New fund fights cancer right here at home

The Switzerland County community was recently surprised to find out that the American Cancer Society is not longer going to host a “Relay for Life” event here.

This created quite a stir of emotions throughout the community – but for some, it seemed like a prime opportunity to take a step in the direction of keeping things local in the future and assist local county cancer patients and their families.

Several members of the community met recently and have organized a new fund through the Community Foundation of Switzerland County called “Keeping Pace.”

The mission of the fund is: “Every step families take, we’re keeping pace.”

This fund is going to be set for residents to donate with confidence that 100-percent of their contributions are spent right here at home to help families throughout Switzerland County who are battling cancer.

The fund will support cancer patients and their families through providing help with gas, food, wigs, support and many other areas, excluding medical bills.

This fund will be exclusive to Switzerland County residents and their families only. There are guidelines laid out in an application that must be filled out by the patient or their family.

Applications will be available to residents at Froggy Radio Station at 213 West Main Street; the Community Foundation of Switzerland County on Ferry Street above Mainsource Bank; and at the Vevay Media Group office at 111 West Market Street.
