Jennie Brooks

  Jennie Dean Wentworth Brooks, age 90, of Bennington, Indiana near Allensville, died on Wednesday, March 25th, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at her home with her loving family at her side.

  Jennie entered this life on February 19th, 1930 on Vernon Ridge in Switzerland County. She was the loving daughter of the late Joseph Allen and Lydia Ann Callis Wentworth. She was raised on Vernon Ridge and attended the Mt. Zion Church and Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

  On December 21st, 1946, Jennie was united in marriage to Ralph E. Brooks in the Brooksburg parsonage. This happy union of 46 years was blessed with sons: Emerson and Roger and daughters: Rosalin and Wilma. She attended church with her husband at Home Church in Brooksburg.

  Jennie and Ralph settled on their farm in 1952 on Works Road in Ohio County. She enjoyed helping him with the farming, gardening, mowing the lawn, baking, sewing, embroidery work, reading, putting puzzles together, watching the hummingbirds and studying her Bible. Jennie was always the happiest when her family was with her and she loved hosting the annual 4th of July parties.

  In her later years, she enjoyed going to the Olive Branch Baptist Church near Bear Branch. She was a devoted wife, loving mom, grandma, sister and friend.

  Jennie will be missed by her loving daughters: Rosalin “Rosy” Childress and her husband Steve of Madison and Wilma Tschaenn and her husband Rick of Osgood, Indiana; by her loving sons: Emerson Brooks and his wife Sheila of North Vernon, Indiana and Roger Brooks and his wife, Becky of Bennington; and by her loving grandchildren: Anthony Bailey (Amy), David Brooks, Stacy Brooks, Amber Brooks Redicker (Russell), Heather Childress Chism (Kirk), Brook Childress Bailey (Darin), Jared Childress (Nicole), Travis Tschaenn (Krista), Amanda Hobson (T.J.), Ashley Barnes (Ryan), and Jeremiah Smith (Haley).

  She will also be greatly missed by her great grandchildren: Kylee, Lauren, Brooklyn, Emma, Abby, Riley, Evan, Karsyn, Jack, Torrance, Zuzu, Savanah, Blake, Shay, Paige, Tori, Parker, Jack, Charlotte, Chelsea, Calvin (Chasity), Coleton, Clay, Rebekah (Stephen), Lily, Eva, Noah, Luke, RaeLynn, CharLee and Gracie is expected to arrive soon; by her great-great-grandchildren: Seth Michael and Casen expected to arrive soon; by her brother, Clarence Wentworth of New Albany, Indiana; by her brother-in-law, Bob Griswold and his wife, Betty of Bennington; by her sisters-in-law: Patricia Wentworth of Sellersburg, Indiana and Sue Wentworth of Kewanee, Indiana; and by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

  She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Allen Wentworth, who died on September 17th, 1986; by her mother, Lydia Ann Callis Wentworth, who died on February 3rd, 1991; by her beloved husband of 46 years, Ralph E. Brooks, who died on September 8th, 1992; by her brothers: Rev. Melvin Wentworth, who died on December 30th, 1998, J. Eugene Wentworth, who died on May 9th, 2019, Charles Wentworth, who died on July 10th, 1928; by her sisters: Helena “Babe” McKay, who died on May 5th, 1986, Rosemary Griswold, who died on August 14th, 1992, Nelgene Bolton, who died on October 23rd, 1995, and Hilda Meriweather, who died on September 16th, 2013; by her granddaughter, Stacy Brooks, who died on March 19th, 1998; and by her great-grandson, John Asher Barnes, who died on November 19th, 2018.

  Due to local, state, and federal restrictions due to the COVID-19 virus, arrangements are pending at this time.

  Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later day by the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison. Interment will be in the Vevay Cemetery. Charles ‘Chuck’ Ford

  Charles E. “Chuck” Ford, age 85 of Greenfield, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 26th, 2020 at his home with his loving family at his side.

  He was born on July 14th, 1934 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the son of the late Norman and Delma (Stagner) Leaman Ford.

  Chuck served his country in the U.S. Navy, graduating at the top of his class from the Hospital Corps School and earned the National Defense Service Medal prior to his discharge in December of 1954.

  He married Thelma (Eggeman) Little-Ford on December 23rd, 1971. He was a machinist and farmer prior to his retirement in 2004. Many will remember Chuck as a long-time bus driver for Eastern Hancock School Corporation.

  He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, bass fishing, camping, bee keeping and gardening. Above all Chuck was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

  He is survived by his wife, Thelma Ford; by his son, Robert Ford; by his daughters, Christine (Ed) Demaree of Switzerland County, Laura Ann (Rick) Beckley, and Becky (Brandon) Hayes; by his 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; by his cousins: Linda (Dick) Baumer and John (Sheila) Ford; and by his special nephews: Danny (Marie) Ford and Mike (Kathy) Ford.

  He is preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers: L.B. Ford and Harold Ford; by his nephew, David Ford; and by his cousin, Jim Ford.

  Immediate services will be private; however, a Celebration of Chucks life will be held at a later date.

Bruce Hutcherson, Jr.

  Bruce Owen Hutcherson Jr., age 78, of Patriot, passed away at 10:05 a.m. on Saturday, March 28th, 2020, at Highpoint Health in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

  Bruce entered this life on March 6th, 1942 in Louisville Kentucky. He was the son of the late Bruce Hutcherson, Sr. and Lucille (Spillman) Hutcherson. He was raised in Patriot, and was a 1960 graduate of Patriot High School.

  Bruce was a 1965 graduate of Purdue University with a bachelor’s in science and agriculture. He taught science and agriculture at Patriot and Switzerland County High School from 1965-1969.

  Bruce was united in marriage to Jill Anne Asbury on August 20th, 1965 at the Patriot United Methodist Church. Their 55th anniversary would have been on August 20th, 2020. This union was blessed with two children: Kimberly Gail and Joseph Shane.

  Bruce farmed in Posey Township from 1965-2005, where he raised corn, wheat, beans, cattle, and hogs. He retired from large scale farming in 2005. From 2005-2020 he remained active with mowing contracts and assisting friends with ‘wrenching’ on projects. He loved the outdoors and his passions were hunting, fishing, and trap shooting. He had a home target shooting area where he spent a lot of time.

  He tractor pulled for many years and was a National Champion 13 times with his famous “Pig” called Makin’ Bacon Special. He cherished his pulling family from around the world.

  Bruce will be missed by his wife, Jill Anne (Asbury) Hutcherson of Patriot; by his daughter Kim Janssen and her husband Sean of Oregon, Illinois; by his son Joe Hutcherson and his wife Jeanne of Indianapolis, Indiana; by his grandchildren: Cameron and Conner Bowline, Madalyn, Carly, and Bryce Hutcherson and Michael and Courtney Janssen; by his great-grandchildren, Landon and Jaxten; by his sister, Carol Ann Armstrong of Patriot; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

  He was preceded in death by his parents: Bruce Owen Hutcherson, Sr., who died on March 3rd, 1994; and Lucille (Spillman) Hutcherson, who died on November 29th, 2001.

  A celebration of Bruce’s life is planned for later this summer.

Harold Peelman

  Harold Marshall Peelman, age 73, of Vevay, passed away on Sunday, March 29th, 2020, at his residence.

  Harold entered this life on August 20th, 1946 in Milan, Indiana. He was the son of the late Marshall H. “Mike” and Mary Elizabeth (McAlister) Peelman. He was raised in East Enterprise, where he attended school.

  Harold was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Gullion on May 15th, 1971 in Vevay.

  Harold was employed for Vevay Concrete and McAlister Excavating for several years. Harold was a volunteer firefighter for the East Enterprise Volunteer Fire Department and Jeff-Craig Volunteer Fire Department for several years.

  Harold will be missed by his wife, Barbara Jean (Gullion) Peelman of Vevay; by his sons: Harold Leon “HL” Gullion and his wife Bev of Vevay, James Robert Lock of Madison, and Verle Lee Lock of Vevay; by his grandchildren: Michael Harold Gullion of Vevay and Jamie Lee Gullion and his wife Kristie of Vevay; by his great-grandchildren: Samantha and Colton Gullion; by his brothers: Jerry Peelman and his wife Debbie of East Enterprise, Robert M. “Bob” Peelman and his wife Sharon of East Enterprise, and Archie Peelman of East Enterprise; and his several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

  He was preceded in death by his parents: Marshall H. “Mike” and Mary Elizabeth (McAllister) Peelman; and by his brothers: Terry Peelman, who died on February 22nd, 2014 and Jeffery Lynn “Jeff” Peelman, who died on April 24th, 2014.

  Services will be held at a later date.

Donald Scudder

  Donald Wayne Scudder, 70, of Rising Sun, passed away in his sleep early in the morning of March 30th, 2020, at his residence.

  Donald was born in Milan, Indiana, on October 16th, 1949, the son of the late Mary Elizabeth (Bailey) and Ezra “Jack” Scudder.

  Donald worked at Randall-Textron in Vevay or a little while; Holsum Bakery in Fort Wayne, Indiana for 31 years; and Hilltop Basic Resources in Patriot for 17 years. He enjoyed almost four years of retirement. Donald liked gardening, reading, fishing, hunting, napping and spending time with his dog Sadie.

  He was the husband of Barbara Rae (Warner) Scudder. They were married on September 12th, 1968. Donald and Barbara were married over 51 years until his passing.

  They were blessed with five children: Lisa Miller (Ryan Gaylord), Lora Pangborn (Dennis), Cheryl Godwin (Calvin), Donald R. Scudder, Sr. (Taffy) and Sandra Flynn (Gary). They have 20 grandchildren, 6 grandchildren-in-law and 15 great grandchildren with one on the way.

  Donald is also survived by three sisters: Roberta Barton, Evelyn Smith and Donna Mae Edwards; and by three brothers: Harold Scudder, Carroll David Scudder and Richard Scudder.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers: Bud Scudder and Ronald Scudder; and by his infant sister, Leona Scudder.

 Private family services will be held on Thursday, April 2nd at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, with Reverend Jim Jenkins officiating. Burial will be at Vevay Cemetery.

Norma Sebree

  Norma Lynn (Branham) Sebree, age 60, of Madison, passed away at 12:55 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25th, 2020, at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. 

  Norma entered this life on June 4th, 1959 in Jefferson County, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late James “Junior” and Mary Louise (Jenkins) Branham. She was raised in Madison, where she attended high school.

  Norma was united in marriage on November 26th, 2004 in Warsaw, Kentucky, to Carol Sebree. Norma was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed fishing, camping, singing karaoke and spending time with her family. Norma was an avid UK basketball fan and also enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds.

  Norma will be missed by her loving husband, Carol Sebree of Madison; by her children: Savana Lynn Brierly of Madison, Elvis Aaron Kent of Madison, Delmar “Jeremy” Kent of Madison, Julie Ann Sebree of Vevay, and Elvis Sebree of Rockport, Indiana; by her grandchildren: Dalton, Trenton, Maddie, Owen, Katie, Kelsey, Darrian, Hayden, Drake and McKenzie; by her great-granddaughter, Arriana; by her sister, Tammi Blair of Deputy, Indiana; and by her several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

  She was preceded in death by her parents: James “Junior” and Mary Louise (Jenkins) Branham; by her sister, Lisa Ann Scully; and by her brother, Mark Branham.

  Services are on hold per the family’s request due to COVID-19 and the limitations of 10 people max for services. Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery.

Robert ‘Doug’ Walston

  Robert Douglas Walston, 61, of Rising Sun, passed away on Thursday, March 26th, 2020 at Highpoint Health in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

  Doug was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 27th, 1958, the son of Peggy (Sackett) Day, of Dillsboro, Indiana and Selbert W. Walston, of Rising Sun. He was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1976.

  Doug began working part time on Roy Turner’s farm while he was still in school. He continued working for Turner Farms and later Fox Farms, for over 30 years. Doug also worked at the Pierson-Hollowell Company in Lawrenceburg, Indiana for 15 years.

  Doug was the husband of Myra Weber Walston. They were married on February 18th, 1978 at the Rising Sun Nazarene Church by Rev. Donald Padgett. Doug and Myra were married over 42 years until his passing.

  Doug was a faithful Christian and member of Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ and formerly the Rising Sun Church of Christ. Doug was always very active in the church youth groups and love helping young people along their spiritual journey. He stayed in contact and gave inspiration to many of them over the years.

  Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother and will be deeply missed.

  Doug is survived by his wife, Myra Walston, of Rising Sun; by his daughter, Joni Marie Walston, of Rising Sun; by his two sons: Robert Shane Walston (Laura) of Rising Sun and Wesley Jay Walston (Amy) of Rising Sun; by his six grandchildren: Ben, Vada, Cole, Zoey, Madison and Matthew; by his father, Selbert “Seb” Walston of Rising Sun; by his mother, Peggy Day of Dillsboro, Indiana; by his two sisters: Bethany Lynn Chapman (Terry)  of Rising Sun and Rebecca Lee Couch (Timothy) of Austin, Indiana; and by his brother, David Cecil Walston of Dillsboro, Indiana.

  A private family service was held on Monday, March 30th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun with Brother Davon Huss officiating. A public celebration of Doug’s life will be held at a later date.
