New Year’s Run/Walk
A group of residents opened the New Year on Tuesday with a 5K run and walk around Vevay — for health and a good cause. This is the second of the events — the first was on Thanksgiving morning — and are the brainchild of friends Tye Sullivan, Katie Collier, and Amy Combs. The idea is to host a run without timers or placings or trophies, but to simply allow people to get some exercise and enjoy the day. Along with the run, participants are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to a local cause. On New Year’s day, the food was donated to “We Deliver”, a program coordinated by Debbie Allen that is aimed at providing school children will food items that are needed for the weekend when school is not in session. New Year’s morning was a little chilly, but a group of more than 20 braved the elements to take part, either running, walking, or riding a bike. Sullivan said that the events will continue at different holidays throughout the coming year, and everyone is invited to participate.
