky, Sarah Ferguson of Lexington, Kentucky, and Mary Wilson and Paul Wilson, both of Lexington, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family on Thursday, October 11th, from 5-8 p.m. at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Avenue, Carrollton, Kentucky, 41008; and on Friday, October 12th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ghent Baptist Church, 205 Ferry Street, Ghent, Kentucky, 41045. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 12th, at 1 p.m. at Ghent Baptist Church.
