Robert ‘Gran’ Mefford
Robert Granville “Gran” Mefford, age 66, of the Perry Park, Kentucky community, passed away peacefully at his home, on Friday, September 17th, 2021.
He was born on November 18th, 1954, in Madison, the son of the late Charles S. and Emma Lou Nevil Mefford.
Gran attended both Campbellsville University and Georgetown College before earning his Masters of Guidance and Counseling degree from the University of Louisville.
He began his more than 30-year career during the 1976-1977 school year at Carroll County Middle School, where he taught and coached middle and high school basketball, baseball, and football. He later transferred to Owen County High School for the 1987-1988 school year, where he served as the guidance counselor, girls golf coach, and boys basketball coach for 14 years.
After retirement he served at the Perry Park Golf Resort for 15 years, becoming the Director of Golf. Most recently, he took up coaching again for the Owen County High School Boys Golf team, of which his grandson was a member.
Gran was a coach and friend to many, and loved listening to 70’s music.
Gran is survived by his wife, June Shouse Mefford; by his sons: Bradley (Dr. Melissa) Mefford and Byron (Becky) Mefford; by his grandchildren: Ira June, Rudy Rae, Malachi Caleb, Judah Byron, and Ezekiel Robert; by his twin brother, Randy Mefford; as well as by a host of extended family and friends.
Friends were invited to call on the family on Tuesday, September 21st, at the McDonald & New Funeral Home in Owenton, Kentucky. Funeral services followed the time of visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 21st.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Owen County Boys Golf Team or Owen County Boys Basketball Team.
