Maria DeWeerdt

  Maria Virginia DeWeerdt, 84, of Rising Sun, passed away at 12:05 p.m. on Saturday, July 9th, 2022 at her residence.

  Maria was born in Huamantla Tlaxcala, Mexico,  on January 11th, 1938, the daughter of the late Maria Leocadia Lopez De Gomez and Juan Manuel Gomez Pardo.

  She married Hendrikus Gerardus “Hank” DeWeerdt on September 10th, 1963. Maria and Hank were married over 34 years until his passing.

  Providing a loving home to her husband and children was something Maria took great pride in. She loved preparing meals and was an excellent cook. Maria was also very artistic and enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, knitting and painting. Maria embraced motherhood and cherished the time she had later in life getting to know her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

  Maria is  survived by her daughter, Virginia Elam, of Rising Sun; by her son, Steve DeWeerdt, of Greenwood, Indiana; by her grandchildren: Keaton Leive, Keelie Rodgers, Haylee DeWeerdt, Elijah Deweerdt, Emily DeWeerdt, and Hannah DeWeerdt; and by her great-grandchildren: Brycen, Tanner and Dawson.

  A memorial service for Maria will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 23rd at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, with Father Daniel Mahan officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Loving Hearts Hospice.

Jerrold ‘Jerry’ Golay

  Jerrold Lynn “Jerry” Golay, age 70, of Vevay, passed away in his wife’s arms at 2:31 p.m. on Thursday, July 14th, 2022, at his home.

  Jerry entered this life on August 6th, 1951 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the son of the late Philip and Violet (Burton) Golay, and was raised in Mooresville, Indiana; where he attended school.

  Jerry owned and operated his flooring business in Indianapolis, Indiana for several years.

  Jerry was united in marriage to Ida Suzanne Miller on July 16th, 2018 in Vevay.

  Jerry resided in the Vevay community since 2007. He was a member of the Switzerland County Historical Society and enjoyed genealogy and working on his family history. Jerry was a descendant of the original families that founded Vevay.

  Jerry enjoyed mushroom hunting, singing and fishing and was a wonderful poet and writer. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him, always and forever.

   Jerry is dearly loved and missed by his wife, Ida Suzanne (Miller) Golay of Vevay; by his brothers: Dwayne, Phil, Lawrence and Gary Golay — all of Indiana; by his several nieces and nephews; and by his best friend, Harold Turner and his wife Laura.

  He was preceded in death by his parents: Philip and Violet (Burton) Golay; by his paternal-grandparents: Elisha Daniel and Susanne (Dufour) Golay; and by his sister, Sharlene Lamb.

  Interment will be held in the Vevay Cemetery at a later date.

  Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay is assisting the family during this difficult time.
