N.P. 3’s, 23 points not enough against Waldron


Rising Sun sophomore Noah Pflum scored a season high 23 points including 4-for-10 from 3-point range but it wasn’t enough as Waldron rallied to post a 79-69 win over the Shiners on Saturday, January 28th at Rising Sun.

The Shienrs trailed 17-15 after one quarter but moved ahead 34-30 at the half.

Waldron regained momentum and the lead as 6’4″ senior Hank Johnson was 6-for-6 from 3-point range to start the third quarter

and led Waldron to a 58-53 lead headed into the final eight minutes.

Johnson finished with a game high 27 points including 8-for-11 from 3-point range.

Rising Sun had three players in double figures including Brent Turner with 16 points and five rebounds and Nick Koons 14 points and 11 rebounds for his eighth double figure scoring of the season and first double double.

Tristan Brown added nine points with Jason McClellan scored five and Jacob Bovard two. McClellan added six points and three assists.

Angelo Gallegos did not score but had a team high six assists.

Rising Sun was 28-for-63 for 44 percent from the field including 6-for-19 from 3-pojnt range. They had just 12 turnover.

Rising Sun (1-15) returns to Ohio River Valley Conference play tonight (Thursday) at Milan. The Shiners lost 58-56 at Milan in early January.

The Shiner reserves defeated Waldron 60-55.

Three players were in double figures with Wesley Rider scoring 14, Doug Pedraza 13 and Steven Jimenez 10. The Shiners had nine 3-pponters with two each by Jimenez, Pedraza, Rider and Trevor Levi. Jake Bovard had seven points including a 3-pointer. Jake Powell and T.J. Manifold scored four each and Daniel Daugherty two.

Rising Sun jumped out to a 23-6 lead after one quarter and led 37-15 at the half. It was 47-28 after three quarters before the Shiners bench players got into action in the final seven minute stanza.
