The Switzerland County boys varsity track team participated in the Track Sectional at East Central High School last week, and although rainy weather spread the event out over two days, Pacers Brandon Otter and Nathan Hickman both qualified for the regional, which is being held tonight (Thursday) in Connersville.
Nathan Hickman qualified for the regional in three events; winning the 110-meter high hurdles in a time of :16.21; and also finishing second overall in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in a time of :42.30. The senior also qualified in the long jump, finishing third overall with a distance of 19′ 9 1/2″, which was a personal best.
Brandon Otter won the Sectional in the high jump with a sectional record height of 6’6″, which also meets the state standard for the state track meet.
The top four finishers in each event move on to the regional.
Other Pacers who participated in the sectional included:
Clay Meyer, who finished fifth overall in the 3,200-meter run, and in doing so he posted a personal best time of 10:32. Kyle Green was ninth in the high jump; and also ninth in the shot put; and Tray Meyer was ninth in the 3,200-meter run.
As a team, Switzerland County finished seventh in the 14-team sectional; as East Central won, followed by Batesville, Rising Sun, South Dearborn, Greensburg, Franklin County, Switzerland County, North Decatur, Milan, South Ripley, Lawrenceburg, South Decatur, Jac-Cen-Del, and Oldenburg Academy.
“I am very proud of the guys and their performances under adverse weather conditions on Thursday night,” Coach Sean McGarvey said. “The team placed in the top half of the sectional, which they should be very proud of.”
