‘Music in the Park’ kicks off Sunday

266

Beginning this Sunday, May 2nd, everyone is invited to come to Harris Park in Patriot and enjoy a variety of music on select Sundays for the annual “Music in the Park” series.

Sponsored by the Patriot/Posey Parks and Recreation Board and the Patriot Town Council, “Music in the Park” is free and open to the public. Now in its second year, the event takes place throughout spring, summer and fall. Along with music, music, music, the festivities include entertainment, games, and crafts, promising to be even more enjoyable this season.

Kicking off this year’s event is the “Gallatin County Bluegrass Youth Band”.

This highly acclaimed group performs locally nearly 25 times a year – and as far away as Kawaguchi, Japan. The Bluegrass Youth Club is an extra-curricular activity for Gallatin County students and has helped launch many aspiring song-writers. It is noted that “the kids like to take old hymns or a traditional tune and ‘grass it up.'”

“Our goal is to provide an opportunity for everyone to take a break from our hurried lives and to take a few deep breaths and say ‘aahhhh…that was nice’,” said committee member George Miller.

Guests are invited to bring their lawn chairs to enjoy a day of relaxing entertainment and a tour of historic Patriot located along the scenic Ohio River. Cool drinks, food and crafts will be available for sale. No alcohol please.
