In honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., National Holiday this Monday, January 21st, the Switzerland County School Corporation is tentatively closed, and there will be no classes held.
Maybe.
Superintendent Mike Jones says that on the corporation’s official calendar, January 21st is listed as “Possible Makeup Day”. This means that the school corporation is planning on taking the holiday off, but if winter weather has caused the corporation to miss one or more days of school prior to January 21st, then students and staff will have school in order to make up the day.
As of today, the corporation has not yet lost any days to snow or weather, so the holiday stands.
The National Weather Service is calling for a slight chance of rain showers today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday), but at this time there is not expected to be any snow or severe weather to the point that school would be canceled.
So here’s the bottom line: If students are in school today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday) – then they are off school this Monday.
If at least one of those days is missed due to weather, then school will be in session on Monday.
Parents and staff will be alerted to any change in the school calendar through the corporation’s “Skylert” computer messaging system.
