Elaine Sue Shannon
Elaine Sue Shannon, 63, of Rising Sun, passed away on Friday, March 20th, 2020 at her residence.
Sue was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 20th, 1956, the daughter of Alberta (Emery) Fish of Rising Sun and the late Guy Robert Fish. She was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1974.
Sue worked in the Interior Department at Aurora Casket Company for 22 years.
Sue married Robert F. Shannon, Jr. on January 1st, 1989 in Greendale, Indiana. Sue and Bob were married over 31 years until her passing.
When they lived in the country, Sue enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and riding their UTV.
Sue is survived by her husband, Robert F. Shannon, Jr., of Rising Sun; by her son, Jeremy Fisk of Patriot; by her granddaughter, Aaliyah Fisk of Rising Sun; by her mother, Alberta Fish of Rising Sun; by her two sisters, Karen Lewis (Todd Zerkle), of Rising Sun and Tina Berkley of Vevay; by her four brothers: Guy Fish (Lois) of Rising Sun; Michael Fish (Stella) of Rising Sun; Jeffery Fish of Rising Sun, and Brian Fish (Connie) of North Vernon, Indiana; and by several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
A private family service was held on Wednesday, March 25th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, with Reverend Jim Jenkins officiating. Burial was at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Carl Wayne Phelps
Carl Wayne Phelps, 76, of Rising Sun, passed away at 09:20 a.m. on Monday, March 16th, 2020 at his residence.
Wayne was born in Somerset, Kentucky on January 26th, 1944, the son of the late Helen Gertrude Randall and Lewis Freeman Phelps. Wayne grew up in the Pulaski County, Kentucky community and attended Shopville High School.
He was the husband of Joyce Whitaker Phelps. They were married on September 16th, 1962 in Jellico, Tennessee. Wayne and Joyce were married over 57 years until his passing.
Wayne worked as a mechanic and supervisor at Avon Products in Springdale, Ohio, retiring after over 30 years of service. Wayne was a faithful Christian and member of Grants Creek Independent Baptist Church. He was church treasurer for 20 years and also served as a Sunday School teacher. Wayne was instrumental in the founding of the Rising Sun Small Business Organization and former proprietor of Angilo’s Pizza.
Wayne loved to farm and be outside. He enjoyed fishing (even though his success rate wasn’t very high). Wayne was also an avid UK basketball fan. Wayne loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wayne was a loving husband, dad and papaw and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and church family.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Joyce Phelps, of Rising Sun; by his daughter, Tonia Minks and husband Britt of Rising Sun; by his son, Tim Phelps and wife Larissa of Rising Sun; by his grandchildren: Nate Minks (Audrey) of Columbus, Indiana, Alyson Minks Barnes (Walter) of Rising Sun, Lucy Phelps and Grant Phelps, of Rising Sun; by his great grandchildren: Britt Minks and Gwendolyn Minks; by his sister, Betty DePrato and husband Richard of Cincinnati, Ohio; and by his sister-in-law, Helen Phelps, of Rising Sun.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers: Orville and Harold Phelps; and by his sister, Clara Mae Super.
A private family visitation was held on Friday, March 20th, with a private services that followed at Grants Creek Independent Baptist Church. Burial was at Rising Sun New Cemetery.

Pamela Jean Gray, 59, of Rising Sun, passed away on Monday, March 16th, 2020 at her residence.
Pamela was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 6th, 1960, the daughter of the late Jean (Shields) and Leonard Belew. Pamela grew up in the Harrison community. Pamela was a homemaker and military wife.
She married Terry Edward Gray on December 26th, 1981. Pamela and Terry were married over 37 years until his passing on April 22nd, 2019.
She enjoyed making jewelry as a hobby.
Pamela is survived by her son, Terry E. Gray, Jr. (Jamee), of Rising Sun; by her grandson, Brandon Chase; by her sister, Christine Purificatl, of Harrison, Ohio; by her two brothers: Jerald Belew, of Rising Sun and Bill Belew, of California.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Markland Funeral Home of Rising Sun is serving the family at this difficult time.
Freida (Hall) Ball, age 71, of Indianapolis, Indiana, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 1:25 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17th, 2020, at her daughter Tonya’s residence in Vevay.
Freida entered this life on March 18th, 1948 in Gary, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late Robert Hall, Sr. and Ruthie Lee (Sims) Hall. Freida was raised in Gary, Indiana where she was a 1966 graduate of Emerson High School.
She was united in marriage to Albert Ball, Jr. until he passed away on August 9th, 1983. This happy union was blessed with four daughters: Lisa, Shawnda, Trina and LaTonya.
Freida was a former employee for Hilton Garden Inn in Concord, California. She was a former housekeeping manager for Lee’s Inn & Suites in Merrillville, Indiana retiring in 2009 after several years of service. She was a member of the Gabriel Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana where she was active on the Mother Board and called themselves the “Silver Saints.”
Freida will be remembered for her love of music, dancing, traveling, cooking and shopping especially when it came to shoes.
Freida will be deeply missed by her daughters: Lisa Yelder and her husband Ronald, Sr. of Brentwood, California, Shawnda Sherlock and her husband Gregory of Phoenix, Arizona, Trina Ball of Indianapolis, Indiana, and LaTonya Brown and her husband John of Vevay; by her grandchildren: Tierra Mays, Tevin Mays, Christopher Yelder, Takara Weatherspoon, Ryann Yelder, Ronald Yelder, Jr. and Raven Yelder; by her great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Mays; by her brother, Kevin White, Sr. of Gary, Indiana; by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Peter and Ann Ball of Detroit, Michigan; by her special niece and nephew, Marquita Ratliff and Donald Williams; by her best friend, Denise Williams; and by her several nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Hall, Sr. and Ruthie Lee (Sims) Hall; by her husband, Albert Ball, Jr., who died on August 9th, 1983; by her brother, Robert Hall, Jr.; and by her sisters: Belinda Williams, Vanessa Hall and Donna Nelson.
Services are postponed due to COVID-19 at the Smith Bizzell & Warner Funeral Home, 4209 Grant Street, Gary, Indiana, 46408. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park, 3815 West 39th Avenue, Hobart, Indiana 46342.
